[sp]It's a dying hallucination dream thing. Or symbolic. After getting stabbed in the stomach, collapsing in his car and staying completely still with his eyes wide open for like a whole minute, he's almost definitely not alive.
But I could be wrong. It might be purposefully ambiguous.[/sp]
Wreck it, Ralph!
I expected it to have a lot more references to video-games and all, but it was pretty cool. Kinda generic in some aspects, but still fun.
The Assassination of Jesse James (4th watching) - 10/10
its just perfect, absolutely haunting and beautifully thought characters
this might just be my favourite movie ever im really just speechless at how well the story gets told.
also i feel kind of dumb but this is the first time i noticed that the guy with guitar is Nick Cave
Finished watching Big Lebowski a while ago.
I have absolutely no idea what I just watched.
My favorite description of that movie is "Stoner and violent friend fail to solve the non-mystery of a not-kidnapping"
Funny but the trailers nearly dragged me into that one but the feedback I'm getting off everybody is so negative. Might put that one on the list for the 'really bored night' which is never.
I liked it. It wasn't amazing, it had a lot of problems and weird stuff but it was still pretty enjoyable.
Like, even though it's based at some stage in the past, I don't know when, but why didn't they know David Bowie's Heroes? Like, I'm pretty sure that song was famous since it existed. But they listen to it and it's like MAN WHAT IS THIS SONG and then they spend the whole movie trying to find it again
i was just like
IT'S HEROES
IT'S HEROES ITS A DAVID BOWIE SONG
you don't need the internet to find that out!! ask literally anybody else!!!
i just didnt understand

all they talk about is this new dubstep craze.
did you ever stop to think maybe he was insinuating something
He's usually really serious about the stuff he recommends. I first learned about Mizoguchi and Guy Maddin from him. He has such an eclectic taste and doesn't usually pay attention to stuff like that, not even in a sarcastic way, so I really don't know what's going on with him. I guess we all have our disagreements about tastes.

I think I'm getting a little too upset about him. Maybe if I watch it again I can see something he does.
Safety Not Guaranteed: 8/10 Pretty good movie!

If it's like the book, it's supposed to be the early-mid 90's. I agree about the whole song thing, but it stayed really true to the book which I loved, amd I dunno, something about it made me really like it. 9/10
Blue Velvet
Damn, that was some heavy stuff. The movie starts so innocent and joyful but then turns into a dark and utterly psychopathic mess. I really liked the contrast between those 2. Although it's a unusual movie which is fairly normal for Lynch. Although it made a lot more sense than his other work. The sexual rites and dialogue was messed up for sure, it gave me the chills. The cast was amazing, Dennis Hopper did such a great job. So did Maclachlan and his girlfriend in the movie.
I don't know how to rate it because there's a lot of hidden symbolism that I fail to comprehend, but it's definitly an experience. I was stunned and amazed the whole time. The music was marvelous.
RIP dennis hopper.
He was amazing in that.

I think it was just supposed to be one of those "God I fucking love this song but have no idea what it is." Sort of deals. They couldn't google the lyrics or anything.
Just watched Donnie Darko again (9/10 for sure) and I think I have just about everything figured out except for [sp] the death. I don't get why it happened. Did he just not know? Did he choose? I need some theories. [/sp]

yeah but they knew how it went. how could you not know of david bowie and how could you not just think to ask someone 'what's hte song that goes like 'WE COULD BE HEROES, JUST FOR ONE DAY' and they would tell you it's david bowie's heroes.
[editline]30th January 2013[/editline]
im saying that they should have picked a more obscure song because an ultra famous one makes no sense in that context

Wow I was kind of mad that my friends went to see a movie without me today, but once I found out that they watched this I feel like I dodged a bullet.
Just the trailer makes it look like the shittiest thing ever.
Zero Dark Thirty
Completely blew my expectations out of the water and redeemed Katheryn Bigelow in my eyes, because I thought hurt locker was shit.
This was rock solid and like I said, not what I expected. It's not perfect and suffers from some of the same flaws hurt locker did, namely, disjointed storytelling (one moment its like 2004 the next its like 2010 with no clear transition???) and gets bogged down in the details at times, but otherwise its an excellent film.
The ending raid scene might also be one of the more realistic and refreshingly restrained military sequences I've seen in a movie ever as well. I was honestly expecting this to be some over the top hooah bullshit like hurt locker, but was pleasantly surprised.
Would highly recommend it, especially to the facepunch crowd who were tearing it to shreds when the trailer came out.

Just checked back, no one tore anything. It's just business as usual around here, bunch of dudes whine about something, bunch of others like that something.
The Graduate (1967)
Rating: 8/10
This movie was absolutely hilarious. It stars Dustin Hoffman in his first major role as a young college graduate who is seduced by his father's business partner's wife, known only as Mrs. Robinson, and then falls in love with her daughter, Elaine. The soundtrack is decent, with all the music done by Simon & Garfunkel. I especially enjoy the song Mrs. Robinson. This movie also helps me appreciate Wayne's World 2 more, as the climactic scene is a clear homage to this film. Overall, I'd recommend it.

They needed some "oh my god what is this song" scene and just did it wrong with a good song, even more of a reason why the movie is bad.

The whole movie is just one big wank of the US, here's a tip America: making a movie about it is NOT enough when dealing with problems, national traumas and moral conflicts.
Watched Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Looper last night.
Batman: 8/10
Looper: 9/10 [sp]This time travel crap, just fries your brain like a egg... [/sp]
saw two films about the topic of pedophilia, both very different.
Happiness
and
Trust
both are brilliant, HOWEVER they really don't go together at all. I'd say in terms of what they mean to me, I'd say Trust was more resonating with me.
That being said Happiness is on the complete other side of the spectrum, after seeing Trust I'm kind of ashamed to have liked that film. It's more a parody than anything else and it shouldn't be funny. It's a dark comedy going further beyond what you'd think...
Trust is a lot more "socially acceptable", if that means anything.. It's fairly straight-forward and universal where as the other film really is in its own place.
Trust was directed by David Schwimmer, whom I now have a greater respect for. He's now a matured filmmaker as compared to his days as a TV series actor. He was the best on that show but now he's directing with a group of fantastic actors.
Not seen Clive Owen in a film... well in a lead role in a film and his performance was staggeringly good. However, the one who really shone was the daughter. I'm not sure how a person who was 15/14 at the time could play a genuine rape victim but she was brilliant and authentic.
Both films recommended, Happiness is ridiculously funny, but in the seriousness you'll need to see both for a balance.
Todd Solondz makes such nice feel-good movies. He's almost as heart-warming as Lars von Trier.
The raid scene of ZDT was p.awesome, even though the rest of the movie is boring as shit
