Battle Royale
Felt very Japanese-y. It was a bit ridiculous and cheesy at certain times but overall pretty good.
Planet of the Apes (Original) - 8.5/10
Reservoir Dogs - 8.9/10
I don't know what it is, but something holds it back from being a 9. I enjoyed Pulp Fiction more. Still a damn good movie though.

I sort of like the cheesyness of some movies, though it really depends
I sort of like the cheesyness of some movies, though it really depends
Well this is a movie where I don't think it was trying to be cheesy. The first part felt almost like a dark comedy at times because it was so ridiculous.
someone travel to Chile so I can see The Godfather in the cinema.
because my friends don't want to.
:(

(mmm... so they don't want to watch the godfather...
they aren't my friends anymore)

i felt the cheesy-ness comes from the insane (regarding quality and quantity) dissonance and wackiness within the movie.
i mean a bunch of innocent young adults who are barley just getting out of being a bunch of kids are pitted against each other. to the death. and the people organizing it (mainly the badass teacher dude) are extremely non-chalant about the whole thing.
what do you expect to happen? it's an extreme situation. probably one of the most i can think of. these kids probably have no training in much if anything that could be useful on the island. everyone's over reactions are in my opinion quite realistic in a way.
and if you're the kind of person who can really get into the movie the over reactions serve as a sort of hyperbole so you feel what they feel. everything needs to be sort of blown out of proportion to get the desired, extremely polarizing effect on the viewer.
[editline]24th March 2012[/editline]
and it felt like any other movie to me. i don't know what people are really talking about when they say something is really japanese-y unless the thing is loaded with pop culture and other things exclusive to japan.
if anything it felt more like a Quentin Tarantino film. just in japanese. but their culture isn't shoved in your face so it's not "japanese-y" unless you're referring to the cast's racial background and the fact that they speak a different language.
Felt very Japanese-y.
It is Japanese. Of course it's "Japanese-y".
ghost rider 2
i liked it. it was almost channeling evil dead 2
not nearly as bad as the reviews it's getting. i think it's just misunderstood.
The Matrix 8/10, never really watched it before, i'm a sucker for futuristic concepts and alternate universes so I enjoyed it. Seeing Momento not long ago the crew showing up threw me off a little :v:
The Descendants - 6.5/10
Fucking Morgan Freeman on TV at the end. Fuck yes.
The Sum of all Fears. 7.8/10
I wish Morgan Freeman was my dad so he could have read me bedtime stories as a child.

So what's your verdict.
Why the hell do you guys talk about the movie but not give it a rating.

Reviews dont need numbers.

ratings don't mean shit that's why.
He said that he enjoyed it. And made comments on why so.
I'll rate Freddy Got Fingered a 1/10 but it's still awesome.

also this
I just want to know how much he would rate it.
Because its unlikely for a movie which is known to be hated by majority people to be liked by him.

sometimes a movie is hard to sum up with a few digits

if u really want a number, hows a 7? it wasnt by any means a great movie, but it was an enjoyable movie that didn't do anything wrong. it was competently made, quite funny at times, had very well directed action and an enjoyable performance by cage as always. the special effects were strange but cool. it was just a fun, non offensive, albeit a little bit trashy movie. all in all, i think people are being overly critical of it, i think were it to be viewed as an action comedy, in the likes of crank, but slightly more evil dead, people would realise it's actually well made and a lot of fun.
[editline]26th March 2012[/editline]
one criticism though is that cage went from over the top crazy, to very subdued a lot of the time. i'd have liked a little more consistency. as in, he should have been a little crazier most of the time, but not over the top. over the top works in a few instances, not all the time. but instead of dialing it back for the majority he felt too held back. but when he did let go it was great.

heres an extension of my thoughts written by a friend who very much agree on this movie
http://reviewsbytom.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/review-ghost-rider-spirit-of-vengeance.html
rating is semi-arbitrary / relative for me. if i write about a movie the rating is almost just a gimmick.

I think it was sort of heading the right way, with that different style it has, but it didn't reach what it was aiming for, mostly because it was pg-13
it would definitely have benefited from not being pg-13. instead of people going poof into flames when he touched them he could dismember them and shit
did you watch half in the bag's review of it? apparently, the guys who did ghost rider also made crank.
it would have been so much better if it was more like crank
The Hunger Games - 8/10
Felt like a tame version of Battle Royale, though it was brutal at times, with a bigger focus on characters and story. One scene, [sp]where the young black girl died[/sp], went on way too long and felt very contrived but it was the movie's only stand out flaw in my opinion. As for the shaky cam I really wasn't bothered, not as bad as people made it out to be.

well the ridiculous things I'm referring to are mainly the amount of bullets that the people can soak up. that part was just kind of annoying, especially in the end when [sp]the teacher gets shot up point blank and is still able to calmly walk over to the phone and answer it, then shoot it perfectly on target[/sp]. Also the fact that apparently a bullet proof jacket can stop not only thousands of point blank bullets but also a slashing weapon.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - 10/10
Incredible movie. The ending is very strong.
Gattaca - 8/10
sure some of the logic is flawed and the colour scheme is kind of annoying but hnnnnnnnnnnnnng dat soundtrack
also uma thurman's role is hilarious after watching pulp fiction
The Hunger Games 8/10
I was pleasantly suprised. And I don't get why everyone is complaining about the shaky camera. I didn't even notice it (perhaps because I love Bourne movies but w/e)
Inside Job 9/10
Loved how it wasn't that in your face type of documentary. Nicely explained everything and really made me think different about the whole event.
The Muppets - 8.5/10...
One of the better films that I've seen this year, I feel all warm and fuzzy after having watched it.
The songs were all pretty Whedon-esque, I felt... definitely got a Dr. Horrible / Once More With Feeling vibe out of them.
I would totally watch a new Muppet Show.

that's exactly what i'm talking about.
how melodramatic would it have been if everyone died instantly and realistically?
Schindler's List 9/10
first time watching. Great in every aspect.
