How's the quad going Swebonny?
I haven't been doing anything as I'm kinda low on money. Will order some new parts in a few days.
I haven't been doing anything as I'm kinda low on money. Will order some new parts in a few days.
What are you going to use as the frame? Buying or making?
He already bought one...Read the thread
I must say this thread sparked my interest on multi-copters, I have been reading a lot on the subjects on multiple forums and it seems far more hobbyfriendly as I remember them costing a lot more back 3-4 years. Quad Or Tri that is the question ahah.
Seems to be like a fun hobby. I'm majoring in aerospace engineering so I might learn a thing or two
:D Me too! Our Design Build Fly has a couple of these laying around the lab, maybe I can convince someone to fire it up one week.
For forty freaking dollars it gets the job done. I think Swebonny and most other first timers are looking to get it done cheap the first time.
Yes, i bough that controller so i can save money and mod it then being FPV ready. With a telemetry. Does any shop sell something i can plug into my laptop to control and FPV with? That would be badass.
Dokaman, could you detail the $150 FPV build you mentioned earlier?

It's got two cameras that send a live feed back, and a in built scanner to determine how high it is at all times and control the auto pilot (The thing that keeps it in the one spot, even when it's windy) I know it's not as cool because I didn't build it, but it's still damn awesome. I have to make a movie for my media class for school this year. I'm going to attach my brothers iPhone 4s (1080p) camera to it and get some pretty cool aerial shots.
Aren't those expensive as fuck?
$400 I think. They're for rich kids who suck at making things :v:
That was a great video and has convinced me to try building one of these. The people waving to it was great, just stick a big smiley face on the front. Funny how people are so against big-brother-esque security measures but are happily waving to what is essentially a spy drone.

It's kinda different y'know, a flying piece of plywood doesn't scream "big brother". I'm now equipped with a fully capable ground station. Futaba 9c with a 2650 lipo, Dragonlink UHF system, and a custom mount to attach a 7" screen with a hood. A 3.5" screen with a hood. Fatshark goggles with a X-Gyro 1000 head tracker. Two Lawmate 1280 video RX's. A tripod mounted 3 turn helical antenna. A Range Video micro diversity controller. A Jetview DVR. And an Onvon powered video splitter. How did I afford what I didn't make myself? [sp]I sold some hats in TF2.[/sp]
What's the best cheap camera to use (doesn't need to be FPV compatible). I know a lot of people use gopros, but I'd like something cheaper for now.

Do you gentlemen have any leads on hardware to stream high-definition footage over 2 miles for an aerial platform? Weight and size are not as limited as they would be for quad copters. My research seems to show long-range WiFi as being the only reasonable option.

This is so awesome. I know what I'm going to do once I'm done with FIRST.
Finally the Turnigy 9x is in stock. Just ordered it. Got some mad cash in my account right now, yeea

I wouldn't use that circular plastic thingy (tupperware?) for skids, as you can see that'll make it roll around a bit on takeoff and landing.
I wouldn't use that circular plastic thingy (tupperware?) for skids, as you can see that'll make it roll around a bit on takeoff and landing.
It's just taped onto backside with a bit of bothsided tape, and it's a random box we found in the workshop. The actual gear will hopefully be skids, and it's hardening, in the workshop, right now :v:

So I'm building a tricopter from this guide, I was wondering if it would be a good idea replace the 10 by 10mm pine arms with the same size of square aluminum tubing? It would be a tad heavier, but I could hide the wires inside, and I think that it would be sturdier in case of a crash.
