if you hated Hurt Locker you'll probably like Zero DK, it's nothing like it.. at all.

I think they're both good, but neither are all that.
Saw Dredd last night. Jesus Christ, we were blown the fuck away. By far the best shoot em up action flick I've seen in a long time. I'm seriously itching for a sequel. All I knew about Judge Dredd was from that piece of shit Stallone film. I could never finish the Stallone film and after seeing Dredd I'm afraid I can't watch the old version at all. It's a spit in the face after seeing Dredd. Honestly I enjoyed Dredd more than The Avengers and TDKR. If I'm ever in the mood to read some graphic novels I know what series I'm checking out.
saw Silver Linings Playbook.
really great sweet film. Cast was superb.
I didn't have a clue what it would be about, avoided reading the plot or trailer.. if I did I don't think I'd have liked it as much.
De Niro's first genuinely heartfelt role in over a decade.
Cooper did really well, I didn't think the film would concern mental health issues at all. I've never seen that in a romantic drama tbh.
Worth a look.
how does it actually covet mental health? although it looked good, it did just kinda look like "oh you're crazy?? me too!! haha its so cool I have loads of meds to take but besides being a bit zany I actually act perfectly normal"
Brazil - weird/10
Predator- 10/10
one of those movies that have flaws but the flaws add to the charm and experience

I'm going to watch Dredd tonight after only hearing good stuff about it.
You should watch The Raid: Redemption, been told it's basically Dredd except in a different country and with a SWAT team, and it's fucking amazing.
Watched Seven Psychopaths yesterday. 10/10 probably favourite film I've seen in a while besides Django
raid and dredd share little to no similarities besides the setting and cops vs thugs
both are excellent, with the former being based more around martial arts (and GOOD martial arts) while the latter is a mix of that and gunplay
really wanna watch the raid. almost watched it with my friend when it came out on bluray but he also got mad max 2 on bluray and its one of the best films ever so. also it looked fucking great.

I've watched the Raid like 3 times because it's just so bad ass. You don't see a lot of really good practical martial art films like it recently. Shit is so good I can't wait for the sequel. Is Dredd gory?

watch it, you'll be surprised. don't watch trailers numbnuts
Watching The Impossible :-(
I can't help watching trailers if I'm in the cinema tho, but yea I'll watch it when its out on dvd probably. lots of films I never got to see in 2012, makes me sad. so many films.
The Impossible :-(
devastating film...
i think i have to rethink my top 2012 now :(
ewan's film of his career but naomi was fantastic.
Django Unchained - 8/10 fucking terrible
Is Dredd gory?
No. It is a good family film.

This isn't a movie but I guess it belongs here;
The Twilight Zone (Season 1, 1959-1960): 8.5/10.
This would have been ten out of ten if some of the episodes weren't lackluster, but that goes for most all TV series. Some episodes are better than others, my personal favourites being One for the Angels, Walking Distance, Escape Clause, Time Enough at Last, Perchance to Dream, I Shot an Arrow into the Air, Third from the Sun, The Hitch-Hiker, The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street, People Are Alike All Over, A Passage for Trumpet, Mr. Bevis, and finally A World of His Own. The rest are all good for the most part, but there's 4 or 5 episodes or so that let the season down a bit, but it certainly doesn't draw from the entertainment value that The Twilight Zone has. That being I enjoyed it thoroughly, it's probably my favourite TV series of all time, so far at least. I'm currently going through the rest of the seasons at my own pace, it's taken me about 2 months or so to watch all of the first season on and off. Now onto season 2!
So I just watched Dredd because of you guys and I have to say i was genuinely surprised. I had dismissed this movie after watching the trailer when it first came out. I was shocked on how good it actually was, Great Soundtrack , Cool visuals and intense action throughout. Even the story was leagues better than I had expected. 8.5/10
Cloud Atlas. 9/10.
I liked it.
Django Unchained 7/10
People criticized Gangster Squad for being too comedic. I thought Gangster Squad's comedic moments were well blended with the rest of the film. Django was half serious half comedy, and it didn't blend completely. That mixed with Tarantino's overly cheesy camera shots, and the cheesy comedy forced into the action shots.
I loved DiCaprio as the villain though.
Gangster Squad - 8/10
Yeah the writing and plot weren't all that great, but the style, setting, and actors made it work a lot better than it could have. Especially Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen.
The comedy bits was also surprisingly good and didn't take me out of the movie. Overall a solid action film.

What issues are people having with the writing? I know obviously they changed some facts from real life, but is that it?
King Kong (2005) 8/10
It was one of the best remakes i've ever seen, it had awesome action scenes and the soundtrack was excellent, but.. the bug pit man, that's probably facepunch's worst nightmare
Chronicle
what/10

Nah I masturbated furiously to that scene. Had to rewind twice.
Zero Dark Thirty 8/10
The movie really dragged its feet for awhile but the last 30 minutes made it a fantastic watch
Those thinking this is some kind of propaganda film are very mistaken, it doesn't paint the CIA in a very positive manner and at times Seal Team 6.
The Thing
9/10
One of Carpenter's best films, imo, loved the atmosphere and effects. Also it has Kurt Russell
Gran Torino
8.5/10
Good watch, it was nice to see Walt change from racist bigot so somewhat less racist bigot. Also, that's a damn fine car.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
8/10
Also got around to watching the Director's Cut of Bladerunner a while back.
Feels a bit different than the original (the first one I watched was the international theatrical release version, I think), but I think it's better this way.
[sp]That "happy ending" really felt shoe-horned in, glad it's gone[/sp]
10/10
What issues are people having with the writing? I know obviously they changed some facts from real life, but is that it?
that and the script was pretty basic and predictable, probably. it wasn't a bad script or anything though, nd its a good film
Lincoln
As political dramas go... I'm not a fan. I'm more of a "political thriller" kind of guy and politics are one of the rare things that bore me. This was fairly intriguing but as a movie about Lincoln's entire influence, I felt it fell short.
Most people hated the ending, I thought it was pretty good... one of the more creative parts of the film tbh.
All in all, this is a film for historians rather than a film for enthusiasts. It's definitely well put together but it relies heavily on pure dialogue and nothing much else.
I'll have to see it again with subtitles because I wasn't "a whole lot into the script" as I probably should have been...
Argo
Good film, Keanu Affleck was pretty good. Fairly intense thriller.
Thought I'd have more to say about it, but in terms of lasting impressions I dunno. Definitely worth a look.
