Oh shit, sorry. I didn't get introduced to the series that early on. Apologies.
I honestly don't know why this isn't on the OP:

It is a full BIONICLE archive containing the games, story serials, videos, music etc. Might be useful for some people.

Honestly, say what you will about the Inika as sets, but their story arc was when shit got real. The way they developed these six, who up to that point had been mostly insignificant, up into these ultimate heroes who surpassed the legendary Toa Nuva, eventually culminating in Matoro's sacrifice in the Mahri saga, was really well done. The Mata/Nuva lacked quite a bit of the development because they were always born heroes, and the Metru saga lacked tension because you knew they all made it out in the end, but this? You didn't know for sure what was going to happen, but you knew that no matter how, this was where it all came to a head.
Also the VNOG was a ton of fun.

The Inika are among my favorite of the waves of canister sets/Toa. I just wished their transition to Mahri wasn't so riddled with losses from the transformation. Namely in that their change by magic Mask of Life power robbed them of Inika lightning abilities (which I guess makes sense underwater, but I really don't think such special status should've been taken away with the snap of a finger, that was a bloody unique Toa trigger from the Red Star, damnit!) and that they were made water breathers in their new forms.

Bullshit. You don't just take a goddamn scuba diving aesthetic in your set design with breathing tubes and glass visors and everything and then go "Oh, actually they're water breathers! They're stuck underwater unless more magic Mask of Life shit happens!" There's no reason there couldn't have been a way to make their Mahri forms a new set of armor with air supplies built in, especially with the following year reintroducing the Toa Nuva in radicially different forms that are explained as new armor with magic change-to-suit-different-enviroment abilities.
This just pisses me off to no end in regards to the Mahri. That and the cliffhanger they were left off on in the later web serials where all the remaining members are hypnotized into servitude to some weird gold fusion of various villians.
Is there a link to that powerpoint about the 2015 story that was posted a while back? I'm trying to find a larger version of a pic used in one of those slides.

IIRC, although the Toa Inika were extremely powerful, they never actually surpassed the Toa Nuva in power, since the Nuva were not only built by Artahka but also underwent their Nuva transformations.

Weren't the Nuva pretty much completely powerless against the Piraka? Was that just a fluke or something? I don't know how the Inika stand up against the Mata/Nuva's final forms, Mistika and Phantoka.

Toa Nuva were supposed to be above normal Toa in terms of power level, dexterity, and special abilities like the Kanohi Nuva and such. Inika were just supposed to be normal Toa with extra lightning-related bits.
It actually bugs me how the Nuva were just curbed stomped by the Piraka (and specifically Brutaka later on). I know they had to make way for the Inika somehow, and I can get that the element of surprise is a factor, but they just seemed to fall too easily to the Piraka's abilities (I think the "pick my teeth with Rahkshi" scene tried to establish that they were particularily tough compared to older enemies, but that just opens another can of worms about the Rahkshi becoming cannon fodder). All the Inika had going for them was that their lightning powers making them immune to the Piraka's mind control Zamor spheres and being armed by the Matoran with Zamor launchers made to free the enslaved Matoran. The Nuva just had the dumb luck of Piraka having home turf advantage or something and Brutaka being able to perform a massive one-hit-knockout.
Well Brutaka was supposed to be quite above pretty much any Toa, the only reason he didn't similarly stomp the Inika is because the Piraka stabbed him in the back.
Also I did some digging and apparently eventually the Mahri were saved, but honestly I didn't remember any of that stuff because it really got messy after Matoro died and that managed to coincide with me growing out of this stuff so I stopped being as obsessed with it as I was for the Inika saga.
Also, since there's been some griping, I have two that I wanna air:
1. Hydraxon (the jailer from the Pit) was just such a lazy name, it's Axonn (which was a lazy name to begin with since it was just his weapon) with Hydro slapped on it. I don't even get why they did that.
2. When you really think about it: the mask of life was kind of a dick.
Man, you kids are young. By the time the Inika were announced I was already immersed in the "dose toys r 4 babies" middle school culture, and was thoroughly convinced that kids these days and their weird alien bionicles were missing out on the COOL, OLDSCHOOL BIONICLES.
But maybe it was ME who was missing out?
I would like the Anika if not for them pushing the franchise closer to her factory with their awful head design and even worse mask design. Another problem was the light up weapons, fitting in that gimmick severely limited how creative they could have gotten with weapon design. IMHO they should have just given them Piraka light up eyes and called it a day.

In 2006, LEGO was still letting the designers produce entire new weapon parts for every canister set that came their way. The Inika would've gotten single-part sword weapons regardless of them having light functions, the only difference being possible an extra amount of pin holes for making them more versatile in custom builds (unless that issue is what you're refering to)
Though I get what you're saying. I and others laud the 2006 for expanding the amount of parts available to make super-posable figures (and I wasn't super obsessed over the gear function, so I was more accepting of the more action-figurey approach), but there were a lot of gimmicks involved. Certainly, those rubbery parts won't last as long as the other elements (though I do have a soft spot for them), but at least the Inkias' sword batteries could be changed and the expanded Zamor launcher magazine was nifty, the Piraka had the single launcher and the light-up-eyes which seem impossible to change batteries without ruining the sets. And their "glow in the dark" teeth aren't going to last forever in a parts bin, that's for sure. (Not to mention the Inkia heads were designed around glow-in-the-dark head pieces, but they messed up somewhere in production and we ended up with gaudy lime-white domes in replacement.)
Lego recently uploaded the Masks of Power trailer to their channel in glorious 1080p HD.
Screw Lego for setting the release date for 2015 AFTER the holidays :v:
and AFTER the christmas too
Don't lose hope guys. Toys R Us stores at least have a habit of breaking shelf dates and putting next years sets on the shelves a bit before Christmas, so there's still a chance.
Oh hey there's a Barnacle thread on FP now. Have some stuff I made for the golden mask contest.

2015 sets are up for preorder now on Amazon!

Oh well, it was fun building the stuff v:v:v

There's three in the link above, six more on each Toa's character page.
First impressions are that voice acting is a little shabby, Protectors are humorously badass in their own way, not the most mature tone but still fun, and a little something from the past is becoming more and more relevant...
I kind of feel bad for not knowing shit about the lore.
I just played with the first Ice one and the Wood/Jungle one while my cousin had the Fire and Water ones I think.
No, wait, he had Fire and Stone, I had Ice, Water and Wood/Jungle, I think.
Was cool though.
Oh yeah, there was a thread about this stuff on /tg/ at some point, nicked this cool pic from there.
Don't know the source though.

Let's blame lazy sound work. Not like they had to do much, there's likely going to be a narrator dubbing over the televised version.

I found him.
http://lalam24.deviantart.com/gallery/39216534/Lego
He needs to post guides on how to make these because I need these in my life.
i can see that just from tahu's pose
you can't get a 1x1 technic pole to twist
Good luck making those, IRC he had to mod a lot of parts to get them to work.
I saw him mention in one of the comments that he would be willing to modify parts for people to make these sets, so long as they provide them.
It sounds like it could be pricey, and getting all the pieces would be tedious, and assembling them even more so without proper instructions...
But they look so good.
