The Last Stand - 8/10
Really good film and well worth the watch.
Lots of good funny bits with some awesome action included. Arnie is Back.
I watched the Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2
9/10
I really liked it, I think I like it more than the Dark Knight Rises.
Ip Man 1 & 2.
9/10
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 4/10
I was expecting a somewhat cheesy but fun action film, kind of like ALVH which I loved. This one really wasn't that great. The witches were so cliche and cheesy. And they put generic ideas from children's movies into an R rated film. Such as the typical monster that turns out to be friendly, who becomes the center of corny jokes.
The only 3 good points I can think of:
Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton are good actors. Despite the bad film they were thrown into, they made the most of it.
The action was mindless but entertaining. Not enough to save the film, however.
Probably the best part of the film was seeing a Felicia Day lookalike completely naked.
Rushmore, 9/10
Had to pause it multiple times because I was laughing too hard.
Seven Psychopaths - 7/10
John Dies At The End - whatthefuckamiwatching/10
The cook, the thief, his wife and her lover (1989)
The problem with being the darling of art house cinema is that people quickly get bored of you and that was the story of Peter Greenaway, the director of this masterpiece. I don't really like his other films because he can be a bit of a shock jock rather than relying on story and delivery.
The cook, the thief is a brutal story of a wife trapped in a life she hates because her husband is a gangster who dominates everybody around him with brutal effect. The cook is well, a chef at the restaurant where much of the film is shot, the wife is played by Helen Mirren and the thief is the unbelievable Michael Gambon. Gambon is the star of this film and devours the character with a performance so over the top it's funny, frightening and mesmerising. Mirren delivers the delicate flip side which gives the film balance.
This isn't one for the faint hearted as some of the scenes are quite nasty. Greenaway always gives the impression he is making films for his own gratification and if anybody else likes them then it’s a bonus. Fortunately it delivers this time and doesn't disappear up his ass like he did with the follow up to it called The Baby of Macon (what a borefest). Greenaway will probably never hit a high like this again so let his world swallow you up and try not to get put off by the singing boy.
I highly recommend this film if you want to try entry level arthouse without getting pissed off..
I recently went to see Mama in theaters with friends, and oh my dear lord why even review it. If I were to review it like your average decent movie with a plot and relatable characters I'd give it a 2/10.
1. Shitty plot and back story, hardly a redeeming ending
2. Little to no explanation of why "Mama" even exists or what the fuck she is
3. Flat, 2D characters (except for Daniel Kash, whom I can tell has been working in show biz for a little while, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, A Game of Thrones)
If I reviewed it like your average modern day shitty horror film that you see for shits and giggles, then I'd give it a solid 6/10.
1. I like the cinematography/lighting
2. Daniel Kash
3. Nikolaj_Coster-Waldau (he's kinda handsome)
These two guys manage to make a decent performance in my opinion.
For All Mankind - 9.5/10
Beautiful movie. Soundtrack by Brian Eno was perfect.
I highly recommend this film.
How was Sunshine?

I really enjoyed it up until end when the movie completely changes direction. Still worth a watch imo.
you know i always wondered why the hipster mentality gets so much shit throwing
like I completely understand that people who refuse to see/do/associate with anything popular are morons and deserve to be treated thusly
but there is a semblance of truth to the idea that something with a broader and larger audience in mind has a greater chance to suffer in overall quality, especially considering that there aren't many examples that debunk this
not saying that all movies with a larger intended audience are shit or anything as banal as that, but I believe that some aspects of the "hipster" mentality are very true to form

looking back on this post hours later, i realize i just said something very fuckin obvious
Hipsterism is a myth.
The end.

It's only used as an insult and there is no damn stereotype that exists which constitutes one.

Rusty thinks a movie is too soft to be meaningful personally.. is not a pretentious judgement. For the love of ass, this "hardass defending" of films needs to stop.
Jonestown the life and death of peoples temple (2006) Docu film.
Brian Jones was the infamous cult leader in the 70's who took over 900 people to Guyana to set up a commune cut off from the outside world. As the power went to his head the unstable side began to show itself but for his followers it was too late, they believed in him. How does one man exert such control over so many people? Interviews with those who came out the other side and original footage and soundtapes reveal everything. One of the most facinating docu's I've seen in some time. Recommended.
Seven Psychopaths 73/100
quite fun

I was thinking of seeing that, please expand your comments without giving anything away.

it had script
[editline]27th January 2013[/editline]
actor
i'd watch it because Walken has been in fuck all films lately.
no but seriously it was pretty good. Though if you're looking for anything that is similar to previous Martin McDonagh's films like In Bruge, you should see The Guard (which is pretty fucking awesome), directed by Martin's brother John.
Anyway, Seven Psychopaths. The acting is pretty good, but I feel that the movie could have been better if the story wasn't literally about the movie itself or something. It came off a bit pretentious, perhaps.
Either way it's entertaining with very memorable characters :)
Django Unchained: 9/10
Really good. The action, music, plot, acting and basically everything else about it is great. I don't know why people have been saying the funny bits didn't fit very well, I thought it worked perfectly.
The Dark Knight Returns part 2: 8/10
I kind of wish Rises was more like this although it might not work so well in live action. My only real complaint is the voice actors weren't as good as Conroy or Hamill.
Seven Psychopaths was one of my best theater experiences in a long time
It was much just me, a group of friends, and some couple in the back since I guess it didn't get enough attention
When it got to the [sp]scene where he describes the final shootout[/sp] the whole theater was just in tears laughing for the entire thing
i thought seven psychopaths had a pretty dumb plot and mostly dumb dialogue
it's like he wrote in bruges then hit himself in the head with a hammer a bunch of times then wrote seven psychopaths
I just saw Gangster Squad and Django Unchained, and they were both really great. Some parts of Gangster Squad seemed a bit dragged out, but its awesome if you like period movies from that era. And I'm assuming Django's been discussed to death already, so I'll just leave it at that it's a Tarantino film, and I haven't seen anything he's made that I didn't like.
Just saw people actually give number ratings, so Gangster Squad: 8/10, Django: 9.5/10
Dragonheart: 6/10
Aside from a generic story, bad CGI, and some pretty bad acting, Dragonheart is a fun film. The dragon is a very good character, and the costume design is excellent.
Prometheus - 3/10
visually beautiful movie ruined by shite characters and plot.
Men in Black 3 - 7.5/10
It's got some flaws (especially in the first act) but once it gets going it's quite good. Josh Brolin is fantastic as Tommy Lee Jones.
Birdemic: Shock and Terror - -1/10
I had heard it was terrible, but I never imagined a movie could be that bad. I'm strangely impressed.
Friday. It's a great movie but seems to transition from entirely humor to a bit of moral near the end, but overall it's a solid 8.5/10. I'm only taking off for the underlying shift, it confused me a bit. Otherwise, great humor and great time waster if you're looking for a leanback movie.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - 2/10
Just by the title alone, you shouldn't really expect a decent plot. You could see some of the surprises coming from a mile away. There were some funny moments, but it wasn't that much of a uncontrollable laughter funny. Some of the action moments were good and sometimes violent, but you could easily tell that every blood is done with CGI. The only character that stood out in the entire movie was Jeremy Renner, but that's only because he doesn't really fit in a fantasy setting.
It was still an entertaining film, but you need to be less cynical about movies in order to fully enjoy it.
Two bonus points for Gretel being hot and her fan trying to wash her tits while she was unconscious.
What about the slutty naked Felicia Day clone?
post her ass
post her ass
