It wasn't that good.
Tora! Tora! Tora! - 8/10
Shinboru - 8/10
Rocky 4 - 7/10, I love cheesy 80's soundtracks and scene transitions.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, 9/10

Overall, a decent beginning for the trilogy

Cloud Atlas
5/10
Ripe with bad acting, bad dialogue, and even worse accents, Cloud Atlas just leaves you wondering 'why'. It cobbles together (very poorly) a string of inter-related stories (or so it would like you to think) from different timelines, that each on their own may have been an above average film, but together form a poorly constructed narrative mess that is neither visually pleasing nor emotionally satisfying. Basically it's just messy as hell, painting it's own, strange take on reality. It comes off as preachy as well as completely wanky.
And all the cutting around leaves you unable to form any attachments to any characters as it gives them no time to be fleshed out. It has a handful of cool scenes and interesting ideas. But the movie as a whole delivers them very awkwardly. At 3 hours long, it definitely feels it's length. And ultimately, it means nothing. Would not recommend.
nice, this means i'll love it.
thanks for the rec

It was a convoluted mess of emotions resulting from trying to achieve too much in one movie.

like batman 3.
okay that was harsh. :-)
MOON
8/10
It had a nice atmosphere overall () and the plot twist was overwhelming.
I felt bad after watching Moon, cause you really sympathize with the character. Sam Rockwell is an amazing actor. His part in The Green Mile was great.
The Hobbit - 7.8/10
Ice Age: Continental Drift - 4/10

Yes we know, you don't have to bring up every time you post in this thread.
It's like TDKR raped your sister or something.
The Amazing Spider-Man - 7.5/10
It's all right, but not as good as good as the original. The acting was pretty good, and I was very happy with the casting choices (it was good to finally see the Lizard as a villain), but I just find it very lacking in both story telling and character development. It's by no means a bad film, but I just think everything this film does, the original Spider-Man does better.

You'll love it because it's disjointed and has appalling performances?

dude, you called it preachy and strange.
that's something i've never seen you say, therefore it's got to be something that's genuinely intriguing for me at least. :-)

Django Unchained: 8.5/10, really cool movie, very thrilling and brutal at times.

I'm pretty sure I said that about Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line (terrence malick is also a hack)
How to Train Your Dragon
Really liked it, 8/10

Shit it's already out? Agh gotta hit the cinema this weekend.
Cabin in the Woods: 9.4/10
So rare is a movie that, if you come at it fresh, can absolutely demolish your expectations and make you feel like a fool for doubting it. One of the more clever moments in movie history.

wow...
I accepted you calling him pretentious but now you're being a bod.
his movies are bad the only good thing about the thin red line is the zimmer score and even then i hate to say it but Shame did a better version of it's best song
Malick's way of making movies detach from the need to have strict dramatic plots.
he proved this with Thin Red Line, it's not for everyone just like how Wes Anderson's films won't be for everyone. I'd rather watch that than Saving Private Ryan, I'm not kidding.
You've got to at least liked Badlands, that was pretty bitesize compared to the rest. I need to see that one again.
Donnie Darko
8/10
I really love this movie so much, it's unique and toys with you. It's a riddle that keeps you excited during the whole movie. The characters are so interesting and engaging, the actors play so well. Jake does a great job at depicting a young teenager who is troubled by mental illnesses and drawn into this adventure. The soundtrack is also so ace, nothing beats those 80s songs, they are just so fitting.
The only thing I really dislike is that the viewer is left throughout the dark, there are really a lot of loose ends and unexplained things. Like the obese girl that loves Donnie and many others. But if you do some extensive research it makes even more sense, I read some passages that were in the "philosophy of time travel" which explains a lot of these phenomens. Once you know what it is all about the movie gets even better, you notice a lot of subtle clues and dialogues that hint towards the story of Donnie.
All in all it's a great experience, although it could have had more explanations or hints. Without research it's hard to make a picture of the movie.
theres lots of loose ends and unexplained things because the guy who wrote it literally cannot write for shit and doesn't know how to do it, Donnie Darko was a fluke in that it was weird anyway so it got away with making no sense but yeah he sucks. Donnie Darko's great tho.
Dead Man's Shoes - 9/10 2nd time
just had to watch it again, its really one of the most memorable and touching movies ive ever seen.
recommended to everyone, especially if you love the dark gritty england type movies or revenge movies
or even just plain good acting

TOO GOD DAMNED FAR.

Yeah, it's a bit obscure. The movie is great, but it could have been a masterpiece if they presented the plot in a more sensible way. I still like the atmosphere and great actors, also the camerawork is pretty good.
Although I heard that some dvd/blueray editions have a bonus disc with additional explanations of the plot, although a movie should not require that in order to understand the plot. It should be melted together with the actual movie. If they would make the different scenes more coherent it would have been a lot better.
Although the lack of explanations leaves a lot open for discussions and theories, which I really like about movies.

Well everything was explained outside of the movie, which I think is kind of cool but I suppose could be seen as a flaw.
There was a flash website from the creators of the film, donniedarkofilm.com. Was just taken down maybe a year or two ago. It had loads of passages from the book in the film, "The Philosophy of Time Travel", which pretty much explained everything. I'm sure you can still find those somewhere though. It also had tons of cool shit like information on what happened to the characters after the film.
If they had integrated excerpts from "The Philosophy of Time Travel" into the movie the plot would have made sense(and the movie would have been better). It's impossible to figure out the plot without first reading the passages from the book.
