I stopped reading after I saw your avatar
the original title was "how to live the life of a colonial puritan"
Before you go trolling this thread or flaming me, just hear me out.
OK done.
Oh and this book has saved a womans life.. One day a woman in Virgina (I think...) was held hostage inside her home from a man who had escaped prison The woman then read this book to him and he gave himself up surrending and serving his sentence... Now tell me thats a powerful book :)
Then he was clearly a dumbfuck, and it's a crying shame he wasn't shot at the scene. In all seriousness if this is what you have found to get you through your depression, I really pity you. I do, honestly. I think the idea that we are here for your God is not just ridiculous but offensive. Go peddle your dogma elsewhere. Edit: In fact, why did you attempt suicide? Many of us have been there, maybe we can help.
I stopped reading after I saw your avatar
That's the default avatar, dumbass
The idea of God inspires some people while it also makes others bitter, it's a good idea not to bring this into Facepunch, chop full of atheists here.
That's the default avatar, dumbass
Maybe that's the point?
Don't bother me with your religion, then I won't bother you for your religion.
Gods don't exist
Before you go trolling this thread or flaming me, just hear me out. This book, The Purpose Drive "What On Earth Am I Here For?", by Rick Warren is very inspiring... And has over 30 million copies sold... This book, if you choose to read it, will change your WHOLE perspective on life. It is a beautiful book that tells you the meaning of life and tells you WHY YOU ARE HERE ON THIS PLANET! Rick Warren explains to you, "Your aren't on this planet for your purpose, but for gods!" And believe me... This book helps... I'm only 13 years old and I have depression, this book helped A LOT for my depression and the HELL I went through trying to learn the reason I'm on this world. Flame me or not but I have been to a mental hospital TWICE for trying to kill myself 6 or more times.... But this book has stopped me from going a 3rd... For any of you reading this and have depression yourself... Please.. Take the time to read this... This world is meant to prepare us for our eternal life with God, up in Heaven... Right now, he is building the foundation of our eternal life in heaven, and he will ask you 3 questions when you get there... These questions aren't hard.. You just have to be confident in what you say... And trust me, he wants you to answer these right. So please, my brothers and sisters, read this book, to enjoy your time on this world, and love the time in heaven. Oh and this book has saved a womans life.. Once you're dead, you're dead. There's no afterlife. You just rot in the ground, and gradually you're forgotten. Ultimately it doesn't matter, as one day all record of humanity's existence will be erased in the eventual heat death of the universe. Have a nice day!
Well hey good to see a 13 year old reading for a change.
you got that right
Thank you fudgeman I was thinking about killing myself but I read this book and everything is okay now that I know I was put here on earth because for god.
Pfft, I learned all I need to know from Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy
Read some Nietzsche, he'll change your dumb beliefs. "“A subject for a great poet would be God's boredom after the seventh day of creation.”
Anything that helps with depression if fucking good my sister has that shit bad. She's close to the brink of harming herself.... Don't tell her I told....
Exactly, but i'm ashamed of calling myself Atheist. Both religious and anti-religious folk are fucking retarded, me, i'm nothing, something of a nihilist i guess.
Actually no, you're an agnostic. Otherwise known as "an idiot." And you're even more of an idiot for thinking that you're automatically theistic if you're religious, or vice-versa.
Anything that helps with depression if fucking good my sister has that shit bad. She's close to the brink of harming herself.... Don't tell her I told....
Therapists. Much better than god because they exist and have scientifically proven methods.
I am living only to serve imaginary entities.. This has changed my life. I don't quite understand your problem with depression. I think that it's more selfish of you to decide for other people how they should think and feel. Calling depression or cynicism selfish, is hypocritical. And saying suicide is selfish, even more so. You do not have a claim to other people's lives or feelings.
Best post ever made.
i always read kurt vonnegut books to cheer me up.
You want to know an powerfull book? "The origin of species" by Charles Darwin. I suggest you read it.
But you guys.... I was born a Catholic and raised... I cant turn my back on my church right now... Maybe there isnt a god but you dont know that... I don't necessarily believe that he created the universe because there is science against that but still.. And the bible says when God will return back to earth and one of the signs is Isreal becoming ONE country and it has already... I know have depression and shit and the pills help alot its just I wanted to let people know.. If your feeling depressed and lonely ... You dont have to.... I just want to make this world a better place.... :(
Make the world a better place by killing yourself. That or become a rational thinker.
I'm sure we are all glad you've recovered from your depression. However, threads about religion are not a good idea - as noted in the sticky. I know you are promoting a Christian book you feel has helped you but threads like this always invite flaming and trolling and it's highly unlikely anyone will discuss the book itself as even if we were inclined to read it, we don't have copies of it.
Nevermind.
