I still think all first 4 seasons are worth watching. 1,2 and 4 are great. 3 now that I think about is a bit similar to the bad ones (Or quite the opposite. Since season 5 every season had a character that knew Dexter's secret and was okay with it/wanted to kill, too.). Although the story of season 3 is the weakest of the 4 seasons Dexter is still intelligent in it.
The first two seasons and select parts of the fourth one are good, the rest sucks. Learned this the hard way.
Select parts of the fourth?
And I enjoyed season 3. There's a difference between "Don't watch it" and "It's a little weaker than the others."
the only true masterpiece is season 1. 2 3 and 4 are just good, the rest is terrible.
thank you guys xoxox
I remember how after Season 4 everyone was thinking that Season 3 was mediocre.
But comparing it to Season 5-8 it's a fucking masterpiece.
I always felt season 3 had better writing than the later seasons, it was just more boring than 1, 2, and 4.
Didn't like Season 3.
1, 2 and 4 are my favorite.
New episode tonight!

[sp]Oh shit Saxon slit Vogel's throat! Also not surprised dumb blonde hannah got seen.[/sp]
Well what a surprise in this episode
Vogel is dumb, Harrison is dumb, Hannah is dumb
I think Dexter's disease is contagious
Maybe Harry is actually a tumor, and it's the first contagious tumor know to medicine.
omg harrison falling off the treadmill
is this show a comedy now
My brother and I spent most of the hour parodying character lines and laughing at that shot of the old dude from Ray Donovan commercial getting decked than actually paying attention to the episode. Absolutely zero percent of the dialogue was important.
Let it end.
[sp]funniest episode[/sp]
I stopped watching these few last episodes but it's hilarious to go to SA forums and see all the posters begging for the pain to stop.
I watched this episode just to end this and get on with my life. I didn't pressed so much right arrow for a long time.
Entire time I was thinking, how this season and "Brain Surgeon" could work. And it could, hell in hands of first writers it really could. "Brain Surgeon" could be a brilliant throwback to Season 1, Brian 2.0. Another "brother" of Dexter, but more intelligent and more sophisticated?
Think about it, if they could introduce some minor character season or two before this one. Like Elway, or even something smaller? They could make him work at the station, make him totally innocent through this entire time. Hiding in plain sight. And then on final season they could throw some red herrings and shit and BAM! three episodes left and truth comes. Something nobody expects. Wanting to prove that he's better than Dexter that "took his place", replaced him somehow. And killing him and anyone he cares about. Perfect psychopath, with literally no emotion and no empathy but amazing at hiding and faking it (nice parallel between present Dexter).
[sp]This episode's ending was ok. Maybe if not Breaking Bad that pulled my heart out I watched earlier and maybe if I wasn't skipping every other line it might shocked me, or move anything in me. Or maybe not.[/sp]
But to make all this works, whole structure of Season 8 had to be changed. Getting rid of useless Hannah, Quinn, Elway, Deb, Masuka subplots. Instead of throwing more shit at him that's gonna be solved in two episode - work with what was built in seven fucking seasons. Quinn getting a hunch, making throwbacks to older killings. Trying to tie loose ends instead of making new ones could really help. Making Dexter self-aware how shitty and sloppy he's got. Making him learn on mistakes, work with police and using resources he had (but not using computer magic as a retarded plot device). Dexter could also at some point tell the police that he's a killer (to save himself or his son), it could be a nice resolving of ongoing since Season 1 plotline about Dexter not getting caught already by his retarded colleagues.
Ending? Doesn't matter. Dexter with most of his family dead (go even further - with all of them) already lost, so whether he would kill Brain Surgeon or got killed by him - no difference. But it would be cool to see at the last scene reborn Dexter. He could even go to that fucking Argentina, showing that with nothing left he went back to his old, lonely life. Last scene with him driving around streets of Buenos Aires or any other city than Miami and we could hear him saying " Tonight's the night. And it's going to happen again, and again. It has to happen." with old melancholy in his voice, with old music in the background. A story comes full circle. Cue to black. Audience is left satisfied, although with bad taste of previous seasons in their mouths.
I bet the show is going to end with Dexter tripping over his shoelaces while running towards Hannah and breaking his neck.

For the love of god do not watch past season 4.
For the love of god do not watch past season 4.
i didnt plan to
I've already [sp] seen how many main characters die after season 4 on accident
let me guess
their deaths are not well done at all.[/sp]
I have a bad habit of skimming through wiki pages. I don't know how shit happens, I just know it happens.
[sp]I cannot believe how slow this show is moving given the number of episodes left. The entire season should have been moving at breakneck speed, molding a villain and setting up events to lead us to the end. It seems impossible for this finale to be anything other than simplistic and unsatisfying.[/sp]
Though I was paying attention to reviews, and they make me cautiously optimistic about the finale. The critics who were able to watch the episodes before they aired were rating most episodes this season at about a 60% out of 100%. The ratings for the next two episodes were 90% and 93%. So it seems like the next two will be better than the rest of the season, but I don't know if it's possible for the show to redeem itself at this point.
Having watched the latest episode, I can honestly say I've seen porn with better acting and writing than this

its because all effort to this show goes into writing the last 2 episodes of every season

They're not bad, they just didn't feel as special. Season 7 was pretty good though.

First half of Season 7 [sp]up to where the mob boss dies[/sp] wasn't that bad, but derailed from there
Season 5 IMO was weak but def better then Season 6 and 8

Personally I liked season 5, I'll be the last guy to say I hate it. But it's also the beginning of a slippery slope. So even though I thought season 5 was decent enough on its own, I think if you're gonna stop anywhere it should be season 4. Seasons 6, 7, and 8(especially 8) make it difficult to even enjoy the first few seasons of the show, just knowing in the back of my mind how stupid it gets later on.
At this point, I'm not watching because I enjoy it, I'm watching it because I can't stop now.

That goes for probably everyone in this thread.
What are you talking about? We're still watching for the amazing acting and fantastic writing. Dexter is clearly the best show on television.
