Watched The French Connection last night.
Really cool, gritty police drama. The way it shows all the surveillance, tailing and building the case is cool and I imagine had a lot of influence on the genre (I have no idea if this was the first to do it this way, though). Gene Hackman is badass, and he and Roy Scheider go together well.
I'd heard about the car chase before, and expected it to be pretty cool but dated - it's actually brilliant, and now one of my favourites.
I'm not sure about the ending, I get what Friedkin was going for but it felt a bit abrupt.
8/10, enjoyed it very much.
Anyone seen the sequel? I got them as a double DVD pack, may watch it tonight.
I'm not sure I want to watch the sequel, the first was so good and pretty much tied it off.
I may watch it and report back with my findings, then.
Dammit, I was so close to renting "Drive" today.
Turns out that I was 8 cents short of the movie rental and the cashier wasn't going to cut me any slack.
So I guess THE FILM rental's cashier wasn't a SLACKER, eh?
be ashamed
be ashamed
Oh come on, the Pink Floyd thread has been really slow recently, haven't had anywhere to release my pun tension.
I don't follow that thread so you have no excuse

It's something along the lines of honest piracy.

I have to agree.
Anyone who rates my posts funny has to really fucking drunk.
Paul (2011)
Wasn't as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but still great
I'll give it 8/10
The Seventh Seal - 6.75/10

arghh why you never expand! I haven't seen that yet though.

Vague comment: The dialogue and scenes between the main character and Death are captivating, but everything else doesn't really hold my interest.
The Hunger Games - 8/10 (keep in mind, I bought the ticket for the dubbed version by mistake, so I can't really rate the acting)
Great visuals. At first, I thought everything looked out of place, because the movie takes itself very seriously, even though everything looks ridiculous (unlike, say, the fifth element, where it feels like the movie acknowledges it's ridiculousness), but I guess it adds to the experience, and to the feeling that they are, in fact, in danger.
Not incredibly predictable, except for the ending, I knew [sp]they'd do something to kill themselves/not want to kill each other[/sp] even before watching it. The CGI was pretty obvious, but at least it wasn't overused. As for the shaky cam, it was actually better than I expected (doesn't mean it was good), some of the scenes were hard to follow, but it isn't THAT hard to know what's going on. I only wish this movie wasn't PG-13

yeah, I know roughly about it's symbolism but nothing about the experience. Will check it out soon.
But will see Begotten tonight. Hopefully Hugo too.

Insidious - 10/10
Best comedy ever.
Seriously though this film was one of the worst I have ever seen. I literally felt like I was watching a spoof or a kid's movie. It tried to cram way too much bullshit into the last half hour and it just got really silly.
Could have been good, failed spectacularly.
2/10 because it was fun to take the piss out of it.
look. he was great and all in that movie, but a Lithuanian who speaks English with a Scottish accent. that's really fucking pushing it.
Not as much as an Egyptian with a Scottish accent and Spanish-as-fuck name (Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez).

Persona - 7.25/10
I liked it. It's one of those movies whose meaning is not exactly explicit, but it makes you think and feel. At face value, the acting and dialogue is great. It'll take a couple rewatches to fully understand it, but on the first watch, it's crazy, and that girl is crazy.
Side note: I don't really get what the montages meant or what their purpose was.
American Beauty - 9 gay_weed_dad69s/10, loved it.
watched the dark knight for the 1000th time, 10/10 as always. after repeat viewings some of the dialogue gets a bit cheesy but god damn how the fuck did Nolan make a Batman movie so fucking good. I hope tdkr has more imax scenes
