See the problem with your idea saying 'you' are the only consciousness is bullshit. Why? Because I'm the only consciousness. By the by: I thought of this a long time ago, but then again no shit cause I'm the only one that actually thinks.
Yeah. Okay. But I know for a fact you're wrong. :smug: Then again... you know for sure I'm wrong.
sometimes i try to think about shit like that, but i know nothing about anything so i end up looking stupid. :(

you didnt think of any of this, these things have been said many times by many different people and nobody truly understands conciousness and they never will.
This was very insightful, glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks about these kinds of things. Also, this is a thread you do NOT want to read while listening to "Strawberry Feilds Forever". I did, and it's creepy.

This thead made me think. When we make an AI, isn't that technically the same as making actual intelligence? How is it different from the human brain? Both gain inputs and analyze them to create outputs. If there is no difference, then we are already quite capable of creating life from inert matter. (Also, it means that video games are not simulations at all. We are mass murderers, although the AIs feel no pain unless programmed to do so.)
Not quite. God is a construct that, regardless of it's existence, affects the minds and decisions of millions of people. Thinking about what it is and what it means is important when it's truthiness is already taken as a given by so many people. This consciousness bullshit is just bullshit circular double talk.
Yes, but God is only a product of peoples need to explain the unknown. In this case, the meaning of life. What I said is that discussion God will not GET YOU ANYWHERE, I did not say he does not affect peoples lives and thoughts, because everything does it as I have stated all the time in more or less every post. Your acts, thoughts and everything you do is affected by what you know and what you see, smell, hear, feel blablabla. Of course religion and God, big bang, Buddah and whatever is a part of the experience and knowledge that one has harvested throughout life. But no, it is not actually important to think about it at all, we just feel like it is because we want it to be true, or wrong. Because the more "proof" or "bullshit" one can gather about it the stronger the positive or negative feelings towards it will strenghten. You are all just a part of my illusion. In other words, you are all me in different shapes and forms. I am but only arguing with the different parts of my brains that have different points of views. This will also mean that I am you, because you are me.
sometimes i try to think about shit like that, but i know nothing about anything so i end up looking stupid. :(
Does not matter. Just think about it and try to find something YOU find logical. Express your thoughts you have found and if someone tells you something different and you believe it then you will now have a different understanding of things. Keep on going like this and you will get a much more stable and well thought out THEORY. There is no answer known, so do not worry about sounding dumb because the others may be wrong too, hell, maybe you are right just that more people have belief in something else and that is looked upon as a more believeable truth just because of the ammount of believers. For us it would only be some pixels moving around doing what it is told to do based on the code. But that isn't really different from us. But since we can not physically touch it and we can infact look into it's mind and see how it works 100% we do classify it to only be a simulation. But the program is conscious from it's own point of view.
This thread has made me lose all sense of realism and makes me want to kill myself now because there are so many unsolvable mysteries in here. I think my conscience is triggering me to stop reading because it doesn't want me to observe my own mind. Perhaps the conscience IS god. Perhaps when we percieve the world it is in completely different ways but are accepted as the same because it is interpreted in the same way. For you the color red could look green, but since you see red as green and green as red your whole life it means the same. Ugh, im tripping.
This poser only offers two possible answers: A) There is only ONE "force of consciousness" in the universe. And since I thought of it and I'm writing this, that would make it me. If that was true, I would be the only truly conscious being and everything else around me (including you people) is no more real than stage props in a play; that act as I would and acknowledge themselves as conscious beings, because that's what a conscious being would do.. I don't like that solution, because that is a really scary thought.
Tat Tvam Asi A very old philosophy (5000+ years old) but quite interesting.
B) There is no such thing as consciousness. Your interpretation of "you" is nothing but an elaborate illusion created by your brain. therefore, you have no consciousness, you are simply acting exactly as your brain is programmed to, you are at par with creatures that also have no "consciousness" (as we interpret it), like jellyfish, ants, bees, etc. You simply act as your brain is supposed to act, our brains just do it in a more elegant form. If B is true, that means you actually have no free will, everything is as linear as: Point A --------------to------------- Point B Because all your thoughts and actions are just the produce of some electrical signals that your brain evolved to make.
Linearity is just a realization of limited thinking and to simplify things. A lower level of consciousness IMO. Its like Maya or Matrix. Even our thoughts have feedback loops !
C) The standard "it was GAWD."
So what is God ? How do you define it ? If we go by the simple definition then God is said to be Omniscient and Omnipotent. Logically it means that it needs to be Omnipresent too. God according to me is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH. And for that it should be true in every space time coordinate. Of course I do not believe in a ridiculous theory of some old guy watching us from above the clouds.
I personally believe that consciousness once created cannot be undone, and due to the fact that consciousness in the physical sense is energy whizzing around your neurons and down the nervous system yet contained in your body. I believe that once death occurs consciousness becomes independent and thus has a slight ability to affect matter due to the fact that it is energy thus explaining simple phenomena such as things flying off the table. I believe consciousness at our level is relatively undeveloped and there are many other types of consciousness in this world. One of which I personally believe to be what some would call "God". [editline]03:12PM[/editline] As well let me add that belief in god does not mean conformity to the dogma of whatever religions arose out of human society, as it is nothing but observation and conclusions that others have taken. Celebrate diversity and accept the possibility, rather than the reality.
