still haven't seen LOTR but I have had it on DVD for 9 years. Aww yeah.
The Green Mile. I can't believe I hadn't seen this movie before, fucking amazing. 10/10
The Hobbit 8/10 My biggest issue with this movie is the pacing in the first half of the film and I feel a lot of it was unnecessary filler material, [sp]meaningless CGI storm giant fight being my biggest gripe[/sp]. It really picks up after this though. Would've been a 9.5 if the first half was as good as the second part. Also people comparing Radagast to Jar-Jar are retards, the only scene where he even remotely act like him is the part where he [sp]pulls that stupid comic relief shit where he pulls that insect out of his mouth[/sp]
The Green Mile. I can't believe I hadn't seen this movie before, fucking amazing. 10/10
it's 3 hours but it's so damn immersive it passes with ease. [editline]12th December 2012[/editline] I think that's why I'm fond of really extensive films. The limit would probably be 4 and a half hours for me.
still haven't seen LOTR but I have had it on DVD for 9 years. Aww yeah.
You're really missing out. But at this point, wait for The Hobbit trilogy to release and watch it all in chronological order.
long movies like There Will be Blood and Green Mile are fucking experiences
The Hobbit - 8.5/10 As a LOTR fan I really loved this. The pacing is a bit slow during the first 45 minutes and the subplot with Radagast is a bit rushed (though we'll probably see more of it in film 2), but other than that it was a thrilling ride.
You're really missing out. But at this point, wait for The Hobbit trilogy to release and watch it all in chronological order.
I might actually do that, therefore you all lose and my experience will be superior. :-)
Those movies After Earth and Oblivion are looking real good. Can someone please recommend me some movies like Apocalypto,After Earth,Prometheus,Avatar,Game of thrones?
Lawless 2012 A few friends saw this and they went on about how good it was, personally I didn't see what all the fuss was about. Prohibition era, southern state, hillbilly setting gives us very little story other than people make booze illegally and cops try to stop them. Gary Oldman totally captured the screen during his short scenes but the rest of the cast and film were just sort of ok. The story is a bit so what and Tom Hardy once again plays a brooding hard man of few words, watch out Tom, you might get typecast. Shia Le'bollox is obviously trying to get into serious acting, don't give up your day job mate. Guy Pierce was great as always but his character gave him freedom to shine. Not bad but nothing special.
I'm gonna go on the record and say that Shia Lebeouf wasn't bad in lawless that said, they could have picked someone else who could have done a much better job
Silver Linings Playbook - 7.5/10 I really liked this, well acted with a decent story. To me it's the perfect date film with a good blend of the romantic and well done comedy.
The Fifth Element - 7/10 Ruby Rhod. HAhaha
The 12 Disasters of Christmas 0/12 My bad-movie-loving friend made me watch this SyFy original. I nearly died.
syfy is an awful channel
i liked the scifi name better v:rolleye:v
syfy is an awful channel
it used to be good
Beasts of the Southern Wild - 7/10 (visually - 10/10) What a disappointment this movie was! The trailer looked really promising and I was really anticipating for it, but it just fell so flat for me. Could not get emotionally invested in the characters at all, it was just all so slow and strange and I really didn't feel anything after. Such a shame, the atmosphere and tone of the whole movie was so great and the visuals were outstanding. The little girl playing Hushpuppy was amazing too, deserves to be nominated for an Oscar I think. Crazy considering she was only five when she auditioned and got the role. Some people are just born to be actors I guess!
The Hobbit: unexpected journey - 8/10 surprisingly even with it being a bit too childish, it was still very enjoyable overall
The Shawshank Redemption 10/10 I've watched it like 4 times in the past but it's just so good that I re-watch it every one in a while
Ted Gave me a quite few laughs throughout, but eh, could've been better 6/10
The Hobbit 9/10 fantastic movie, better than I expected. Didn't feel bloated and had no problem at all with the pace. Oh, and if you have the chance to see it at 48 fps, please do. It makes the visuals so awesome.
Constantine (2005) I remember travelling the arsehole of the earth in southern Mexico and finding a cinema where this was the only film they were showing. Just finished watching it again and its such a missed opportunity at making a great film. Occults, angels, demons and issues of divine sovereignty are the base for the story. The first 3 quarters of the film are a chain of events thats are linked rather scrappy to say the least. Rachael Weisse is terrible but Keanu Reeves I thought pulled it off. The last scenes in the film however are truly masterful where the Devil comes into play. Interesting to see a very young Shea Le'shit as his sidekick, sort of. For anyone wanting a better watch on a similar theme, the film 'Prophesy' with Chris Walken is much better but avoid the sequels obviously.
The Hobbit: 8/10 Solid film, but it feels a bit lacking in heart and the CGI is pretty dodgy at times.
Gina (1975) by Denys Arcand: 8.5/10. Great film, it's basically a french Canadian "Staw Dogs". There's a lot of intense scenes and it's really interesting how there's a mix of a story about a filmmaker trying to talk about a female employee being mistreated in a textile factory. And a story about Gina a stripteaser being mistreated by a group of people. [sp] She's basically gang raped by them [/sp] I would recommend it to anyone that likes that type of film.
Gran Torino 9/10 (almost 10) Finally got to see it. Amazing movie, I understand why so many people liked it.
One, Two, Three (1961) - 8/10 Even though some of the humor is era specific this movie is still hilarious.
Looper - 8.5/10 Well finally got to watch it. Enjoyed it, I thought the ending was great.
i didnt like the hobbit. saw it in hfr/3d, it really took a lot away from the experience. it almost felt cheap, like i was watching the special features on a dvd where they show the actors being filmed on soundstages. the visuals were nice and well put together, but it would've been a better and more cinematic watch in standard def all in all i was bored through most of the running time. i didn't find anything particularly engaging about the narrative, and i'm long past the point where impressive visuals can carry a movie on their own. there's no reason why this needed to be almost 3 hours long, especially with two more movies of the same length to come. maybe fantasy just aint for me anymore
