absolutely wrong You have to pay lots of money for photoshop on either OS. iMovie is not only not included on most macs (you have to purchase iLife), but it is also so horrible that it's no different than WMM. I don't consider either to be a plus. It has a vastly inferior catalogue of games, so I don't really see why you're listing the games under a positive for OSX And what do you mean by "media management"?
I meant that it could run any of those right out of the box. Smaller netbooks or some lesser-powered windows machines can't run any of those, but I don't know a single current generation mac that can't.

Therefore a $1200 mac laptop is superior. If you compare products in the same price range, they can both run the same software perfectly well.

Besides, I prefer Windows over OSX, but it does have a lot of stuff pre-installed such as Garage Band, iTunes, and other good media managing stuff such as iLife. Some people like those programs, and would prefer for them to be ready-installed, even though I would personally enjoy being able to install all my own things.
And you bought it from Apple? That's weird, all macs are supposed to come with iLife.
Yeah I did, but maybe it had to do with the fact that they are laptops, not desktops?
wat
See my correction. I meant that any apple machine can run that sort of stuff out of the box. Macs aren't for the "power users", they are marketed toward the everyday people, and occasionally the rouge graphic artist. Anyone buying a mac knows that a piece of software pre-installed on something prior would work on the one they would buy.

Both windows and OSX have most of what is included in iLife, besides garageband, which isn't very useful. A real sound designer would never use garageband, and your average everyday mac user wouldn't either. [editline]20th September 2011[/editline]
See my correction. It would be photoshop, and that costs extra money and supports both OS's
See my correction. I meant that any apple machine can run that sort of stuff out of the box.
So can Windows?
do you realize that there is nothing on OSX for a graphic artist? It would be photoshop, and that costs extra money and supports both OS's
A graphic artist is someone who isn't necessarily good with computers and software in general, and wants to know that his platform for drawing won't crash on him and will work swiftly and easily. When I used a Mac, I never had any problems with the speed. It runs great, and that's all a graphic designer needs. He can just pop in his disk of CS4 and start drawing away without a worry. People like you and I like to have their specifics, their modded systems. Most people using macs for drawing and art don't care about those details.
So can Windows?
Yes, but the typical Mac user wants to know that their software will work on any machine without worrying about their specs or RAM usage.
Yes, but the typical Mac user wants to know that their software will work on any machine without worrying about their specs or RAM usage.
Unless you're buying a second hand laptop from 2007, it'll run Photoshop no problem. We're not talking about the Hardware we're talking about the OPERATING SYSTEM. You're saying if you use OSX you don't have to worry about things working swiftly. Bullshit, it's like saying an Xbox is better than a computer because you don't have to worry about things running slowly.

I never said Macs or Windows were better, I'm saying that different people use them for different reasons! No one in their right mind would use OSX for developing Windows applications, and most sane people would never create Mac exclusive programs on a Windows computer. It's all preference and different usage. Most people use Windows because it fits them right (AKA me, and most people on this forum).
Yeah I did, but maybe it had to do with the fact that they are laptops, not desktops?
I own a MBP and I got it; all macs, desktop or laptop, are supposed to have it. It should have also come with a disk to reinstall it in your box.
Real quick for the people that like mac osx better why not get a pc and add there osx instead of spending so much on a mac? you will be saving so much money.
Have you thought that people actually like a nice-looking computer? Macs are sexy as hell, that's part of the why they cost so much more.
Have you thought that people actually like a nice-looking computer? In fact you can make your pc look nice even if it isn't mac with more options.
The only advantage that OSX has over anything is that it's obnoxiously simple. There's really nothing else that makes it good, and I would have to say that Windows is superior.

Alienware is pretty much the Mac of the Windows world with the "looks" and overpriced stuff.

if apple expanded osx out to systems other than their own so you don't have to do the hackintosh clusterfuck to get it on a PC i would use it [editline]20th September 2011[/editline]
pictures of laptops
what was the point of that
I like the bottom one more personally.
Real quick for the people that like mac osx better why not get a pc and add there osx instead of spending so much on a mac? you will be saving so much money.
Because Hackintoshs suck as you don't get the full intentional of an Apple computer as well it'll be pretty buggy and unstable because most of the time the drivers wont be official and you get no support.

I love and use both, but if OSX had more applications then it would beat the shit out of Windows and I'd use my mac at all times. My main problem with windows is the terrible UI. There has been a lot of improvements, but Microsoft is still terrible at innovation and design. OSX is soft on the eyes, and makes working on it a real pleasure. Also, macs have SUPERB screen quality. The colors are amazingly nice. I'm so pissed 3DSMax isn't working on OSX.
-snip-
I admit it looks pretty, sleek, and cool. But I'll spend my money on the laptop with more performance.
I was looking in a store catalogue thing today, and side by side was an HP laptop and a Mac. They both had 4GB memory and about the same level of integrated video, however, the Mac had 320GB of HD space, and the HP had 640. The HP had a dual core processor, mac only single core (both i5), the HP had 2 hours longer of battery life and the screen was ~2.5 inches more. The prices? Mac: ~$1200, HP: ~$350.
That can't be right, unless there was a sale. Apple markup is obscenely high, but not that high.
not just osx, but mac products in general tend to keep you on a leash and restrict your options a lot more in the name of simplicity and ease of use itunes is an example of this

There is no way to get windows to look like OSX, simple as that. You cannot no matter how hard people try, you can probably get somewhat close I guess, but it's a very hack-y thing to do. There is no "real" support for completely changing lots of fundamental things on windows like how they look besides color and how transparent the stuff is.
