the fact that she wasn't a shitty romance object used to pad out the script made me so happy
Dredd does not romance.
the Dark Judges got me interested alot after reading about it on wiki
really hope for a sequel
IIRC they'd make a sequel if the first earned $50 million [sp]it didn't[/sp]
Moneyball - 8.5/10
Solid movie about a sport I don't give two fucks about.
[editline]3rd January 2013[/editline]
Also I watched Prometheus again, and I think I really don't like this movie, I'm bumping the score down to 6/10 for its immense amount of bullshit.
Commando - 10/10
Greatest film ever made.
Psycho (1998 remake) - 5/10
Amazing how what is effectively a shot for shot remake of a fantastic movie falls so short of the original.
Match Point 8.5/10
Great movie about infidelty and jealousy between spoilt upperclass young adults in an unrealistically utopic London. The themes it explores have real and actual importance in the events, unlike many films these days. I still find most of the dialogue in Allen's movies to be a wee unrealistic, but hey, it's his style.
and Scarlet Johansson is hot, so plus points for that.

Oh man, I hope the DVD sales help it.
The director wants to do a trilogy that involves the Dark Judges.
The Breakfast Club - 8.5/10
finally got around to watching it, good stuff. just hoped that Allison (the basket-case) was a bit fleshed out more (and the teacher too, I guess). but all around a flick worth watching!
Prometheus - 8/10
It's the prequel to Alien. It really just feels like the prequel to Alien. I don't really understand why people got so mad when it came out. Why do they feel so entitled to answers? Was it because of the trailers or something?
because the movie made no sense
because the movie made no sense
It made sense to me? The black guy basically explains the whole plot in the middle of the movie.

lol
go watch the redlettermedia video for Prometheus and come back to me with answers that make sense
if none of those questions occured to you in the first place you might actually be a vegetable

I worded my post wrong I guess. There were a few unanswered questions for me too, like [sp]I think the very beginning part where the engineer falls into the water was supposed to show how their weapon to kill the humans backfired?[/sp] I don't understand what was going on there. I guess what I was trying to say was that in a horror movie like that I think they leave a lot of stuff out on purpose. It it didn't really affect me at all.
Also I watch all of RLM's stuff. Thanks for calling me a vegetable.

Ooooh, okay. So you didn't understand the movie even slightly. Not one iota.
who was an actually good character who wasn't useless holy fuck! !
I don't know about that...
I was screaming at the fucking screen when [sp]that one dude they arrested in the beginning pounced her at the elevator, and got away. I mean, wasn't she supposed to be psychic...? In a later scene she knows that woman judge isn't a real judge, so I dunno. Seems like she should've seen the guy coming.[/sp]
oh wow, rusty is absolutely right.
[sp]the beginning of the film was showing the process in which the engineers use to create life on other planets. AKA, it's how we were made.[/sp]
if the super evolutiony music didn't give it away, then may god have mercy on your soul.
Let's all jump on someone because he explained in two posts how he is confused by one of the most senseless movies of 2012 maybe that'll make us feel better about how we geniuses understood at least a bit.
Even better, lets tell him he didn't understand anything at all WITHOUT explaining where he was wrong. Fuck constructive discssions, right?
(This was sarcasm)
Yeah I didn't understand the beginning either, I too thought it was some kind of killing thing that backfired.
because the movie made no sense
"she didn't turn left"
"he didn't get scared"
"he shouldn't have been lost"
then an excuse to throw in "dialogue" when it was actually pretty good.
Rather than going into actual details like redlettermedia did, such as ambiguity to such a big scale, the moaning that goes on here is laughable.

it has a vague feel of his physical property to manipulate DNA, that's what it looked like in the water.
must be one person who listened to the commentary.

buttmadness is good, however it never helps.
Ok, I'm sorry. Could've worded it better and more calm.

huge plot things: why did they send completely untrained randoms on such an important space journey? why were half of them not even briefed before until they had already signed up? if so far all signs point to the engineers wanting to murder all humans, why did noomi rapace want to go to their home planet for answers? it seems kind of like suicide. if this is not the same planet as lv426, then how did the alien get to lv426? did it jump there? if that's not the same species of alien, if it didn't evolve into the xeno's we know, did an almost identical series of events happen on lv426? why is there an almost identically crashed ship on lv426? why did the engineers tell old civilisations about the location of the planet with a star map, if the planet is just a weapons research base? if weyland was so afraid of dying, why did he walk right up to the huge alien? shouldn't he just have sent people to find out what it knows and stayed about the ship, just in case it was hostile? why did charlize theron have a male only medical thing in her quarters? was it for her father? if so, why was it there? she had control over what was in her own room. and it seems like she doesn't care about her own father's survival. how come none of the female members of the ship were concerned there were no medical bays for them?
literally any thought into the movies plot completely tears it apart.
[editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
i dare you to refute any of those plot breaking points, with something that even slightly makes sense
if so far all signs point to the engineers wanting to murder all humans, why did noomi rapace want to go to their home planet for answers? it seems kind of like suicide.
I don't think this is anything strange. It's understandable to want to know why a alien race created and then wished to destroy you. Wasn't it super far to earth too? Making a roundabout trip there less attractive.

It's understandable to want to know why they created you, but in all likelihood going there won't provide answers - just instantaneous death. Nobody would do that unless they were completely insane and had a death wish. If I had to choose between not knowing answers, and very likely death, I choose not knowing. Any sane person would. But she just fucking risks everything to go to a planet that for all she knows, and in accordance to all she has experienced, is completely hostile toward all humans.
Not a very good plan.
Summarized: While "Drop into the action" story concepts are very exciting and awesome(Alien 1), tacking on some prequel is very difficult.
Can anybody think of series with good prequels?
Kung Fu Hustle - 9/10, of course. Biggest damn secret I've been missing out on; and slapstick so tightly crafted it twangs.

indiana jones and the temple of doom :v:
oh god are we back to the prometheus debate again?
By the way when I said I hadn't seen any good decent blu-ray copies I meant to say that I wasn't sure... but now I'm sure, definitely.
Speaking of blu-ray, Lawrence of Arabia (1962) looks fucking amazing. The colors are so vivid. (And the movie is pretty good too.)

I like how David took on the mannerism of Peter O'Toole after watching Lawrence of Arabia

i have a friend who loves it purely because he loved the comic and frank miller in general
he knows that it's absolutely terrible.
