Friend just gave me an unopened Visorak's Gate set for New Years. Haven't built an old set in a long time.
Friend just gave me an unopened Visorak's Gate set for New Years. Haven't built an old set in a long time.
I had that set, kept it on a hard plastic tray (Figures don't stand well on carpet). I one day left it out and my younger sister destroyed it (And so many other sets, I will never forgive her). Never put it back together sadly. I loved the minifig scale Visorak and recycle them into other adventures.
I got Onua for Christmas, how the frick does he put that hammer together when his arms can't reach each other?
So my mother bought an original sealed 2001 Gali, and I found it (along with some original unopened Jurassic Park toys) in the attic today. It is now my goal to collect the original 6 toa in sealed condition.
Supposed leaks of the summer sets: http://i.4cdn.org/toy/1452809874794.jpg http://i.4cdn.org/toy/1452809997898.jpg http://i.4cdn.org/toy/1452810094216.jpg http://i.4cdn.org/toy/1452810273025.jpg http://i.4cdn.org/toy/1452810350405.jpg Grab them while you can, 4chan links go down often as far as I know.
Interesting to see Ekimu pumped up. My quest to collect the 6 original toa it turns out is really expensive. Original Pohatu ran me $40 after shipping, and it doesn't get better. Kopaka, Tahu, and Lewa go for $60-$80. Onua is about $50.
Collecting old bionicle feels like preserving ancient relics, these sets can be old as fuq and many were gone and unrecoverable after being scraped for parts, lost and or tossed out. I want to get all the sets I had as a kid before I was dumb and tried to make shitty MoCs but it's gonna cost hundreds of dollars I don't have meanwhile the supply and prices get more drastic with the day.
That's exactly the issue, the original toa are wildly expensive, and since I don't have income right now, I can't just get them all in one go and call it a day. Nobody was selling Gali on eBay so already having her is a lucky break.
I feel kinda lucky to still have my original Toa Gali and Tahu in one piece, but I know I used to have others when I was a kid... shame it's so tempting at that age to just strip 'em for parts as the new sets come out.
Pohatu is the only one I have left to buy. I had Tahu and Gali originally in 2001, got Onua, Lewa and Kopaka in a cheap bundle on Ebay last year. I only had to replace a piece in Lewa left arm (the little cross/cylinder connector) to a more sturdy one to keep his arm from flopping around. Man, I still remember that night when a friend of the family just gave me the Happy Meal Jala. That's where it all started. Bionicle was and still is the base for my creativity.
Hearing the problems with collecting old Toa feels slightly bizzare for me since I've kept my collection of the Toa Mata/Nuva in pretty good condition (though I wish I could find new legs for Tahu Nuva, his ankle joints have lost a lot of their friction), and I even have several duplicates/spare parts from my thrift store runs. Hell, I have my Onua packed in an original canister with little poster and instructions and everything (sans promo CD, I never found any Toa sets with those). Really surprises me that I could be sitting on some good money with them.

I already have 4 of the Toa Mata, but I don't have cans or manuals for them, and the parts are really worn from play.

Shoulda kept what they had for those online shorts
Netflix series is up
I like the sort of almost borderlands style they've got going on, personally. But will the series actually have a cool plot with cool characters and cool goals? We'll have to see.
I miss the older bionicles, toa mahri were one of my favorites
Oh.
God fucking DAMNIT. They didn't even bother releasing a makuta set.
At least we got season two of Journey to One
Well...I only can agree with you. At least it was a decent ending. [sp]also it was quite "open", considering that they say at the end "They will return". I guess it doesn't rule out the option for a return/reboot in the future.[/sp]
at least i actually bought some of the sets. STILL need to get the ones from 2016 though.
So they're ending the theme with a contest to build your own Makuta model. Prizes are the whole 2015-2016 lineup and a concept art book. Also pictures of the designer models from the video: It pains me the thought that we will never get a G2 Makuta set. God damn it, LEGO.
Not even seeing out the plot feels kinda sad. I've collected all but Tahu of the original 2001 Toa line up. I ordered it but it never came, I got a refund though so not the end of the world.
So just like that, Bionicle is over again?
So just like that, Bionicle is over again?
Yep, but they said a return wouldn't be ruled out, so I guess fans will hope for a (decent) G3/return of G2.

Then when I started getting titan sets from 2004, they dropped action features the next year, that's why I hated Brutaka and Axonn, and never got them, or any titans until Umarak the destroyer (dragon bolt and Q. beast notwithstanding).

Pretty prideful of it as a lucky find from Goodwill of all places.
