Is "As good as it gets" any good?
I think I saw it once 10 years ago. But my memory may be corrupted, from what I can remember Jack Nicholson wants to have sex with a younger girl he's in a relationship with, they don't, but then he falls in love with her mother and they do it.. Again, this may be wrong. [editline]10th March 2012[/editline] okay disregard that I realise now I was talking of "Something's Gotta Give"
Hugo 8.2
At least I'm not alone. I'm a bit "backwards" when it comes to Kubrick movies. 2001 and Dr. Strangelove are among my least favorites of his and Eyes Wide Shut and A Clockwork Orange are my favorites. I think the hype killed it for me with those movies, though. They're praised so much that I expected more.
one thing I'll say is that seeing 2001 in the Cinema changes everything
The Departed. 8.7 I fucking love Dingnam
Being Elmo 9/10 Didn't know Elmo was puppeted and voiced by a big black guy.
The woman in black is a 10\10 for me, it obviously had some traits from 80's movies like The Changeling with the best of modern horror, harry potter's performance was great, overall its a good solid psychological horror movie and everyone that appreciates the gender must see it!

Wish I could watch it on a big cinema screen, especially for the stargate sequence.
Orphan (aka We Need to Talk About Esther) I enjoyed it for the most part. The ending (specifically the final 'fight') was a huge anti-climax though. Unfortunately just before watching the film I read the twist, not realising it was a spoiler. As the film went on and the reveal still hadn't happened I realised it had been spoiled, I would have liked to have watched it with no prior knowledge. I thought that both female child actors were great, with Isabelle Fuhrman giving an extremely creepy performance that belies her age. Tension was built suitably but perhaps too obviously on occasion, with jump scares and that thing where it builds up to a jump scare but there isn't one becoming too predictable. The dialogue was very cheesy at times, with lines such as
Nurse: Your baby is dead. Mother: No it's alive.
and I thought some scenes were directed pretty badly, especially the sex scenes. It wasn't very scary either. 7/10
Night of the Living Dead 6.8 I'm on a roll tonight! Didn't really enjoy this one that much, though. It was still good, but nothing too special.
Howl's Moving Castle. 8 or 9 / 10. The war confused me but then again I guess it didn't really need to be explained. I have Porco Rosso too, I heard it's different than his other films (I could go for a not love story Miyazaki film)
A Separation 8.3/10
Red State 10/10 Loved every second of this movie. So many good scenes. Awesome acting, exactly what I imagine religion crazed domestic terrorists would be like. I don't doubt there's plenty of groups in America like this. John Goodman is bad ass!
The Grey 7/10 Really liked it. It had some weird things like [sp]the effect weather had on the characters wasn't all that substantial. While in a normal situation like that you would be in a lot more trouble because of it.[/sp]. Besides that; good watch.
Killer Elite 10/10 Action kept it exciting throughout the whole movie, the twists were placed correctly and [sp]I was surprised when Statham's squad-members were killed![/sp] Excellent movie!
Killer Elite was surprisingly good until halfway through, but it got much worse after that
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (US Version): 8/10. Pretty enjoyable with some good acting, I still have to see the original version. But I liked how it was shot and I loved the music by Reznor.
Dare mo shiranai (Nobody knows) 8/10 Second time I've seen this movie. Powerful film imo.
Moneyball I don't give a single shit about baseball but I loved it and it was interesting to see a movie about a subject I don't ever think about. Great performances all around (even Jonah Hill was surprisingly good) and it felt realistic and not inspirational in a bullshit way.
Doom was fucking god awful beyond description, how can you say you enjoyed it and keep a straight face?
I'm stumped as to all the stigma surrounding event horizon. i mean i can kinda see certain parts technically where it's a bit cheesy but every other technical thing that isn't cheesy makes up for it in spades. the only real shame is that it was originally 2 hours and ten minutes long, but all that cut footage is gone sadly... :.( plus the performances by the actors are all top notch. [sp]the part when the dude finds the bomb, the expression he makes is absolutely perfect. i heard in the commentary paul liked it so much he forwent a cgi effect showing him blowing apart, in my opinion that would have fucking ruined it. i'm so glad he didn't do that because it's my favorite death in the movie.[/sp] this is the only paul ws anderson movie i truly love. stargate and soldier are okay. [editline]10th March 2012[/editline] in fact pretty much every other movie i've seen that paul ws has made is incredibly bland and at best some of the movies are worth a single watch and nothing more. since netflixing the movie i've watched it like 4 times, one with commentary. [editline]10th March 2012[/editline] also the cute blonde chick is in nip/tuck and the new girl with a dragon tattoo. i agree with paul's commentary that she looks even hotter covered in blood.
Doom was fucking god awful beyond description, how can you say you enjoyed it and keep a straight face?
Postal was a better video game movie then Doom, hell its a better movie as a whole, Doom is just atrocious.
The only thing I liked about the Doom movie is when Pinky gets whacked with the chainsaw.
Doom was basically just the director being handed a couple of things associated with the games and then attempting to randomly cram them into the movie somehow so he could use the Doom name
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - 8/10 That was a sad ending :(
Watched Drive last night, pretty impressive - 8/10
Contagion - 7/10
Immortals - 7/10 The green screen was way too obvious.
Nausicaä of the valley of the wind. 8/10 Not the best movie from Hayao, but it was definitely a good movie.
Doom was fucking god awful beyond description, how can you say you enjoyed it and keep a straight face?
doom was slightly ok until the ending when the rock turned evil wtf even was that lmao
Shark Night 3D 4/10. Proof that trailers sometimes indeed are a good indication of the movie's quality.
