I've always wanted to have a go with RC aircraft, awesome video in the OP has persuaded me.
Some of those people in the video are dicks, trying to swat it from the sky and throwing shit at it.
I have a Blade MCX2 little bastard is fun. [editline]7th October 2011[/editline] It's a little dusty because i haven't flown it for a couple months...
Very awesome. My dad and I have been interested in this for a while
If someone could post a startup guide that would be awesome :)
If someone could post a startup guide that would be awesome :)
1. build helicopter 2. fly

Bumping this thread because I'm hopefully going to build a quadcopter. Currently have received the control board. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__19534__HobbyKing_Quadcopter_Control_Board_V2_Atmega168PA_.html Which is a "copy" of a more expensive board, but I've heard good things about the HK board, plus I'm a beginner with limited wallet. Currently waiting for: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16583__HobbyKing_Quadcopter_Frame_V1.html The frame I'm going to use. It's premade out of plywood and glass fiber. Needs to be assembled and glued. I think it looks sturdy and with a price like that it's quite a good deal. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11331 And some neat propellers. Must be CCW rotating and CW rotating. Total right now is about 40 bux or 60 with shipping. I'm not ordering everything in one go so it's going to be a little bit more expensive that I've expected due to shipping.
That kid in the video trying to hit the helicopter with a football was a douche.
Almost everyone in the video wanted to destroy that thing. Very violent place to live.

It'd be nice to see what works for you because I don't want to spend too much as well.
Seems to be like a fun hobby. I'm majoring in aerospace engineering so I might learn a thing or two
Doesn't germany have a huge market for these things, leading to them coming with super intelligent AI setups, as far as I remeber those are even able to remain perfecty still and do loads of spy suff.
You guys should consider attaching a speaker of some sort so that you can talk to people on the other side of the camera and say hello!
You guys should consider attaching a speaker of some sort so that you can talk to people on the other side of the camera and say hello!
That camera isn't even wireless.
What is the flight time like? Are you sacrificing endurance or the massive increase in stability?
I am building one quadrocopter as graduation project with a classmate. We are building one form the Mikrokopter project. It should have combined engine power of nearly 1.5kW and include GPS navigation and all that shit. If I am supposed to graduate, it means you guys will probably get full documentation and some HD videos captured using that thing.
Would love to attach a mechanism from the electronic Nerf Vortex gun, modified enough to fire a couple of clips of the disks... Oh, and then speakers for playing Rise of the Valkyries or the Imperial March
Jeez... Get a better camera.
I USED to fly helicopters (RC), until my best one dunked in a pond. Kinda my fault, showing off and it got snagged on some reeds, I managed to get it back in the air then it began spinning because of fucking pondweed in the back rotor. It slammed into a wall, smashed and flopped on the floor. What was bed was a mouse was in the helicopter. It lived. Just.

Although it is advised to add more glue to the joints so I did that. I did not mount the landing support because it looked really fragile. I'm thinking of making my own instead. And I skipped the camera mount as well since right now I'm not focused in photographing with it. It's probably not worth a photo but here it is. Frame, props, and the control board. I know the sofa is ugly, but I think it gives you an idea of how big it is. This is basically the brain. Handles everything from control to stabilizing the thing in the air. Now I need to read up on motors. Needs to have rather slow rpm/v so that I can steer it. Then comes the electronic speed controllers. After that I will take a look at batteries, transmitter and receiver. And some other stuff. Will probably update in 2 weeks. Edit: I'm thinking of perhaps using this as the platform for my bachelor's degree project (year 2014 :v:). Perhaps use the arduino and some GPS shield if possible.
Where did you buy the frame?
Check the top post on this page.
Someone make a step by step tutorial for this!
I wanna get one of these and attach a speaker with these messages LOL
Someone make a step by step tutorial for this!
Well if you follow my posts once I'm finished it'll become almost like a step by step tutorial. Although if you really want to build one already now, I suggest asking Dokaman.
I'm thinking about building one of these to get rid of all my free time, hell I need to do something else instead of play games, it looks like a ton of fun as well. I definitely want to put a decent camera on it though, I want to make it into a somewhat decent UAV :D
the range on that remote is INCREDIBLE [editline]26th November 2011[/editline] if i ever make one of these i will paint it red with a white cross on it and have it yell "evacuate now!"
I seen this one multicopter you drive with an iPhone or whatever and you fight another one

I would love to try building one of these but I don't want to start and find out it gets really expensive or something.
