I mean with only a few episodes left we may as well finish it. I'll admit I haven't been paying as close enough opinion than I used to. By that I mean while its on I'll just browse the internet, or do homework or study because the show makes me cringe that badly now
Personally I liked season 5, I'll be the last guy to say I hate it. But it's also the beginning of a slippery slope. So even though I thought season 5 was decent enough on its own, I think if you're gonna stop anywhere it should be season 4. Seasons 6, 7, and 8(especially 8) make it difficult to even enjoy the first few seasons of the show, just knowing in the back of my mind how stupid it gets later on.
I liked Johnny Lee Miller's character and very small parts of s5, but I agree that s4 should be the stopping point.
I think first episode of season 5 still had a lot of promises. But right with the second it went downhill.

It had so much potential. If they would only follow storyline about Dexter being a mental wreck after [sp]Rita's death[/sp] and Quinn & Liddy on a hunt after him. Instead, they swept them under the rug and we've got a mediocre story of Lumen and barrel killers that went absolutely nowhere.
This last season and the one before it weren't bad, the show is very nearly redeemed.
But, if the spoilers for the finale that I read are real then fuck this show and fuck the writers for squandering it.
Eh, actually, nevermind.

First five paragraphs pretty much lay out why we're going to get what is very likely going to be the worst series finale since Battlestar Galactica.

[sp]Not sure if you mean 6 and 7 or 7 and 8, but I disagree regardless. 6 was a constant up and down, one moment would have me loving the show, and the next would make me want to turn it off. (for example the episode where he killed Nick I loved, and the one immediately after I hate with a passion)
Season 7 was better, but still cluttered and not really that great. I did like Issak, but the story with the mob as a whole didn't grab me. I absolutely hate the Hannah thing though. Like I said before, I love Yvonne Strahovski, I just hate what her character does in the show. Dexter being in love with her makes so sense. I also hate how they pretty much denounce his love for Rita. He did love Rita, and it was in his own special way. I hate how now they say his relationship with Rita was a sham, and now he feels real love. Dexter letting love cloud his judgement is a mistake Dexter shouldn't have the ability to make. But what really upsets me is the back and forth murder attempts, the fact that Dexter sent her to prison, and every time they look past it and love each other. If they're relationship was different from that, maybe I'd accept it.
Honestly season 8 would have been decent enough if they stuck to Vogel and the brain surgeon and never brought Hannah back. We could have used these Hannah eps to meet and get to know our villain.[/sp]

And if discussing a leak please keep those spoilers separate with warnings beforehand. I still want some sort of surprise.
I meant 7 & 8, I think they're a huge improvement over 5 and 6.(two filler seasons that led to nothing except Dex being caught in the worst way imaginable)
Definitely not even close to 4 or season 1, of course, but far more entertaining than it has been in a while.
I don't mind Hannah, I liked her better last season though.
This season it's been all over the place but I like the chemistry between the actors atleast.
It's mainly that the writers can't write good ~love stories~ for Dexter to save their lives.
The show has been awful in that regard ever since the original writers left.
I think 8 has by far been the worst season of this show.

Season 6 had this:

But yeah, at least it was intriguing at the beginning with those religious themes and fanatic killers. And Father Sam who was one of the best characters on the show who wasn't a villain. And great idea standing behind 'Nebraska' episode, which is in my opinion the biggest waste of an idea this show ever seen. And what connects all these good things about Season 6? Wasted potential.
Season 7 had only good Isaac Sirko and Hannah McKey, but not because of writing but superb actors. Season 8 has absolutely no good things and is beyond redeeming. It's really the worst season.

I was really excited for Nebraska. Revisiting Trinity's family, having Brian back. But then I watched it, and it was just terrible. Brian was dumb, everything he said and did was dumb, everything Dexter did because of him was dumb. The only redeeming part was the part with Trinity's son, but Brian ruined most of that too.
[sp]I thought 8 had potential until Hannah came back and took over. I was so happy in season 7 when he finally turned her in. When Dexter ran out to stop Hannah from leaving town, it became clear that the whole season had at that point lost any potential credibility it had.[/sp]
Season 6 was stupid in how after literally every episode, they hyped up the episode with the 4 Horsemen sign made of a dude's body parts and mannequins strapped onto horses.
Then, when the episode actually aired, we'd seen it 50 times already so any shock value or surprise we could have had was crushed flat. Plus, they spent probably 2 hours of air time talking about something that lasted less than 2 minutes.
The problem with Dexter past season four is they continue to have really interesting ideas that they execute in literally the worst way possible.
maybe they should just get a really bad idea and make it really good.

