The George Clooney movie marathon continues. Syriana - Didn't like it. All the stories they wanted to show were so loosely related to each other I might like enjoyed it more if they were all shown as half hour sections that stood on their own. They didn't give much of a reason to care about anyone besides Clooney and Matt Damon's characters anyway. [sp]And Clooney dies in one of the most anti-climatic fashions. wtf.[/sp] Need to watch Up in the Air tonight if I don't get distracted by MechWarrior Online.
it's a struggle to keep up with tbh but challenges are good.
lol. I didn't have a problem keeping up with it. It just did a bad job relating all its stories. [editline]22nd January 2013[/editline] Christ you can be condescending.
watched The Impossible again. still a 9/10. Its the first movie that's ever made me shed tears. The "i coulda saved one more" scene in Schindler's List, Old Yeller, all that shit only ever made me well up a little. This movie actually had me crying. And its mostly in part due to the stellar performances, namely those of Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. They play the part of terrified people rapidly losing what remains of their hope pretty goddamn well. Every wound inflicted, every moment of doubt, every moment of relief and joy is brought to life by the actors. See this film as soon as you can.
Burn after Reading - 8/10 Thoroughly enjoyed it, started to pick up towards the end.
also adding onto this it has one of the most competent child actors i've seen in the industry
yeah I was amazed how well they did, whoever casted them is a genius. Without a doubt, the best of '12 for me.
Cannibal Halocaust 8/10
Final destination 1-4 I got all 5 but I cant bring myself to watch the 5th one, it just gets worse and worse. fd1: 7/10 decent thriller fd2: 6.5/10 its okay fd3: 5.5/10 starting to slip fd4: 5/10 its a fucking landslide In the first one, the insane circumstances only happened after the first accident, which was completely normal, and that made sense. The rest of them, the original accideent was just as bullshit magical as the rest of them. Also, I learned that every car explodes on impact with anything, GFI outlets are a lie, and the human skull is made out of jello. They aren't even creative anymore. Every movie, something drips water on an outlet and frys the whole house, and every other accident, SURPRISE! SOMETHING FLAMMABLE TIPS OVER AND SPILLS!
Again, the scale goes from 1 to 10, not 5 to 10.
Gozu 7/10 Izo 5/10
Again, the scale goes from 1 to 10, not 5 to 10.
It wasn't THAT bad, it was 5/10 bad. The only two movies I could think of that deserve below 2 are birdemic and army of the dead.
ooh boooyyy all the The Impossible reviews are exciting me gonna see it tomorrow
Never really watched any Tarantino movies so I decided to give a few of them a go. Kill Bill Vol 1 - 6.5/10 Kill Bill Vol 2 - 6/10 Death Proof 5.5/10 They were alright. His style seems a bit too forced for me and the pacing of the movies really irritated me. Please don't hurt me.
Silver Linings Playbook - 9/10 bradley coopers best acting yet, i seriously hope he stays away from movies like Hangover from now on
I actually came in to this thread to post pretty much exactly what you posted. Fantastic movie.
You should watch them again someday, maybe you'll like them more. Those movies are all really, really good, though. Maybe you just weren't in the mood or something.
if you don't like a tarantino film the first time, I doubt you will in the future. Rarely does a movie really deliver a whole new experience for me the second time around. Also there's no need to get "objective" because he's not a fan.
kill bills like tarantinos worst anyway. watch reservoir dogs its the best.
Oh yeah I've also recently watched We Need to Talk About Kevin. Such great cinematography. Also Tilda Swinton is great. Excellent movie, such a pleasure to watch. 8.5/10.
the shorter version is easy to handle, redux is a bit far out and a challenge to watch (i prefer it)
Thats a tough one to call. I managed to catch Redux at a cinema some time back and I'm still undecided. Theres some scenes like the extra one with the bunny girls that works. The plantation scene was fantasticly done but for me it just didn't fit in with the aura of the film. I'm glad they put that out because for a long time there had been talk of the extras but nothing surfaced. The original cut for me doesn't break from the continuous mood of the film but the 12" redux version sure was exciting to see. Both are such good experiences.
kill bill always seemed distant from his entire filmography tbh. It's not as bitter and ruthless as the others. I'd say it's the only "family friendly" out of the lot. Maybe that doesn't sound right seeing as everyone's bound by certs but still.
I saw Wreck-It Ralph. I thought it was garbage, especially the Sugar Rush scenes, which kinda dragged on for a while.
Jesus Christ: Vampire Slayer. -999/10 holy shit was that movie bad.
kill bills like tarantinos worst anyway. watch reservoir dogs its the best.
I loved Reservoir Dogs. In his other films he has a defining style which I'm not crazy about. I thought Django was a great film, but I think it would've been better without his insanely dramatic camera shots and the (in my opinion) unneeded humor.
Halloween (Remake): 2 out of 10 Never again. I have seen some bad horror movies, but holy shit.
Alright, went moviehopping with my friends yesterday, and we saw: Broken City - 7/10 Incredibly predictable (from the film's trailer) but still enjoyable. Wahlberg and Crowe are really the only thing worth seeing in this movie, considering they also take up a majority of screentime. The Last Stand - 6/10 Only had an interest in this because of Arnold, and while it wasn't complete crap, it could have been better. Naturally, Arnold had the best lines and such, the other cops were pretty good, too (and I believe Sif from Thor is one of them). Gangster Squad - 7.5/10 This was pretty great, everything was better than I expected. I would have thought that it was going to take an Untouchables route and *have most of the main cast killed off,* but it did not and was still a good watch. Zero Dark Thirty - 6/10 While I still don't really care for this movie, I think it got a little better with a second viewing. Also, my friend hadn't seen Django Unchained yet, and the theater wasn't playing it, so we went back to his house and watched it, while playing an awesome drinking game to it. It's still the best movie of the year.
Courageous. A great movie on all accounts 10/10 for me that's for sure
Visitor Q This is a hot hot movie 9/10
Blade Runner (Final Cut): 9/10 Damn this movie is great. Why haven't I seen this earlier?
