Act Of Valor
3/10, shit explosions, shit acting, at least the action is half decent.
he's a hack because although he could make good films he doesn't because his bad films get him more money
I literally don't think any of the things in your post are good - not just that I don't like them. But they are very poorly written and made.
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
I don't care, he is a hack fraud. All of his movies except Dead Alive are very bad.
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
He is just another George Lucas. The better technology gets, and the more control he has over the movie, the worse it is.
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
No because he made Terminator 2 and Aliens
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
I don't think two bad movies qualifies as being a hack fraud yet
[editline]20th December 2012[/editline]
I've seen LORT. It is very bad and it pains me to watch it and I hated every single minute of it
I can't help that I hated it. I have watched it with a very open mind. But I just can't see past all of it's huge flaws and terribly fantasy.
LotR is good.
What now?
i. terminator 3 is one of the worst films I've ever seen. salvation fucking sucked as well.
He had nothing to do with either movie.
the hobbit, 5/5, some good shit!
Drive?
9, only because of some of the slower-moving parts.
Stalker was extremely slow, yet not boring at all.
I liked the slower moving parts just fine.
There's a difference between "slow" and "boring", dude.
I guess what I should say is that I'm not sure whether I like the slow-paced scenes.
They're not bad by any means, but all the bits that shined out to me were the amazing action scenes and Bryan Cranston, apart from the opening getaway sequence.
Actually, with some more thought, I think the slow-moving scenes were great. Through all the film Ryan Gosling is a quiet, reserved individual, and the scenes where he's alone reflect that perfectly.
10/10.
Drive is one of those movies I can't find a single problem with.
Same with "Eyes Wide Shut". It takes about an hour before the [sp] masquerade ball [/sp] takes place and the movie starts to pick up, but it holds your interest the entire time. I believe that for 20 solid minutes, the movie takes place in one small room. Two people talk. Nothing else happens. I'm a big fan of dialogue scenes, but 20 minutes is a long time for two people to talk and for nothing else to happen.
And it's still interesting.
Another good example would probably be The Godfather. I don't like it as much as I should, but I'll admit, that opening, while slow, is incredibly engaging.
You should watch Hunger cos it has a 17 minute static shot of a conversation where they're both just sitting and talking and it owns (as does the rest of the movie, fucking amazing film)
Shame is tied with Drive for best film of 2011 imo, Steve McQueen is one of the best directors ever imo and he's only done 2 films. Seriously looking forward to him building up a name as one of the greats.
I saw "Shame" a while ago. Pretty damn good movie, but I still haven't seen "Hunger". I'll check it out.
Hunger is ridiculously slow but awesome. Not many people will like it for lack of "dramatic" moments, but for a prison film.. it's amazing.
Cloud Atlas
6/10
And that's only for effort. The movie is a mess. The material just doesn't work as a movie.
The material just doesn't work as a movie.
that doesn't make sense, the material is the movie.
[editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
oh you meant the book.
Stalker was extremely slow, yet not boring at all.
no it was pretty boring
Looper 7.5/10
I really liked the concept and the acting, but the ending felt really abrupt and left a lot to be desired. Also I feel as if the backstory wasn't explained at all, really. For example how Rainman "came to power" or why he wanted to close all the loops (why not just Joe, in the interest of revenge?). Lastly the "gat men" part of the stories just felt like they plopped in there as an afterthought. Nothing they ever did seemed profound in any way, and they aren't fleshed out either.
Doesn't matter, screw internal logic, the kid is [sp]an allmighty TK user[/sp] who needs explainations when you have your script-deus ex machina.

Revenge for what? [sp]Joe saved him and his mother, what the hell would he get revenge for? And how he came to power? Did you somehow miss the part where he's a really powerful TK user? That's how he came to power.[/sp]
use spoiler tags, morons.

[sp]Revenge for the older Joe killing his mom so he could try to get a shot off at him. The younger Joe just stood by. Then young Joe killed himself to prevent his older self killing Cid's mom meaning that Cid would grow up with his mother and become good - not the evil Rainman guy he would've become on his own.[/sp]
God time travel movies are annoying to talk about

[sp]But he didn't shoot Cid's mom, that's why young Joe shot himself, Cid and his mom are both alive[/sp]

thats not even close to being the definition of deus ex machina
it explained what was necessary and nothing more

thats like saying the stormtroopers in star wars aren't fleshed out theyre just dudes hunting joe down for the bad guy.
what the fuck kind of issue does this even present.
[editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
every problem I've ever heard people have with looper are dumb complaints
its literally never not a dumb complaint
Fight Club
9.5/10
I love Fight Club, It's got one of the best twists but it's not random, there's a lead up. One of my favorite movies ever
The Dark Knight Rises - still my favourite movie. 10/10
its not just those 2 films. i was his getting them out the way cos theyre way more popular than they deserve. as stated he did piranha ii. terminator 3 is one of the worst films I've ever seen. salvation fucking sucked as well. sanctum was bad.
also terminator 5 and 6. I shouldn't have to day anything on that.
whaaaat
if he didn't direct them then how can you blame him for them at all
Uhhh yeah Cameron literally had no part in Terminator 3 and 4 and his name is only attached because it's his series, and he was one of 9 people that helped produce Sanctum so blaming him for that is a bit silly. Piranha 2 was his first film ever (not counting a short) and the producers ripped it away from him before he could finish and also do the editing for it, so I don't think it's really fair to blame him for that, either.
Saw "The Score"
now this is a heist film...
makes Mission Impossible seem like postal's ass.
Premium Rush.
7/10 cus I love riding in the city and the acting was great.
The Hobbit
8/10
The Hobbit: 6/10.
There's a lot of action scenes but very little to be found plot-wise.
There's literally no character development for most of the dwarves and that's really disappointing.
It's still really fun to watch, but there's a lot of filler action sequences.
