Due to the recent snow I was able to make a winter video!
What tri did you use for this?
Just thought I'd make the effort to post, as I've been a long time lurker on FP. This thread inspired me to make a quadcopter. I've currently made the following purchases from HobbyKing: Frame: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16583__HobbyKing_Quadcopter_Frame_V1.html Board: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__21977__HobbyKing_Multi_Rotor_Control_Board_V3_0_Atmega328_PA_.html I'm looking to buy a few more parts tonight, any recommendations on what the next part should be and what good ones are out on the market at the moment. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread! Thanks guys
Wow this frame looks sexy as hell. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__22397__Turnigy_Talon_Carbon_Fiber_Quadcopter_Frame.html Man, I'm almost thinking of ditching my current wooden frame.

I guess you could hide the wiring in the bars. Any ideas on some good motors? I'm looking to buy four tonight, but I'm unsure about what to get from HobbyKing.
That video was awesome, I might need to build one of these.
That video was awesome, I might need to build one of these.
Can anyone recommend any good motors/props and ESC's? Ideally, I will be doing photography or FPV.
Caught a bug on the camera lens! On Youtube this time rather then Vimeo, just testing it.

Got cash in my account again. Time to get the finishing parts. I need some plugs and cables to make my own "power distribution" system (basically a bunch of cables soldered together). I need it so that all my ESC will get enough power. I think I posted a image of such a thing a few posts back. I also need batteries to power the system. I don't know how much amperes the finished copter will take but since the motors are on the range 4A ~ 12A, I'm going to assume worst case and get assume that they operate on 12A all the time which is 48A plus some peaks. So the battery needs to be able to withstand that load. The batteries Dokaman linked were nice, but they were out of stock so I'm looking at other alternatives. After all that, I need some servo cables to hook the receiver to the control board.

Oh and the two or three times I had to pay an additional 30% tax is not included in the total.
What are the servo's for?
Oh those are cables. It's for connecting the radio controller receiver to the quad copter control board. [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] Like the ones Supacasey linked a few posts back, but male to male and a bit longer (and cheaper).
Unless your control board and reciever use female connections, which I highly doubt, those're the wrong cables. They have to be female to female. [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] Unless you're using them for extensions or something.

[editline]26th February 2012[/editline] Unless you're using them for extensions or something.
I think they mix the words up. They call it male, while it technically is a female connector. So yeah yours would have worked too, but they were a bit expensive. [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] I think it's because the plugs in the picture are inserted into the female(actual male) plugs, which has resulted in calling the above plugs males. I know you probably said this a few pages back, but what's the range of the receiver? You thinking of getting a GoPro or anything similar to play around with?
my dad got into these after helicopters. [t]http://i.imgur.com/lUKv0.jpg[/t] xaircraft x650 aurora 9 transmitter wookong gps and a camera mount with a gopro
I know you probably said this a few pages back, but what's the range of the receiver? You thinking of getting a GoPro or anything similar to play around with?
The range depends on a lot of things, like where you are, if there are tall buildings all over the place and so on. Here's a guy saying he's managed to reach 3+ km. It's in Spanish I think so use Google translate. http://www.e-voo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=104859 Some other guy here states 1.4 km in a RC forum and some other says 1000 - 2000 feet. So I have no idea actually. And yes I'll definitely put up some camera on it when I get it flying.

Flew my FPV Easy Star for the first time today, first time flying FPV in general. That was scary as hell. I started in a local park, but ended up going over some neighborhoods, over an adjoining freeway, over a bunch of people playing soccer, over an adjoining golf course... The whole time sweating bullets, worried that something might fall off or that the camera battery would run out while it was out of my line of sight. But by far the scariest part was trying to land it without rolling the wing and ending up with the camera in the dirt. [IMG_THUMB]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48140447/20120226_144450.jpg[/img_thumb]
I would stay the fuck away from freeways / cars and houses if I were you
I would stay the fuck away from freeways / cars and houses if I were you
I wasn't exactly playing chicken with them, I was at least a good 200 feet above everything.
Well if it landed in someones yard and they were home to see it, it might get swiped. And the freeway, god forbid the batteries die...
Lets be honest, I didn't spend a buttload of money and time on a setup like this just to do circles in the park, I'm gonna get a little adventurous. That's pretty much the whole point. [editline]26th February 2012[/editline] My OSD also tells me how much voltage I have left in my flight battery so that's not an issue, and now that I've flown with the camera battery I know how long it lasts so I can just start a timer on my radio to tell me when I should head back.
well that's why you go out to the country, having it smash into a moving car or a power line is not a good thing

They live on an adjacent street, and what they did was hop the fence, dismantle it and walk off with it piece by piece. All I have left is the clutch bell.... It's gonna be my spy-drone. Fly it at night, with infrared LEDs (like these) and a camera that can switch to black and white for night time viewing. Hobbyking wont let me backorder the Turnigy 9x, and the shit I ordered last week still isn't here yet. I'm impatient.
Hobbyking wont let me backorder the Turnigy 9x, and the shit I ordered last week still isn't here yet.
