Wow this season has been terrible so far.
Also who the fuck is this random black woman. Where did she come from and why should I care about this sergeant thing? So many of these side storylines are just absolutely pointless and inconsequential. This season is confusing me. Its not the Dexter I wanted.

While I agree that the season is awful, I don't understand all the flak towards Miller, she was introduced pretty much the same way that Quinn was.
I agree but it just seems like something strange to do so close to the end. At least with Quinn we had plenty of seasons to build him up as a character and define him but with Miller, shes just in for the last season or so, we know next to nothing about her and now she's getting screentime about some sidetrack shit (the sergeant thing). If we had more time to explore her as a character it'd be okay but in this stage of the series it feels like a waste of time
yeah you can't introduce another member if the force seamlessly in the last fuckin season. especially not if you're expecting us to care about them.

but this is how it happens in reality, people get assigned to different departments all the time

Six months has passed since the end of last season. Did you even watch the pilot? They seemed to hammer that one in alot within the shitty dialogue. [sp]"Since Laguerta died six months ago"[/sp] was said quite to an almost excessive amount.
And it's fine to bring in more people on the team, but keep them in the background. From a storytelling perspective, it's dumb as fuck to introduce a new character and actually give them an arc while expecting the audience to care at all about this person we don't know.

The third book is where it starts to go full retard right? I read the first two and they were okay. Certainly better than the last few seasons of the show.

They weren't better than any season of the show. No matter how dumb Dexter gets in the show, he was always a hundred times dumber in the books.
