I don't think Fifth Element is that inconsistent, it's just one of those sorts of fun adventure movies that pairs drama with comedy and action
Breathless - 8/10
An essential piece of French New Wave cinema, just as poignant and relevant today as it was when it came out.
The cinematography is gorgeous, the writing is smart and complex without being difficult, the characters are layered and believable. However, I thought that the [sp]20-minute long sequence of the two main characters just sitting in a room and talking[/sp], whilst just as compelling as the rest of the film, kind of messed with the established pacing.
Maybe I'll warm up to it more upon a rewatch.
guess what I just watched?
The Fifth Element - 10/10
That was very... french. I didn't even know Luc Besson directed this, holy fuck (probably because the first time I watched this, I didn't know who he was). More bizarre than I remember, and (sorry AK'z) better than Total Recall. TR has that unique early 90's feeling to it, but it's not as "impacting" as The Fifth Element, because, even though I knew the ending to the latter, I still felt that the world was in danger every time.
Aladdin 8.5/10
It was the first time I actually sat down and watched the whole thing since i was little and i didnt remember much from it. I really liked the music in this, pretty catchy and not annoying at all and Robin Williams really made it for me.

Interesting movie, nothing like Emmerich's previous films, but I also don't agree with the theory stated in the film. I'd give it a 7/10, the visuals were nice as shit, and especially on a low budget too, this should have made more money.
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three- 9/10
Fucking brilliant. You don't see movies like this anymore.
edit: 1974 original
Moneyball - 8.5/10...
Girlfriend rented it due to hearing it mentioned during the Oscars or whatever the fuck.
It was surprisingly good, Brad Pitt was just so great and it features a criminally underused Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
It helps to know a bit about baseball before you go watching it though.

I would have never guessed that it had a low budget. I enjoyed it very much even though I knew that it wasn't historically correct.
It was intense. Lars is actually a great director, plenty of worthy things in his catalogue.
It's just that one scene didn't have to happen.
it looked like it was going to be amazing in the first half when it was... well, human. the psychological drama with the baby dying and the parents staying in their cabin to pull themselves together was so promising, and I loved the filming and the atmosphere... and then suddenly WOMEN AND EVIL and stupid symbolism and that... that fox...
Heat - 9/10
It's awesome. The characters are great, and for the most time I was unsure if I should root for Neil or Vincent. Bot characters are wonderful, [sp]and even though one of them was bad, it was a shame to see him get whacked in the end. But he did get what was coming to him.[/sp] The action was amazing, and really, it was actually kinda scary how real it felt. The lack of music in the shootout sequences is what makes them so awesome; the scene plays like I'm actually in the crowd watching these cops and robbers having a bulletfest.
I only have one question; what happened to Chris?
man i fucking love heat
the robbery scene is fucking brilliant
Contagion- 9/10
Great movie with a stellar cast and it really lures you in. What's great about it is how the virus spreads throughout the movie and how everyone around it is reacting to it. First quarter of the movie nobody knows about it, second quarter some people know about it. Then in the last half of the movie people are on riots and people are trying to make money selling false cures. Everything practically spirals out of control in a great panic. If you like disaster movies I really recommend seeing this.
It also has a killer soundtrack composed by Cliff Martinez, the guy behind the music from Drive. Really gets you on edge.

The original.
Someone suggest me a good Michael Sheen movie
American Psycho 9/10
Watched this on a /tv/ stream to see what all the hype was about. Bale delivered a solid performance; in the beginning, he just seems like a boisterous asshole, but he slowly slips more and more until he's completely unhinged and can't tell what's real. Plenty of over-the-top scenes and great lines fill up the space inbetween, balanced by a kickin' 80s soundtrack. It ends up being a pretty depressing commentary on what really is "successful" in business and in life.
Also was chock-full of excellent reaction images, and dubs.
Tuba Atlantic, 8/10 - which is the second highest I've rated a film here
The Fifth Element does something weird to me, by the time I'm done watching it my stomach feels really sick, that damn movies changes tone so rapidly, and randomly it just turns my stomach.
Other then that its a damn good movie, I just don't watch it often.
Seriously? It was just like every other shitty action film, coincidentally directed by Tony Scott featuring Denzel and trains. Boy that guy likes denzel and trains

Normal or Extended?
Extended obviously...
Speaking of long ass movies
Kingdom of Heaven (Directors Cut)
Without going into the plot too much, It might not be the most historically accurate story, but it really makes you think about the way religion effects people and the world (and for once it doesn't portray Muslims as barbarians and the Christians aren't completely good). Great battle scenes, intricately detailed sets and costumes, a solid cast (my favorites of the movie are Liam Neeson and Edward Norton), and a truly epic score by Harry Gregson-Williams (I believe it outshines Zimmer's Gladiator, the movie that many compare Kingdom of Heaven to). Do yourself a favor and skip the theatrical cut, this version fixes practically everthing that was wrong with the theatrical cut.
9 out of 10
Groundhog day 7.9/10
had a good laugh, another one of those movies i saw as a kid but only remembered small parts of it