Lila in Season 2 wasn't the best idea, but ending in Europe was really satisfying and well executed.

This season wasn't horrible. Season 3 was the worst.
The writing has gotten worse though.

Out of all 8 seasons of Dexter, you think 3 is the worst?

I thought this season is/was terrible, and this is coming from someone who have enjoyed ALL of the seasons of Dexter. I can understand why people don't like certain seasons, but I've enjoyed them.
However, this season they dropped the ball. It is supposed to be the last season of Dexter and with two episodes left, I still don't see a end game. They introduced too many useless story lines this seasons, too many characters, and no setup for a finale. The "Villain" is terrible and posses no threat to Dexter. The only explanation I can think of is Starz didn't tell the writers it is going to be the last season until writing 3/4s of the season.
I've always imagined Dexter ending with Miami Metro finding out about Dexter. I also wanted a Deb VS Dexter thing in the final season also. But with two episodes left I don't see any of that happening.

While not talking in comparison to previous seasons, I found 5 to be pretty decent. 6 was a constant up and down, but overall I was fine with it. 7 just felt strange the whole way through, mostly because of Deb, but again I thought overall it was acceptable. Season 8 is the first time I actually cannot stand the show. The events of the next two episodes are either going to be a real stretch, or they'll be underwhelming. Probably a little of both. If this were any other season, I probably wouldn't care. But this is the final season, I was expecting a nonstop buildup to an explosive finale. But this is literally the same formula from any other season, only worse. At least we knew who the villain was in the past seasons before there were only 2 episodes left.
Lila in Season 2 wasn't the best idea, but ending in Europe was really satisfying and well executed.
The ending in Europe was one of the stupidest things to ever happen to the show, up there with Nebraska and ghost Olmos.

You can say that it was rushed, or underwhelming as a finale (when having Doakes as an antognist through entire season, but personally I was satisfied with what happened to him), and because I hated Lila I was glad to see her end like this. For sure you can't say it was one of the stupidest things to ever happen to the show. Not with having "aging software", retarded video game about serial killers, stupid Masuka's interns, LaGuerta's bench and I can keep counting.
No, it was up there.
He disappears off to Europe and returns to Miami in a course of like 10 minutes and no one ever questions it.
It was so completely out of character too.
i skipped season 3 because i heard it wasnt as good as 1,2, and 4
Holy shit 4 is fucking amazing oh my fucking god
i should stop watching now, right
it gets bad after season 4, right?
Three was worth watching for Miguel alone.
I really don't get the hate for season 3. Compared to the shitfest we have since season 5 it's a masterpiece. Don't skip it.
Yeah watching seasons 1-4 in order in their entirety is a necessity, past that its really up to you.

I don't think you should skip 3, if you aren't too far into 4 I'd go back.
Honestly I loved season 3. The general opinion on it is that it's not as good as 1, 2, or 4, but it's worth watching. I personally feel that it is pretty great. I hold it up to par with season 2 in my opinion. Regardless, you should watch it.
Honestly the only thing wrong with it imo was that [sp]the skinner was a pretty weak villain. But I also felt that Miguel was good enough to make up for it, and the skinner didn't really distract from him. I think the Miguel kill was finale material, but oh well.[/sp]
i finished season 4 already
i think im gonna go back anyway
trinity is fucking amazing
is it me or all the cinematic and nice shots (like the camera showing nice things and shit) have dissapeared? I remember the series having some cinematic value and it feels like all the scenes are fast and half assed
absolutely. the first season has beautiful cinematography, it's shot like a film. now it's just soap opera cinematography. i think even using the word cinematography to describe it is being too generous.
