iron sky 3/10
fucking hell this movie was stupid. the script was just so bad. even purposefully silly or dumb plots need smart writing, something this movie did not have. at all.
not to mention gaping plotholes and absolutely nothing made sense. and the whole sarah palin and her advisor thing was so fuckin stupid and horrible. it was just a dated pop culture reference that should not have been a whole side story. it wouldn't have even worked as a single joke.
that said, the movie had it's moments. they were rare. it's just such a shame the rest of it was so gut wrenchingly painful to watch.
After the recent trailers I had a lot of fears that the Sarah Palin crap and everything political would be really, really stupid.
What a shame that it turned out to be true.
I really wanted that movie to be good just because of the premise.
The Avengers
8.9/10
Fun.
The Avengers - 9/10
Most enjoyable film I've seen this year. I was really surprised to see the near quarter billion dollar budget a few months ago but damn did they put it to good use. The effects were the best I have ever seen which combined with the great cinematography made the visuals top notch (very glad I didn't see it in 3D, wouldn't have been able to see shit. Seriously don't see it in 3D). The script was also very good; not grimdark and serious, which would never have worked in this kind of film, but not ridiculous either.
Perfect balance of action, sci-fi and drama.

Also it's grossed over $218,200,000 so far and it isn't even out in the US. This could be a record breaker.

Dead Man - 8.6/10
I bought this on Blu Ray today, just on a whim, turned about to be a really really good film.
The Life of David Gale
names like Nicolas Cage (producer), Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet.. also a renowned director Alan Parker (directed The Wall) made me think that nothing could possibly go wrong with this project.
But as I scroll down the page I see Ebert giving it a ZERO star rating. Something he only gives to things like Freddy Got Fingered.
I didn't read the review, but wanted to immediately find out what was so wrong about this. I liked Freddy Got Fingered because it's true to itself, it's a ridiculous surreal comedy.
This is meant to be a crime/drama okay.
Reading the premise makes it sound decent-ish. Kevin Spacey is convicted to death after being accused of rape and murder. He convinces Kate Winslet a journalist, that he didn't do it and thereafter follows "Flashbacks".
These "Flashbacks" are the ENTIRE movie, and it doesn't make sense because the flashback goes into different perspectives with no narration.
But I don't want to moan about menial things like bad acting.. poor writing.. awful camera work and the worst car chase in the history of the world.
This is just a movie, with literally NO HUMAN EMOTION whatsoever. When Kate Winslet cries about something so RETARDED, you can't help but GAWK at the screen.
Did I enjoy it? I didn't think it was a waste of time, because it's hilarious how awkward and completely empty this is.
The twist at the end is the dumbest thing I have ever seen too. And I like genuinely dumb movies, but this isn't presenting itself as a dumb movie, it's supposed to be a worthy attempt at telling people that the death penalty is wrong.
SO WHY IS THIS MOVIE THIS BAD. Kevin Spacey's face at the end of this, explains it all.
There is not ONE moment of intensity, even though it is meant to be, it's a fake taste of intensity that makes me feel ill.
Please watch this piece of shit.
"The movie begins slowly enough and then shifts into high gear with the acting of all characters involved displaying an academy award tour De force. What is created is an exciting, heart pounding, Classic drama. One which will be added to Spacey's long list of great films. Excellent and easily recommended."
Yeah I knew this would happen, that's the thing. This is a good definition of why opinions can distort the view of the actual movie.
Maybe once this idiot realises the "emotions" are for a crap cause, then he'll snap out of it.
I will never understand.
The Mist - (5,5/10)
The death of the fucking annoying cunt makes it a 7/10
Avengers 8/10
hard for me to appreciate it optimally since ive not grown up with the comics or cartoons, but it was well made nonetheless
Just wanted to say for any of you americans planning on seeing The Avengers; watch Thor and Captain America first. You will have no idea who the villain is or what the main weapon/power source is. The movie kind of assumes you have already seen them as they're not explained fully.

I went into this movie having only watched Iron Man and with a very vague understanding of Norse mythology and it took me maybe half an hour to grasp it. And that's being generous.

That's what I mean, if you've seen them you will already know everything.
Carriers (2009)

Is just Captain America enough? Too lazy to watch Thor since it'd be purely for The Avengers
Is just Captain America enough? Too lazy to watch Thor since it'd be purely for The Avengers
Thor is much better than CA. IMO that is.
This means War - 7/10
Story was alright, characters were pretty cool albeit a tad unreal (nothing too extreme going by movie standards) and the broad was an 8/10. The ending was a tad unexpected but funny nevertheless.

Thor holds way more information regarding The Avenger than CA does.

I don't think that Marvel's Thor has that much to do with real Norse mythology, though

if you're only going to see one of them, watch Thor and not CA
[editline]2nd May 2012[/editline]
not only is thor a much better movie, it also tells more about the story of the avengers
I don't think that Marvel's Thor has that much to do with real Norse mythology, though
In the sense that Thor and Loki are brothers, Loki's an evil bastard and Thor's homeboys with lightning.

Save for him saving Earth and the Destroyer coming to earth it was all pretty much spot on.

I don't know, but according to a friend, who coincidentally had a book on Norse mythology with him when he told me this, things like Asgard (he says it should be a city just like in medieval ages, not some shiny flying palace) and such were "wrong".

Those were the two I didn't see and I understood the movie completely. Are you saying this because they're american?
I don't know, but according to a friend, who coincidentally had a book on Norse mythology with him when he told me this, things like Asgard (he says it should be a city just like in medieval ages, not some shiny flying palace) and such were "wrong".
Thing with Norse mythology is that it's never consistant with small and mediocre important things. The red line will always be the same but the little things will differ per book you read. I've read about 3 versions of the Norse mythology which all depicted Asgard in different manners. Your friend could very well have been reading a version of the story which depicted Asgard as more medieval.
Those were the two I didn't see and I understood the movie completely. Are you saying this because they're american?
No, because the movie hasn't premiered in America yet, so he suggest Americans watch CA and Thor if they haven't. You'll get much more background information if you watch those before the Avengers.
Pulp Fiction 9/10

I agree. Most annoying character in a movie ever.
The Mist was a pretty good movie, her death was just icing on the cake, that and the ending.
Kill your family.
Is just Captain America enough? Too lazy to watch Thor since it'd be purely for The Avengers
you don't need to have seen either thor or captain america
it makes no negative impact on the film, or any difference at all
all you need to know is already in the avengers
I watched the Avengers without seeing Thor or CA.
Still understood everything perfectly fine.

Thor is pretty great, you should check it out
Could someone recommend me a calm "beautiful scenery" movie?
Kinda like Sideways.
