Also, why isn't this brought to the front page in GD when it's bumped? I have to do a Google search whenever I look for the thread.
Topics in GD are ordered by creation date rather than last post. Click "last post by" twice to get the normal view. Or, just click "read" to find this thread. You could also just bookmark it.

That's really cool I use the same straps on all of my stuff.
I was also having that problem where I couldn't find this thread :(
Has anyone tried combining a computer controlled multi-copter and one of those 3D laser scanners? That would make a sweet combination and they would be like those scanning robots in Prometheus

Holy shit, you could use an ardupilot 2.5 and remotely map the inside of a building. Wow, that would be awesome.

That's what I've been thinking, it would be pretty fucking badass. I can see it having tonnes of applications in Urbex
Does anyone know of a store in the same pricerange as hobbyking? I don't want to order there because of the long shipping times.
I live in the Netherlands so any shop close would be cool.

There's a UK Hobbyking which is closer to you I guess. Things comes a lot quicker how ever they don't hold as much stock as the Hongkong based one.
I see, thanks. Do you have any tips or recommendations regarding radio's?
And by that I mean, I need a cheap one :v:
Also, Why is every single cool frame not in stock at hobbyking
Wtf why aren't my posts merging

My Turnigy 9x is pretty good I think, but I've really only used it with my tricopter, though it has modes for planes, gliders and helicopters. It cost me about 70 USD.

Spektrum controllers are really good, you can get them cheapish on eBay but they are hugely reliable and you can controll EVERYTHING on them (planes, multicopters, helis) and use it for up to 10 different models.

Thanks, I'll look into that.
Meanwhile my frame has finally been shipped.

Nice! I've had that frame in the past, it's really good if you put it together properly. The legs have springs on that enable them to take a blow if you land rough but what usually happens is you land rough, the spring breaks and the leg just flops around. You can of course strengthen it!
The kit takes a few hours to build for a novice builder and it flies really well!
2 weeks later, My X525 frame has finally arrived!

How are you finding it? Any updates?
My first flight with a camera on board (3rd in total)

Well here's my copter. A bit on the large side of things. I want to build a small beater copter that's not as hard to repair. I call it the Xari 3 becuse why not!

The video system is 900 MHz but one of the antennas is broke. Now I have to spend 100$ to build an SWR meter to find out which one.........

Why not just make two new antennas for the price of wire?
Long winded post sorry but I hope I answered most questions, if you do have anymore about anything please reply here! Thanks
What are the model names for the little Quads?
EDIT: Well found it " UDI U816." Where did you order it, most places are $35-40.
I could make two new antennas and that would be the cheaper option. The nice thing about the SWR meter though is that I could use it to tune antennas. The frequencies it could tune would depend on the directional coupler I can find on ebay.
But it would be much cheaper to rebuild them. Although I really don't want to redo both, they were a pain in the ass to make.....
Not sure witch option I'll take, working on other stuff at the moment.
Anybody got any idea how I can make my copter a bit more stable? I am using the KKBoard 2.0, and the copter generally moves pretty jerky, and often keeps drifting towards one direction. Could it be that my center of gravity isn't spot on? How critical is the centering?
Have you tired tuning all the PID values? They make the biggest impact.
wow, i need one NOW!!
[editline]5th March 2014[/editline]
do you realise that is an exellent recognition device?
Does it really count as a bump if GD is sorted by date created and not last post? Anyway, I ordered myself an HKPilot 2.5 master set along with a bunch of stuff to fix my easystar clone (the shitty off brand motor came apart in a particularly hard landing). I think I'll set up my tricopter with the autopilot first, considering I'm too shitty of a pilot to get a decent flight with it yet. Hopefully I can start to learn to fly a bit better with some of the stabilization modes.

Hopefully the parts will get here by Wednesday.
This thread isnt strong, but its such a fun hobbies.
Fpv sure is expensive but feels rewarding when you get used to it.
I recently got myself a full basic setup for about 500$, you dont have to get a 3-400$ radio controller for that, i got myself a 60$ radio, and mod its transmitter to make it UHF 433mhz for 40$, with the right antenna, i can fly up to 20km, but getting that range with video is harder.
OSD (On screen display) can also be expensive, like 100-150$ without a autopilot.
But i got myself a crappy 22$ OSD, i tried it and recorded it with a DVR
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09oMbIdFTiw
Its crap, but with with some soldering and a USBASP, i managed to make it like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i84cK2PcctQ
Its all about little thing that could make you be able to do FPV flight that wont cost you thousands.
Nice video quality! What frequency is it on? Also what model DVR did you use? They can get pricey!
I just started building a bi-copter. I was thinking of making a build thread for it under hardware and soft ware. Think I should go for it?
Edit:
Well the first set of parts came in. The big box is hobbyking.
Got the motors and battery's, servo's as well from hobbyking. I few misc stuff as well. Digikey box is landing LED's. Other box is black flotation foam. Then the small envelope is the 12 volt el wire inverter.
Still need to order fiberglass to make the frame witch is about 50% done design wise.

My video transmitter is a Boscam 5.8ghz at 600mw, using a 600mah 3s lipo to power the camera and Transmitter.
Im using this monitor
http://www.surveilzone.com/boscam-rc800-5.8ghz-32ch-wireless-receiver-7-inch-non-blue-monitor-dvr-cm1129
Its pretty much all in one groundstation, monitor, DVR and 5.8ghz high sensitive video receiver, you can get them seperated, but what is important is that you get a screen that doesnt have blue screen, only snow, because if you loose signal, then screen would turn blue and you will be completly blinded.
You can make a thread if you want, this one is done for.
What are your setup?
Im using a Flying wing, its wingspan is 1550mm, Sony c1333 super ham camera (30$), 5000mah 3s lipo battery for motor, receiver, GPS module and OSD, Im gonna get a dipole UHF antenna for radio control.

And thats how i fit my groundstation.
