Les Miserables is an easy 8.5 out of 10. I hate musicals and only went after my girlfriend kept pestering, but it blew my expectations. The music, acting and dynamic was excellent. There are some immensely boring parts in the middle but it quickly picks up back to its normal pace. Don't let the fact its a musical put you off from watching it, its great.
I just watched Warrior oh my god, it's a 9.5 and MAYBE even a 10 for me, one of the most touching movies I've ever seen, alongside really good production and some amazing fight sequences, god I'm gonna be hard pressed to find a better film.
Little late but Moonrise Kingdom 9/10
Dredd 3D 8/10, would watch again.
Dredd 3D 8/10, would watch again.
Most underrated movie of 2012. I am extremely disappointed at how hard it failed at the box office, and how we will most likely never see a sequel.
Indie Game: The Movie 10/10
Most underrated movie of 2012. I am extremely disappointed at how hard it failed at the box office, and how we will most likely never see a sequel.
Yeah, a damn shame. :(
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist - 11/5 It was alright.
I bought that at a video store bargain-bin the other day, but I feel like I need at least one weird friend to watch it with.
Gangster Squad- 6/10 They combined Lethal Weapon and LA Confidential into this 2hr long thing. Seriously there's this guy (Jack Whalen played by Sullivan Stapleton) whose hair is done in the same way as Jack Vincennes(Kevin Spacey) in LA Confidential. The ending fist-fight is like straight out of Lethal Weapon or something. [sp] Mickey actually got arrested twice for Tax Evasion not murder[/sp] Don't go in with high-expectations
Don't go in with high-expectations
thats usually a sign for "just don't go period"
I liked Gangster squad 7/10 film imo, what it lacked in substance is made up for in style and entertainment value.
Jack Reacher: 7.5/10 Not a great movie, but still enjoyable. The twists were predictable and the story was pretty average but the acting was solid and the action scenes were well-staged. It did bug me that Rosamund Pike had this wide-eyed expression for a good 70% of her screentime though. Cast Away 7/10 Pretty good watch, but I couldn't stop feeling that the whole thing was a FedEx ad. The company didn't pay the film for any of the advertising, but it's really annoying to have logos and slogans constantly in your face. The movie itself it good however, but I think it could have explored the survival aspect much more in depth. And why the hell wouldn't he open the last parcel? Who gives a shit if it's someones stuff, there might have been something useful in it. oh, and I found this thing off the wikipedia page really funny:
During the 2003 Super Bowl, a commercial aired for FedEx Express which featured the scene where the package is delivered to the home, but with the woman answering. After delivering the package, the man asks what was in the box and the woman responds with, "Just a satellite phone, GPS locator, fishing rod, water purifier and some seeds. Just silly stuff."
i saw jack reacher on thursday before gangster squad because killing time and it sucked it clearly tried way too hard not to fall into being an action film but by doing that it lost the entertainment value of an action film, but it wasn't very clever or engaging so it failed as a drama or thriller as well. There was absolutely no sense of threat or danger at all throughout the entire film, and you just don't give a shit either way about anything. Partly because they make Jack Reacher out to be TOO badass so you just know he's gonna win and there's no doubt. Also they [sp]shouldn't have shown that guy to be the killer at the start when he wasn't actually the killer. Show someone doing it fine, just don't show his face[/sp] The intro was the best part of the scene. It was really cool and the long shot looking down the barrel of the gun through the scope was p awesome. And that phone scene where he hangs up and calls back 3 times was funny bad movie 5/10 [editline]12th January 2013[/editline] Also I watched Mullholand Dr. last night 8-9/10. I'm not sure if it's an 8 or a 9 because although the ending's pretty fuckin genius I can't help but feel a bit cheated. Definitely the best Lynch film I've seen and possibly his best effort as a director and storyteller. Fucking genius movie, shot beautifully and told in a great way. Great acting performances and yea overall fuckin great movie. been watching a lot of Twin Peaks in the past couple days as well after buying the 20th anniversary box set about 2 months ago. I started watching it but then forgot about it. Anyway it's awesome and getting more and more interesting as things are all falling into place. So fuckin great.

A world inside a world inside a.... well... Just watch it! It sounds mega cliche but it's awesome! TENOUTTATEN
ARGO - 9/10 Really liked it, the actors performed really well and although I knew [sp]they were going to get away[/sp] (hard to tell if that's really a spoiler, it's history) it still had the edge of your seat moments that made you forget that. The only real complaint I have is the transitions between scenes seemed abrupt to me.
Night at the Roxbury 6.5/10
Apollo 13 Watched it because it was on TV. Great movie, 9/10.
Django Unchained. What an amazing movie. Everything was perfect IMO. I haven't personally seen it, but all my friends hated Les Miserables. :v:
les mis was great. I only saw it regular screen but I'm gonna go see it in imax since the sound will be incredible.
I don't really know what your friends were expecting. Besides some of the iffy singing and maybe some mediocre cinematography (which shouldn't be a problem cause the movie overall was good imo) the only thing they could've hated was the plot itself or the fact that it was mostly singing, which should have been what they were expecting.
A Haunted House 5/10
Just saw Gangster Squad. 8/10 I really don't understand the negative reviews. I think people are trying to compare it to other films, but it's great if you enjoy it for what it is.
Wait, is Argo really that good?
Wait, is Argo really that good?
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wait, is Argo really that good?
looks like it
Drive 8/10
Argo - 8/10, kept me hooked throughout and was amazingly entertaining - ben affleck is actually a pretty great actor/director, gone are the days of pearl harbor. Flight - 6.5/10 - Decent film but the message is all over the place to be honest, denzel is amazing as always but I don't think portrayed a big enough arsehole to warrant the 'now I'm in prison because I crashed a plane drunk (even though I saved almost all the people on board) buut it's worth it because I've stopped being a little bit dickish!' Men in Black 3 - 4/10 - Goofy plot and villain with barely any tension, the aforementioned plot is so predictable you could write it out before watching the movie and get most of it correct. Also some astonishingly bad special effects considering it came out in 2012, in all the VFX/Greenscreen shots you consciously notice that it's fake, every single one (and there are a lot). Really makes it look like a lazy job when the suspension of disbelief doesn't even kick in. Redeeming factors are of course Josh Brolin's acting, tommy lee jones, emma thompson (who I would still totally do even though she's older than my mom) and all the goofy shenanigans that come out of it beig a time travel plot. Django Unchained - 9/10 - Amazingly enjoyable, loved it from start to finish. Was not expecting to like it this much but god damn it was great. Also I watched this before men in black 3 and going from this film's depiction of racial tension to MiB's racial tension (which consists of will smith being stopped by some 1960s cops and questions in a 'funny' way) really made you appreciate good filmmaking. Tarantino does gratuitousness so well. Also a comparison to MiB - the practical effects in this were fucking amazing, it's so great when movies don't use CG gore/bulletholes etc. Though the worst offender is the nolan batman films where they don't show any bulletholes at all and people just fall down with no sign of injruy. Skyfall 5/10 - Action parts are only really at the beginning and end, everything in between that feels like a waste of recording time. Nothing really happens? Silver was a really cool bad guy, but after hearing rumors that his act rivaled the Jokers is just absurd. He was good, but not that good. Only a few memorable pieces I'd watch the film again for.
Berserk Golden Age I & II 8/10 Really good reboot if you liked the series. Soundtrack is amazing, and the fighting is very suspenseful. Only thing that bothered me were some of the CGI scenes.
