I am terribly sorry if this is old news, but I just came across this video and if multi-copters weren't awesome enough before, they are now. Unfortunately, they are just the product of a university's testing and are not for sale.
Damn, that's fucking cool. I wish they would sell them so I could buy loads of them to carry me around. [editline]4th February 2012[/editline] Though it's fun and games until they move into attack formation.

I'm pretty sure you can get a much cheaper camera
That plane's going to be fairly shit for FPV. Internal servos in what's already a small form factor means extremely limited space for components. If you have to get an RTF from HK, get the Bixler. It's essentially an Easy Star/Sky Surfer clone that comes with a brushless motor and ailerons, and has plenty of internal space for storage. [editline]6th February 2012[/editline] On a related note, I've been fairly busy on my own Easy Star. [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/48140447/20120205_150935.jpg[/img_thumb]
I just got an email that the Turnigy 9x was in stock, and when I looked, it was backordered again. Perhaps they should catch on that people want this transmitter, and order more...

I have seen it in action, it's huge fast and powerful. Plus it can carry a shit load of equipment. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__19335__Skywalker_FPV_1680mm_ARF_.html

Their business model is slightly different from other online sellers (such as Amazon), they just order a set number of items as a trail and if they work they order more. I don't think they can produce them fast enough to keep up with demand.
Alright so here is my final list before i could buy. Transmitter mod. Own a Turnigy 9x. Including wire and other little thing?
Doesn't look like it. I'd still say look for a cheaper camera
Keep in mind that flying FPV outside of your eyesight is illegal in some countries. Sweden is an example.
Keep in mind that flying FPV outside of your eyesight is illegal in some countries. Sweden is an example.
Unless of-course you have a spotter that can see your plane!
Is fpv cheaper with a fixed wing plane?
Is fpv cheaper with a fixed wing plane?
Depending on what plane you go for, although typically it will end up being more expensive. Planes are easier to FPV though, you are always going forward, you can glide and they will be up in the air longer.
What kind of laws are in place in the UK regarding FPV except for radio frequencies obviously?
Unless of-course you have a spotter that can see your plane!
Using another plane!
Using another plane!
Exactly ;) and try proving that someone didn't have a spotter.
What kind of laws are in place in the UK regarding FPV except for radio frequencies obviously?
Apart from the radio frequencies law's there's no others. Having a spotter at all times is just a suggestion. Although there is a group of people trying to pass laws that will put rules in place.

i had a smile on my face the whole time while watching this. this is really something i would love to build. [editline]12th February 2012[/editline] how much would it cost to build a reasonable flying vehicle like the one in that video? is it hard to assemble and do all the electronic mumbo jumbo? [editline]12th February 2012[/editline] I dont even know where i would start on something like that
Have you saw the Skywalker? It's just like the Easy Star but bigger. I have seen it in action, it's huge fast and powerful. Plus it can carry a shit load of equipment. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__19335__Skywalker_FPV_1680mm_ARF_.html
Seen it, but for my next platform I'll probably go with the Multiplex TwinStar 2. Seeing the motors on each wing as you pan the camera must be great. Speaking of which, the only component I'm missing is the TBS 69 camera that I ordered two weeks ago. International shipping times are a bitch. Back to my Easy Star, I added some aluminum landing gear with a steerable tail wheel. Next is to flatten the wings and add ailerons.
Alright so here is my final list before i could buy. Is there EVERYTHING i need to make it works? Including wire and other little thing?
First thing that sticks out to me is that you'll most likely have to buy a harness to connect the video Tx, cam and battery. If I were you I wouldn't piece together parts like that from so many different vendors. Try going to www.readymaderc.com, that's where I'm getting most of my parts from. Doing so would better the odds of finding something compatible with what you're buying. They sell pre-organized complete sets as well.

[editline]12th February 2012[/editline] I dont even know where i would start on something like that
The one in the video is a tricopter designed by this guy: www.rcexplorer.se I am currently in the process of building one, and I expect to spend about 200 dollars. [editline]13th February 2012[/editline] In related news, I ordered my Hobbyking KK board clone, my motors and my props today. Also, it wouldn't let me backorder the Turnigy 9x.

What, RMRC? How so? If you mean the preloaded Easy Star setups yeah those're overpriced but he doesn't sell them anymore anyway.
Due to the recent snow I was able to make a winter video! Results:
:v:
OP should attach some sirens to one of his multicopters and scare the shit out of people, or sound it off when people try to hit it like in the video
Pepper;34703299'] :v:
I didn't draw that! It's in the middle of a frozen lake, I tried to walk on and fell through the ice :(
Fetched the Turnigy controller yesterday. Time to order the batteries and hook everything up. I'm expecting everything to be finished in a month :D
