he's still an actual character, it's not really something i had a problem with
I think my favorite gag in the movie was where [sp]Groot stabs all those mooks through the chest and slams them against the wall, then turns around with a big :D on his face.[/sp]

He works like Chewbacca or R2-D2.
His entire species' language, to us, sounds like "I am Groot".
But the inflections and pauses and whatnot determine what he's actually saying.
It's actually a really fine display of Vin Diesel's chops as a voice actor, considering you always get what he's saying, despite him just saying "I am Groot".

why is it dumb its not like hes the first non-talking character everyone seems to understand, just look at r2-d2 or chewie like banthafodder mentioned

Oh I don't actually mind that, it's just that once my friend sees this movie he'll never shut up about that.
Saw it on Friday with my sister and her friends. Definitely my favorite of the MCU movies so far. I went in expecting Rocket to be my favorite, but Drax ended up winning out. I was expecting his character to be constantly angsty, but he ended up one of the funniest characters in the whole movie.
Definitely going to check out the comics for more of these guys.
Vin Dielsel has likely the most intimidating baritone I've heard.

The classic Rocket Raccoon stuff is there as well. So if a book about a raccoon trying to save his otter girlfriend on a planet that is one big insane asylum full of robotic clowns and bunny assassins sounds really awesome to you, then you will love this.

Also the classic Rocket comics is where I started to really get into comic books, and also my mom got me an issue of that when I was six and that shit stayed with me forever until I managed to read the full series a few years ago. So like that series, and just Rocket Raccoon in general, is something I hold very dear.
