Alright I got all 6 Toa, so wahoo. It's really excited that it's starting up again, but I'm sad that the lore is getting a big simplification. I totally understand why, but I'm probably going to completely reread the original book line.

the lore simplification is the major thing that kills it for me.

a lot of my childhood was spent getting intimate with all the bionicle lore. it felt like a world to explore, the toys were merely a gateway to something bigger and greater, this ancient battle between brothers and the heroes sent by the heavens to protect the world from darkness.

it was all very mysterious when you consider the bionicle alphabet, as well as the deep lore. sure you could have just stuck to the toy line and thought "oh cool, they're releasing some roller ball things, that's neat".

but if you followed the lore and played the first game, you knew WHY they were releasing it, the bohrok, after all, are awakened when takua enters a door that opens after the toa defeat the makuta.

and before that even, when takua is in the arctic wastes, he comes across the stone bearing the phrase "beware the bohrok", written in bionicle script.

then you have koli, ussal crab racing, ga-koro fishing, all the various creatures of mata nui etc.

it just felt like a world. and the new sets don't. no movie or animated sequence can replace the depth that was in the first two games.

The loss of the lore is a major turn off for me as well. Half the fun I had with Bionicle was reading about the world and all the little things within the story. Sure, it was a simple toyline, but the lore is what made it so interesting. It was as much as a story as it was a toyline.

With the story, they've stripped down what made Bionicle great and replaced it with something less than satisfying. I understand that the reboot was kinda necessary, as the story was wrapped up with Mata Nui restoring Spherus Magna, but, despite the impossibility of continuing the original story, I still wish that they could have at least wrapped things up with Spherus Magna. They left so many things unexplained, like the Toa Mahri off parading with the Golden-skinned being. All I want is an explanation to the events after the Reforming of Spherus Magna.

I got Lewa and PoJ last week, and I absoloutely love the little guy. Lewa is alright but because of his whole collar/backpack aesthetic his head movements pretty fucked and moving the gearbox down kinda ruins it.

I'm going to refrain from judging the summer sets until they're finalized, tbh they look like they're knockoff quality. The the 4th set looks finalized and pretty good. I wonder what plot purpose shipping the new enemies with Toa masks is, unless they're placeholders for gold masks of the villains.

At least they let take pics at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, which is on the 28th IIRC and includes finalized designs.
