I thought that there was a bit of a disconnect between TDK and TDKR. In The Dark Knight's ending, Batman's riding off, the music triumphantly swells, and Gordon proclaims him as a hero and protector. So the rational assumption is that he continues crimefighting despite plunging his hands into the filth, right? No, he rides the Batpod home and proceeds to lock himself in his room for eight years. There's a similar plot line - Batman retires, the city needs him, he makes a triumphant return - in The Dark Knight Returns but it has more punch to it; he's been Batman for much longer, he's older and grumpier, etc. It's said that most high schoolers consider the Batman to be a myth (Bruce has been retired for ten years); in Rises, the kid who asks Blake if Batman will come back was probably only six years old last time Batman was seen (eight years ago). For The Avengers we had five movies in four years - they all built off each other and built up hype for the big movie we all knew was coming. By contrast, Rises came out four years after The Dark Knight and - like I said above - didn't connect that well. It sounds like I'm really ragging on the movie - I'm not, I enjoyed it, but it was a bit underwhelming.
at the end of tdk he takes the fall for [sp]dent's fall[/sp], and since batman is supposed to be a symbol of inspiration to the justice-minded folk of gotham, it just wouldn't be right to keep on crime-fighting with that elephant in the room. so in that sense, it seems logical to me that he'd retire. and regarding the kid, i figure some parents have to have told their children about batman. it seems sort of like a santa claus thing. parents tell their kids about it, and later in high school they all come to the conclusion that he's made up. i will agree though that gordon's end speech seems a bit off in comparison. but i also don't think the avengers is a very fair comparison. that movie is all about the spectacle, and the movies leading up to it weren't all made by the same people, and thus could be made simultaneously. jay and mike put it very well, the marvel movies have been very much about the "nerdgasm". maybe its for the best though that it wasn't as hyped up as the avengers. i came in with fairly average expectations and left feeling completely blown away.
Watched American Beauty and Man on the Moon without really knowing anything about either American Beauty was amazing. Really dark but also a bit of a weird blend with some comedy that worked really well. Man on the Moon just felt all around kind of underwhelming decent. I enjoyed it although I was kind of waiting for it to finish towards the end. I'll probably never watch it again but I don't regret watching it either.

Total Recall (2012) 8/10: doesn't compare to the first one, if you're looking for a remake, but as a standalone, it's pretty okay. Didn't really see many problems with it. Dr. Horrible's sing along blog (2008) 9/10: Was a treat to watch, might look to getting the soundtrack. Man I love Netflix.
It's not anything like a Tarantino film... nor is it meant to be. It's a William Friedkin movie... you know, the director of The Excorcist and The French Connection
What I actually said was fans of Tarantino will like the film, not that it was like his stuff. The dark, black comedy is on a similar wavelenth to Tarantino's work which is why I said fans of his will like the film. All in the eye of the beholder.
The Impossible: holy fuck Easily 9/10
The Fly, noending/10. God damn I liked it but then they left me in a crazy lurch. Please tell me there was a cut that had some sort of resolution to [sp]the pregnancy and the guy losing his hand and ankle[/sp] parts, non-endings are the worst.
Silver Linings Playbook Basically just watched it because of Jennifer Lawrence. Was pretty surprised how damn good it was. 9/10
Please tell me there was a cut that had some sort of resolution to [sp]the pregnancy and the guy losing his hand and ankle[/sp] parts, non-endings are the worst.
According to Wikipedia there are four alternate endings. The first was in the original script and was shown to test audiences. 1. [sp]Veronica Quaife is seen in bed with Stathis Borans (having married him) some time after Seth Brundle's death. She awakens from another nightmare in which she gives birth to Brundle's child, and Stathis reassures her that she is safe and that the baby she is now carrying (having presumably aborted Brundle's) is his. Veronica then falls back to sleep, and she is now dreaming of a beautiful human baby with butterfly wings hatching from a cocoon and flying off towards a distant light source.[/sp] 2. [sp]Veronica in bed with Stathis, but without her being pregnant. Instead, Stathis reassures her that "there's no baby". She then falls back to sleep and has the butterfly-baby dream.[/sp] 3. [sp]Veronica waking up alone and in her own bed, then falling back to sleep and having the butterfly-baby dream. In this version, she is clearly still pregnant with Brundle's baby.[/sp] 4. [sp]Veronica waking up alone and in her own bed, then having the butterfly-baby dream. In this version, she is not visibly pregnant (thus leaving the ending ambiguous).[/sp] The epilogue was intended [sp]as an upbeat bookend for Veronica's earlier maggot-baby dream, and to give the surviving characters a more hopeful ending.[/sp] However, the coda did not fare well with the preview audience, since they were too stunned by the film's climax. Further, [sp]no one wanted to see her end up with Stathis Borans (which is one reason why the alternate, Borans-less versions of the coda were shot).[/sp]
How can people here say dredd is underrated? Its a 2012 movie with a 50mil. budget, its everywhere its so goddamn popular i wasted my time watching it. I consider something that hasnt been in cinemas, hard to find on dvds and almost nobody talks about it to be underrated.Something like Le Havre 2011.Also seen Dark City recently, wich got surprisingly better as the movie progressed; this is a feature afew films have nowadays.

Besides, what is considered underrated is entirely subjective to begin with.
Training Day 8/10 8 Mile 8/10
*All that closure*
[sp]Can't possibly imagine why people wouldn't want to see Stathis married to her, given that he's a massive douchebag and all.[/sp] Cheers. To make up for an off-topic post, I had watched Airplane! before The Fly. 9.5/10, easily one of my favourite comedy movies.
The Others 8/10
Is "Take Shelter" worth a watch?
Is "Take Shelter" worth a watch?
It's a slow burner with a so-so ending but it's got a great soundtrack and it's moody as all hell.
Is "Take Shelter" worth a watch?
fuck yes? [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] michael shannon is a fantastic actor.

There Will Be Blood - 8/10 Definitely a very good film, and I did enjoy it, but I felt like it was missing something, though I'm not sure what. No hugely memorable scenes, but interesting characters and it kept my attention.
Howl's moving castle 9.5/10 always wanted to see it after watching Spirited away (which i also loved) best decision i made in a long time
The Comedy - 6.8/10 thoughtful and realistic, i liked it. similair to Detachment but just less good was quite aimless
Chopper (2000) - 78/100 Brilliant acting, entertaining writing
