The Piano Teacher: 8.5/10. Very powerful film with really great acting.
Warrior: fuckinggreat/10
man saw the high frame rate of the hobbit today and all I have to say is, don't bother. Peter Jackson is mistaken. The high frame rate adds absolutely nothing to the film. in fact, it take away a lot, both from the atmosphere of the film and ability of the viewer to tell what the hell is actually going on. [editline]18th December 2012[/editline] I was willing to give it a chance but damn, even in a high budget production the 48fps makes it look cheap as fuck.
no shit
no shit whatever rusty the only things I'd ever seen in 48fps were cheap ass low budget soaps and home videos I was hoping something that had actual money and effort put into it would look better to its credit some (not all) of the cgi looked better in 48fps?? but the cgi elements that sent improved look tons worse poor tradeoff
like i said, it is because peter jackson is a hack fraud
Blade Runner: The Final Cut - That Feel/10 Like all of my favorite movies, it has some problems. The visuals and soundtrack are amazing though and I really love the whole atmosphere and theming of the movie. I like how a lot of things are left ambiguous too.

That first big battle looked a bit fake, true, weapon impacts and all that stuff looked like they were using toys but that's more thanks to the cut than to the framerate. I just wish I could watch 48 without the stupid 3d.
Rusty why are you such a negative critic? Do you like or appreciate anything?
Dude, could you at least acknowledge that the LOTR films are good, but you just didn't find them interesting? Like, I didn't like Red Dead Redemption or Skyrim very much, but I can acknowledge that a lot of hard work went into them, and they ARE good games, but I just couldn't personally get into them.
Skyrim is a terrible game though, just because people put hard work into it doesn't mean it's good.

You guys sure care about some guys opinion a lot, how about you just accept some people don't like movies you like.
You guys sure care about some guys opinion, how about you just accept some people don't like movies you like.
It doesn't appear to be the opinion they care about, but the way Rusty words it. You can't really call Peter Jackson a "hack fraud" without pissing somebody off :\
Can I call James Cameron a hack fraud?
Can I call James Cameron a hack fraud?
I've always liked the idea that people can say anything they want so long as they can back up their assertions. It doesn't even have to be objective evidence; a well-reasoned explanation is good too. Hell, I got a bunch of hate a few pages back because I didn't enjoy Taxi Driver all that much, but then I didn't explain why I didn't like it until a few posts later. Learned my lesson on that one.
Also, here's a new one for me: Frank Darabont's 'The Mist': 8.5/10 Yeah, the acting was hit or miss and the special effects were disappointingly dated for a film from 2007, but I was really pleasantly surprised with how strong of an adaptation this was. The characters felt (reasonably) real, the atmosphere was thick with tension, and it has a whopper of an ending. Also, bonus points to Marcia Gay Harden for her acting and portrayal of Mrs. Carmody. Rarely do I hate a character THAT much. I've heard the B&W version of the film is even stronger, so I'm going to have to give that one a shot when I pick up the blu-ray. EDIT: Whoops, figured that would auto-merge.
Can I call James Cameron a hack fraud?
yes its accurate the only 3 good films he made are 20+ years old (titanic was ok avatar sucked) [editline]19th December 2012[/editline] hes just a greedy cash cow
Rusty why are you such a negative critic? Do you like or appreciate anything?
there's no need to be worked up about it.. I didn't think Batman 3 was great and people rambled on for 3 pages. Let's just say, the people who were disappointed by Prometheus, is how I feel about TDKR. I loved Prometheus, it's grand. I've watched it with Scott's commentary too, and it gives real light to things within the film, more than how it was made. The original Alien was opened up, with symbols behind the Alien actions and technology that I didn't realise at first. Casino Royale 9/10 This reboot has transformed Bond in a believable, funny human being and a professional parkour athlete.

But they are very poorly written and made. [editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
It doesn't appear to be the opinion they care about, but the way Rusty words it. [editline]20th December 2012[/editline] He is just another George Lucas. The better technology gets, and the more control he has over the movie, the worse it is. [editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
Can I call James Cameron a hack fraud?
No because he made Terminator 2 and Aliens [editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
yes its accurate the only 3 good films he made are 20+ years old (titanic was ok avatar sucked) [editline]19th December 2012[/editline] hes just a greedy cash cow
I don't think two bad movies qualifies as being a hack fraud yet [editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
I wouldn't mind his opinion at all if he actually saw the movie.
I've seen LORT. It is very bad and it pains me to watch it and I hated every single minute of it I can't help that I hated it. I have watched it with a very open mind. But I just can't see past all of it's huge flaws and terribly fantasy.
He is just another George Lucas. The better technology gets, and the more control he has over the movie, the worse it is.
American Graffiti was probably his best.
American Graffiti was probably his best.
And it's old as hell. There you go.
I don't think two bad movies qualifies as being a hack fraud yet
4 bad movies you mean, Piranha Part Two: The Spawning and True Lies. Maybe True Lies isn't bad, but I don't think it's amazing or anything.
It has been a while since I saw it but I am pretty sure True Lies is a solid action movie. [editline]20th December 2012[/editline] Something Cameron does really well. Except Avatar.
I think the action in Avatar was an afterthought. Actually I think everything in Avatar was an afterthought.
Rewatched Return of the King. You know what's incredible? The CGI. For that time its fucking impressive. A 2003 film with CGI even better than some modern films.
do what's best and skip quantum of wallace.
too late.
Just saw Die Welle, was pretty good, I started to lose interest about halfway but the end won me back. 4/5
I don't think two bad movies qualifies as being a hack fraud yet
its not just those 2 films. i was his getting them out the way cos theyre way more popular than they deserve. as stated he did piranha ii. terminator 3 is one of the worst films I've ever seen. salvation fucking sucked as well. sanctum was bad. he just produced that but still. im not saying he's a terrible director anyway because hes not (but he's not particularly good) I'm just saying he's a bit of a hack and fucking loves shameless cash. avatar 2 and 3 are in the works and are likely to be as shit as 1 because fuck story people just want to see pretty stuff for 2 and a half hours (I think Cameron is in a similar boat) also terminator 5 and 6. I shouldn't have to day anything on that.
