captain america was satire within itself
seriously did you guys not realize how the second half of the film is exactly what's in all his little movies during the star spangled man bit
the guy grows into the character and brings it to the frontlines with him, it's ridiculously over the top for a reason
i'd accept this if steve actuallly changed as a character. he doesn't. he's the same throughout the film.
cap 2 is how you do a captain america film, cap 1 was weak
Cap 1 was good for what it had to be. Captain America suffers the same problems as Superman, "He's boring and one dimensional". But it was refreshing at the same time because that dimension was "He's a great guy". He was made to be the good guy and the script and Chris Evans pulled it off perfectly, the goofy plot to stop the Nazi's that were too hardcore for Hitler was just the icing on the cake. Captain America isn't about being America, he's about being the good guy. He does the right thing and that's that, he's a Paladin.

Those who have actually read the comics these films are based on would probably disagree...

Those who have actually read the comics these films are based on need to remember what the word adaptation means.
Adaptation means making characters bland and one dimensional?

It means
Cap 1 was good for what it had to be.
it was good for what it had to be being "we need an origin and a hamfisted ending to send him to the future for the Avengers." Without the Avengers I doubt they'd even have made the movie. So yeah, they made a typical origin story. You can argue that's all they wanted but I'll just argue they should have wanted more.
The first one was.. rather weak.
What pissed me off was that the end made me realize I just watched a feature length commercial for The Avengers.
First half was good, nearly great, but it got dragged down super hard by the rest.

I've read a lot of captain america comics, but we're talking about the films here. I've only read a couple of superman comics and found him to be uninteresting but I guarantee 8 out of 10 people would say Captain America is a boring Hero, the film made the best out of having to get across that he's a good guy first and foremost in the two and a half hours it had.

well, i'll have to agree with some of the other folks here
it was more of a quick origin story to get him into the present, so really all that shit in the past didn't matter as much as the cap of the future will matter.
also, between first avenger, the avengers and winter soldier, his character develops a great deal, it's a nice little mini trilogy if you think about it.
shit, really the least developed character in these films is fucking thor.

sorry but ur point was that steve changed dramatically after he plays captain america in those propaganda plays and films but he literally doesnt, hes really patriotic and wants to protect people before he takes the serum, he IS captain america at the start but he doesn't have the physical strength to back it up, the serum just enables him to be the man he wants to be.
EDIT: unlike Thor who learns to be humble and not so war mongering in the first film. Tony learns not to be such a dick and think about others, Bruce learns not to be scared of who he really is.
Steve literally doesn't change at all but that's okay. That's the point of Cap. He's the one constant in a team of unstable egomaniacs.
Captain America is my favorite Marvel character.
For me that was Iron Man 2 and Cap 1
eh iron man 3 was kinda weak, i mean it pretty much relied on the same falling-appart suit gig for the entire movie, also the badguys were shit and really really didn't make sense, just didn't feel like an iron man movie except for the tony stark growing up moments
[editline]1st September 2014[/editline]
guardians is a quirky movie that holds its own, still can't get the scene where they're flying into the head with awesome songs playing out of my head
For me that was Iron Man 2 and Cap 1
You mean Iron Man 3 and Hulk 2003
You mean Iron Man 3 and Hulk 2003
Iron Man 3 was better than 2
I rewatched Hulk 2003 last night. Man, Ang Lee sure had a mighty hard-on for scene transitions, but I still loved it.
I consider Hulk 2003 canon to Incredible Hulk just so i can justify the thought of Avengers vs. Hulk Dogs.
Who the fuck thought Hulk Dogs was a good idea.

I really disliked Iron Man 3. [sp]Part of me is annoyed at the representation of Mandarin, in terms of adaptation, the other part of me is annoyed at the build up for pupper Mandarin. They build him up to be a big bad, and he's literally a joke within the movie. There's also some complaints about him blowing up his suits at the end, feeling it unnecessary.[/sp]

[sp]All Hail the King explains the whole Mandarin thing. Ben Kingsley suggests Mandarin is Trevor. 'Trevor the actor' is the real fiction and it was his way of escaping some horrible crimes.[/sp]

All Hail the King pretty much confirms that [sp]the Ten Rings and the Mandarin are REAL, but Killian used their names as a front for his operation. There is a REAL Mandarin who is the head of a REAL organization, but the closest we've come to seeing them so far is the terrorist group in Iron Man.[/sp]

I'll take Kingsley's [sp]fake-[/sp]Mandarin performance and Killian as villains any day over these

Kingsley is beautiful enough to beat both deal w/ it
also Robo-Rourke was terrible enough to weigh all of IM2 down lol

It's not the performance that bugged me; it's the concept, how he was worked into the writing.

How so?
- vanko the elder worked with howard stark to create the arc reactor
- vanko wants to sell it for power and money
- stark (presumably uses shield to) gets vanko deported and takes full credit
- whiplash wants revenge
seems pretty solid to me. one thing they didn't really get big into is that ivan dealt with the ten rings to get his stuff to build his whips.
lol Justin Hammer was the best bit about Iron Man 2 u philistines

It's impossible not to like Sam Rockwell
You know what woulda been cool?
If the Ten Rings were consistently present in all the Iron Man movies as the benefactors for the villain in one way or another.
Stark tries to solve the mystery of where these fuckers are coming from and how they're getting this tech, then he finally uncovers the Ten Rings and the Mandarin and SURPRISE FUCKER, IT'S SPACE MAGIC.
What if...Trevor Slattery was [sp] brainwashed into his Mandarin persona by the Ten-Rings. [/sp]
