i dunno, the descent in the deleted ending isn't the same as at the start of the film. at the start he was just another skinhead, at the end he'd overcome it and changed so much only to fall back into his old traps, tragic and kinda futile. fits with the theme a lot better i guess, racism and that kind of stuff is a futile effort. you can change but shit'll always pull you back. it's not a happy tale and a dark ending is the only conclusive ending, the middle might be hurt but the overall message doesn't suffer.
I don't care about whether a movie is popular or not, I care about whether a movie is good or not. It's not my problem if a movie's messages, techniques, points and ways at getting those points across fall apart under the tiniest bit of scrutiny.
i really don't think they do
You think wrong. HUHEUHEHEHEUHEHE.
but i think right im always right
Me too. And to keep ontopic, the last movie I saw was the Hurt Locker. I didn't like it. In fact, I thought it was quite bad. Completely devoid of focus, a compilation of loosely-related, not particularly compelling scenes glued together into a barely cohesive whole, featuring unlikeable characters and lacking any charm whatsoever. Quite bad/10
American History X was dogshit. It made no attempt to explore the subject of racism in a serious and respectful manner, instead opting for simplistic moralising, cardboard characterisation, confused direction and every lowly faux-poetic trick in the book, from the ones in the plot itself, such as[sp]norton only friend in prison being a black man, furlong's character getting killed by a black teenager after finally realising that racism is bad etc.[/sp], to the ones in the way the film itself is shot and presented such as the extremely corny uses of slow motion and black and white cinematography, the laughably tearjerking score, the at times offensively obvious editing [sp]HEY, NORTON JUST GOT RAPED BY WHITE SUPREMACISTS, TAKE A LOOK AT THE SWASTIKA TATTOO ON HIS ARM, AREN'T WE DEEP AND CLEVER?!?[/sp], the presentation is generally overdone and devoid of any subtlety or genuine intelligence whatsoever. And for a movie so obsessed with disproving stereotypes and highlighting the pointlessness of prejudice, the movie is absolutely brimming with stereotypical characters and situations([sp]the ineffectual liberal limpdick boyfriend of norton's mother, the donut-munching cops from the story that guy tells norton in prison, norton's hardcore conservative father, damn-near every black character in the film etc.)[/sp]. American History X is a cartoon, a lazy, pointless, self-indulgent and overdone cartoon that treats its audience as if they were complete and utter morons.
it may have its ups and downs, but American History X is not dogshit. Stop having fun picking on good films just to feel superior to everyone else.
the hunger games 7.5/10 could've been better
Mars Needs Moms - 5/10
why exactly was Law Abiding Citizen bad? and how bad is Funny People, with adam sandler?
bump
The Hunger Games - 7/10 Ok movie. It really rushed through some of the parts that were more elaborated on in the book, plus all the action was super shaky and blurry.
it's supposed to start out dark and end uplifting.
[sp]the kid gets shot in the bathroom by a black kid just before turning in a report on his brother and that life shouldn't be ruled by hate[/sp] tearing down all the nazi shit and stuff, he probably wrote about that. rusty, ur kinda backwards man. the original ending was a downer by itself. well unless you hate ur little brother or something
2001: A Space Odyssey wut
I finally got around to watching Drive. I was expecting more... driving. But it was good. Also way more gory than I thought it would be. Irene was adorable. 8/10. [editline]23rd March 2012[/editline] Oh and the soundtrack was amazing.
[sp]you realize there's a deleted scene of norton taking a shower and shaving his hair or some shit like that[/sp] i like that addition to the ending better. it makes the ending much much darker and makes a bold statement that no matter what there will always be chaos, and all chaos does is create more chaos.
Absolutely horrifically wrong, the best version of the ending is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83cA9MFqgts
i think you kinda missed the point
I realize that it's part of a trilogy, and she's probably more important to the plot in the next two, but as a standalone film she seems shoehorned in in the first half. What point did I miss?

The Matrix 9/10 Still a classic. Too bad the other movies sucked.
The Hunger Games 5/10 My fuckin' head is STILL hurting from the horrendous camera. I mean damn it. And they said CLOVERFIELD was bad with the shaky cam....
The Hunger Games - 7/10 Never before has there been such a good advert for a book. It was a good film and I really liked the whole idea, but the camera man is probably Michael J Fox it was shaking so god damn much, I couldn't see what the fuck was happening in every action sequence. It also seemed to be bundled with bad choices in production and scripting, and I ended up getting confused about some aspects (what exactly do sponsors do?). But I'm picking the book up tomorrow :v:.
There is no charm when you are in the middle of warzone. I didn't think it was a bad movie. I actually liked it quite a bit. I'd say 7/10
It was a very inaccurate portrayal of the war, also it was like having blue balls for an hour and a half.
The Hunger Games Rating: 8/10 Critique: Overall, I liked it. I wasn't expecting it to be "as good" as the book in any regard, but for the most part they pulled off a solid movie. The actual Games were cool, and although a lot of the book was development of character or survival in the woods, a little more action could have been there. The fight scenes were awesome, except for the shaky camera (as noted by many. It still enhanced the scenes but it was too shaky), and I liked that they at least incorporated some gore. However, they left a few characters out like [sp]Madge and the Mayor[/sp], as well as: [sp]Katniss was saying her goodbyes, Peeta's dad didn't come in with the cookies; Rue was supposed to do the four-note whistle, because it was the call for the end of the day in District 11; Sponsors were not developed enough as noted, and should have had more background; The eyes of the wolf-hybrids at the end were supposed to be of the tributes; In the individual training things for marks where Katniss got an 11, when she shot the apple, one of the judges (who would be the next Game Master/Maker) should have fallen in the punch bowl; The mockingjay pin was supposed to be given by Madge, but she was excluded probably to not overcomplicate the story; and more that I can't think of right now.[/sp]. For what it is, it does well what it includes from the novels, and adds some other little things that make it better. While they did leave out a lot, I suppose they didn't want to overcomplicate the plot of the story, and make it so newbies to the series weren't overtly confused by the chain of events. I would definitely see the movie again, because they did do quite the good job on this one. I look forward to seeing how they interpret Catching Fire. :)
Gran Torino Rating: 9/10 Critique: Very good movie. The premise was honestly incredibly idiotic (some old guy befriends Asian guys, woohoo), but what was made out of it is genius. The movie was really suspenseful at some moments, always interesting, Clint Eastwood's performance is great and so is the performance of everyone else, and most importantly the ending is beyond everything I could have expected. I think it can be qualified as a twist ending up to a certain point and it was a very nice touch, especially as the whole scene is a direct reference to the classic spaghetti western where Eastwood always did the untouchable sharpshooter.
The premise was honestly incredibly idiotic
not really. It works.
not really. It works.
Yeah it did work out pretty well but it was a very clumsy premise to start with.
Bad boy Bubby. 0/10 oh god wheres the eye bleach at. His mother rapes him. He carries a dead cat around with him. He gropes the tits of about 5 salvation army members.
