The Secret world of Arriety, and "The Hunger Games" non-stop action.
Donnie Darko - 9.5/10 I really like this movie. I love Donnie, and Frank is a cool character. It's sad as fuck though.

50/50, 8.5/10 Really enjoyable film. Great balance of humour and seriousness at the right times.
tintin 8/10 big fat nostalgia trip here. i could only watch tintin on holidays like spring break or christmas break, any break over the week really except summer. it was on real early in the morning and i absolutely loved it. it had the right mix of everything for me comfortably. thing is i hardly ever got to see it. i still have my giant poster that's made out of wood or something. tintin rowing a boat down some tropical canal with a native. anyways the animation was a bit wonky for starters. i was high (as always) for this viewing so i could really get lost in certain parts. that even though proportions were wrong and they basically looked caricature-ish, the characters looked stunningly real at times, not to mention the motion capture was flawless. there were absolutely breathtaking scenes in this movie, but there are some shots where the animation just doesn't quite cut it. it's that stark contrast that either they left in to remind people it was animated (because some these shots were incredibly simple and had been done before or after that scene in the film in a similar way looking a lot better).. i dunno, animation could have been breath taking like in wall-e but it sort of falls up short with the lighting sometimes i guess. either way it's a nice little adventure packed into an hour and 30 something minutes. i'd recommend watching it. especially if you ever loved tintin
Mouchette 8/10 ;_; Bresson is wonderful, his stuff has this sort of honest humanity to it. this film is basically a young girl against the world, her childhood innocence being polluted by greedy, sick people. sometimes the girl acts in ways that were strange or mean but you feel like she doesn't know what else to do. the story seems almost melodramatic, like some neorealist film which I rarely like but bresson makes it work for me
Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant Finally, Nicolas Cage has gone insane. Now I don't mean in that "I'm a vampire" running through the street kindergarten crap, I'm talking about him now being beautifully insane. This movie is brilliant. It finally opens Mr Cage up for a really good character performance. I always knew Cage was crazy, even from when his name was Coppola, but now after all these years, he can rest easy. In this movie, he is probably the worst police officer you could ever imagine, but with drugs and a little back pain, his ruthlessness pays off. It's also damn hilarious. I wouldn't say it's the best movie he has been in, Adaptation is just too good. But for now, I'll say it's the best role he's been cast. Rusty, make like an iguana and go see this movie.
Gattaca (1997) Stellar film, with a beautiful message :) I also liked how the stairs in Jerome's apartment resembles a DNA helix, and how the name Jerome rhymes with genome. And of course how the word Gattaca consists of the letters a, t, g and c- DNA's building blocks.
Was about to watch this, cheers for the review.
It's not too far out, but it's so well put together.. sad to be misnoticed. It's not your average police flick in any way.

It made him seem a lot less human.
Well, I've finally decided. Akira gets an 8.8/10 Very good movie.
Submarine - 8/10

Project X It started of kind of boring, and I got the idea it was a teenage flick with fail verbal humour. But this feeling didn't last to long because the chaos in this movie gradually built up. At the end of the party it was just plainly fucking awesome. The amount of good jokes wasn't that high but the sight and feel of pure chaos utmost entertained me troughout the movie. Technically it was a no brainer of course ( Altough the sharp contrast between the silent beginning and the party was nicely done ). And the characters clearly have some simple progression during the movie. Surely it's not a masterwork: It's all very, very simple but the basic framework for a good movie is there. Also the documentary style filming wasn't all that smooth during the movie but I really liked how they integrated the cameraman as a real character in the movie. I can see why poeple dislike it tough. The silent parts were Thomas flips out were kind of boring and most of the jokes were low level and very forced. I guess it's specifically aimed at teenagers with some imagination ( Hence the extremely immoral message of the film. While in other teen movies the teens realise there are more important things in live than sex the teens in Project X don't ) But in the end I'm part of that audience; it was crazy as shit. The movie wasn't really supposed to be anything else, neither did I expect it to be. It did very good in what it tried to do.. And I was generously entertained. I'd give it an 8/10
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Nicolas Cage fucking scares me. Everytime he turns into Ghost Rider, I wan't to curl up under a blanket and cry. It was fucking disturbing. Even though it had like 4 actors that are somewhat known, the movie felt cheap. Though I must say I liked the new "realistic" take on the Rider. Even if the movie was lacking in plot and writing, I'd have to say Idris Elba and Cage Rage rocked as a drunk french warrior monk priest and the Rider, respectively. 8/10
Going to go see "The Separation" on tuesday.
One of my favourites. Surprisingly a very easily connectable foreign movie. The fact that's it is an Iranian film just blew me away because I don't think there's one Arab made movie which got recognition. The reason why this works is just how human it is. Enjoy.
I just went to see The Hunger Games. Pleasantly surprised. I somehow got the feeling it was going to be bad and I would be bored throughout the movie but quite the contrary happend. I liked the movie, the idea behind it all was good (eventhough the reason for the whole Games are still a bit unclear to me) and I liked the characters. I found it had some flaws regarding actions of certain characters but that could just be me looking for some bad points in the movie. Overall I'd give it an 8

Matchstick Men 8.4/10 and this is why Nicolas Cage is one of the most amazing actors alive 'PYGMIES!'

7/10 I thought it was a fantastic movie. It had a few parts that I didn't care for overall, but I enjoyed it.
Drive (7.5/10) It was a little slow and it felt a bit hard to connect with The Driver at times, but for the most part, I found it to be really fun to watch with some refreshing cinematography. The story worked surprisingly well too.
Shutter Island: sawitcomingfromamileaway/10
Orphan: 7/10 A pretty nice thriller. Isabelle Fuhrman is a better actress than she gets credit for and after seeing this I'm glad they chose her for The Hunger Games as well. There weren't really any loose ends that displeased me like a lot of other thrillers that try to be too symbolic and throw in random bullshit. Nothing stood out as unique but it certainly wasn't bad.
21 Jump Street: 8.5/10 Very hilarious.
