this movie was so good i give it a b/4 !!! [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline] acondensedsentenceinsteadofaratingisneverfunny/10
sorry rusty forgive me I was just excited
2001: A Space Odyssey. 4/10. To be fair, I only saw this movie because I heard it was good and I thought the whole movie was about HAL, a plot line I thought was interesting. Boy, was I wrong. I made it to the middle of part 4 (about 2.5 hours in) and couldn't watch anymore. There were a bunch of cool special effects, especially when you consider it was made in 1968, but that was really it. Part 3 was, in my opinion, the only part with something resembling a cohesive plot line. Maybe there's something at the very end that ties it all together, but I just didn't care about anything anymore by that point. The characters weren't that interesting, the sequences in space/travel were cool, but took WAY too long, and by the time the different colored landscapes started rolling by, I just had no idea what was going on anymore. Maybe I was too tired/in the wrong mindset to watch this movie, but I ended up leaving before it finished because there was no plot line I wanted to see resolved and the last twenty minutes of the movie that I saw were just fly-bys of cool landscapes with odd colors. I genuinely liked the space bits especially the whole "silence except for breathing" bit, but that was really it. I can see some cool stylistic choices, but again, it seemed like it broke down towards the end.

damn ur gonna get flamed but really it's def not your traditional film narrative so you have to judge it differently.
Insidious I actually like how it differs from some of the scary movies I've seen in the past, but on pretty meaningless stuff, and although they make me happy and add to the movie in one way or another, they don't make it that much better. I'd say the scares are pretty good, but I get scared at anything, so I'm not sure if I'm a good judge on that. It starts out really slow, but catches on (kind of) later, and has some pretty interesting concepts, but I think the end is just not intense (or good) enough for this kind of movie, and it's just kind of disappointing, though I'd rather see this than many of the B movies I've seen in my life.
RED is a bad movie anyway
For what it is it is a pretty good movie. It's an action movie with an old, good cast. [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] Being John Malkovich I give it 4 out of 5 handheld blenders. It wasn't the comedy I expected. I found it rather tragic. But despite that and the fact of its weird arc of suspense, it was a decent enough movie.
Dances with Wolves, Extended Cut 86/100 Beautifully filmed, great acting and script. One of the few things I did not like was the voice-over monologues from Costner; they felt strained and out of place. There was also some other acting from Costner and McDonell (Stands With A Fist) that felt the same, but I guess they are both hard parts to act. Regardless of that, a great movie. I particularly liked the photography in this movie more than anything else. I was surprised to find out it was so well shot :)
one damn good film to watch in HD. i really liked the 90s western movie revival. [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline]
Maybe I was too tired.
can't stress it enough, if you're tired, don't watch long movies.... ever.
The Shawshank Redemption 8.5/10 My buddy and I wanted to check it out because it's #1 on the IMDB top 250. I don't agree it's "the best movie ever" but a great movie nonetheless.

saw Casino while drinking scotch whiskey. It's fair to say the movie made less sense the more I drank and then I was finally out of it by the end. Can't even remember what happened. Won't be doing that again. :v: [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
If I am even a little tired I wont watch a long movie, ever.
drinking lots of water helps tbh.
If I am even a little tired I wont watch a long movie, ever.
heh, I decided to watch it immediately after waking up so I could have some time to do it. Otherwise it tends to be too late or I'll be just too tired. [editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
one damn good film to watch in HD. Some really nice scenes there too.
Life Of Pi - 9/10 Very touching and visually dazzling. Only thing I thought let it down was there were one or two sequences where I felt the visuals strayed into show-off territory. Regardless I really enjoyed it.
The Blues Brothers 8.5/10 one of the best musicals(?) out there. Fucking Illinois Nazis
Junior 3/10 A movie about Arnold Schwarzenegger getting pregnant? The concept sounds funny, especially when you throw Danny DeVito in there, but the execution is bad, the jokes are worse, and the movie is utterly disappointing.
Zatoichi - 8/10 About a blind swordsman, really great storyline, fighting in it seems very fluid, and all around fun to watch.

I've watched a few movies recently: Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey = 8.5/10 - One of my most favorite childhood movies. Paul Blart: Mall Cop = 5.5/10 - It was...okay; nothing special. Hop = 3/10 - The script was odd and the story could've been executed better. Ben-Hur = 9/10 - I remember watching this in 7th grade as part as a Greece/Rome history lesson. Great film.
And, like I said I would, I watched Goodfellas! Great fuckin' movie. Amazing performance from the lead three, soundtrack chock full of music I love (I swear, like half of the soundtrack was in Mafia II - which isn't really surprising seeing how much of an inspiration the movie was for both Mafia games), and I liked the story, too. The sort of happy ending was a very pleasant surprise as well. Overall I'd give it a 9.5/10 - can't find anything to complain about, but I'm not sure I can give it a 10/10 :v: By the way, guys, what do you think I should watch next? I've been thinking about Casino, heard it was good.
shut up and play the hits - 9/10 probably one of the best live dvds I've ever seen, made me tear up. Beautifully produced, and you get a little like 3 second shot of Donald Glover in the crowd which is great. James Murphy is an interesting guy, he's like the old guard of the hipster indie music scene, disillusioned but still drawn towards these people and this music.
Beasts of the Southern Wild 87/100 Simply beautiful. Loved it.
2001: A Space Odyssey. 4/10.
i like how this is one of the few places I've ever seen on the internet where you can honestly rank 2001 and not get lynched over it
i like how this is one of the few places I've ever seen on the internet where you can honestly rank 2001 and not get lynched over it
it's one of those films where it's clearly not for everyone. whoever doesn't get that is a fool. Then again, I get david lynched whenever I mention batman 3. "Too hipster" to worship the consensus.
batman 3
just let go lmao
Zatoichi - 8/10 About a blind swordsman, really great storyline, fighting in it seems very fluid, and all around fun to watch.
the black and white original from 62 or the colored one from the 80s?
the black and white original from 62 or the colored one from the 80s?
Colored one.
I'm looking forward to "The Sessions" I see it working as a indie-esque movie, sort of like Intouchables was so I hope the Hollywood productio doesn't fuck it up: (If this is the wrong thread someone please redirect me to the "upcoming movies" thread, I couldn't find one)
I don't think there is an upcoming movies thread, but probably shouldn't post that here regardless.

Shutter Island 7/10 This is the second time that I watched it and I lowered my score, somehow I feel like the movie is not that superb as it was before. I noticed that some of the acting is really not that great and that the dialogue has some weak spots, some characters are really boring. Also the story is a bit mixed up, which is the point though because it's all a mental fabrication, but still they could have done it in a more organized and clear way. Still it is a great movie, I really like the end, where the whole story unfolds.
