Not all Republicans are Christians, not all Republicans hate gays. Not all Republicans are horrible ignorant people.
the republican party supports all these though. in closing, fuck you
People outside of FP do this too, assuming that because I affiliate myself with the right, I am a bible-thumper that hates gays. I wish I could rate you more than one agree.
:cawg:
I'm in a similar situation as the OP. I'm not religious, I don't hate gay people and I'm not a huge fan of George Bush or his little wars but I went Republican because of the core principles of a decentralized government. That and the way my largely left-wing state is run has completely pissed me off.
Lol Obama is ruining everything. At least in my far right opinion. To the gay haters: I don't like them either, but it's morally better to say you're uncomfortable around them.
I see myself as an original Republican, like the ones in the 40's and 50's, most modern Republicans are just plain assholes. Ex. Bill O' Reilly. But I don't really like to get into politics, this is just a side I see myself as if I so chose to.
I was a republican/conservative. But then I realized that I was just constantly being told what to believe by my parents. Now I'm pretty much a democrat/liberal, because I think conservatives are just overly paranoid people who try way too hard to look in their bibles for "clues" that obama is the anti-christ. I mean honestly, go on youtube.
I only dislike extremist republicans. The gay-bashing, christian, uber-conservative ones. While I'm far-left, I chose to be open minded and neutral towards conservative points and beliefs.
+1
First of all, yes bill oreilly is an idiot. Second, only old school conservative look to the bible for answers. Modern conservatives only look to the bible for moral guidance ex- it is immoral to kill an unborn fetus.
For the past years I've been coming to Facepunch I've noticed that at every possible opportunity that when ever someone mentions or utters the word "Republican" the thread instantly decends into a chaotic mess of posts explaining their blind hatered and dislike of the entire party and all it's members. What I want to explain, that first of all. I am a Republican. Second of all, that the Republican party as a whole isn't that bad. Generally the sterotype is "HOMOHATING CHRISTAN FAGS HATE LIBERTY!1" however, the fact of the matter is that, yes, a small portion of our party is like this. However, the entire party as a whole, is not. The reason the typical sterotype of Republicans is spread is that those people who honestly have their heads up their assholes are the most vocal. Examples are Fox News and Glenn Beck. Not all Republicans are Christians, not all Republicans hate gays. Not all Republicans are horrible ignorant people. For example. I'm a Republican. I support Gay Rights, such as marriage and the like, it happens that my Uncle is gay and is also a Republican. Ontop of which, I am in Athiest. I am a Republican because I agree with the core fundimentals that the party was founded on. Namely, the that States should hold most of the power and the National Government hold as little power as possible. Not that we should completely do-away with it, just limit their power to impose on the states. This is where people normally go ahead and say "Don't flame, no bashing etc." but I know that's not going to happen no matter how polite I try to be about it. So go nuts, I just wanted to throw my opinion out there.
Except that it's not really the fringe of the party anymore. Those are exactly the traits they look for in the people they elect. Also, they don't exactly follow their core fundamentals anymore. [editline]04:46PM[/editline]
First of all, yes bill oreilly is an idiot. Second, only old school conservative look to the bible for answers. Modern conservatives only look to the bible for moral guidance ex- it is immoral to kill an unborn fetus.
According to the Bible it's also moral to stone people for homosexuality or adultery. The whole concept of using the bible as a moral reference is bullshit, because most of the things that actually happen in the bible are absolutely abhorrent to any modern morality.
Except that it's not really the fringe of the party anymore. Those are exactly the traits they look for in the people they elect. Also, they don't exactly follow their core fundamentals anymore.
exactly, the republican party has been hijacked by the social conservatives and neoconservatives. they're no longer smaller government, they're for a bigger government, just in a different way than democrats.
exactly, the republican party has been hijacked by the social conservatives and neoconservatives. they're no longer smaller government, their for a bigger government, just in a different way than democrats.
They're for destruction of civil liberties and using our armed forces for the benefit of our corporate backbone. It's definitely big government, but the regular guy on the ground doesn't think so because the Repbulicans constantly assure him "It's small government because we let you keep your guns and cigarettes. But you can't have abortions, and you can't be in a gay relationship."
Conservative Technocrat here :smug:
the reason you're getting an influx of party hating twats is because in recent years it's become trendy to be in politics. The source of all the piss bashing is from people hating bush and wanting someone else in power. The result is a fuckton of uneducated 13-19 year olds (the adults do it too) that know nothing about politics and are simply looking for a way to strike back for the shit that Bush put us through. Basically, they're being rebellious. As a liberal, it makes me want to punch each of them in the face. Because what ends up happening is these extremist liberal assholes start lining themselves up with the actual liberals interested in politics, and then whenever they get into a discussion they can't back shit up and end up making the entire party look bad. Educated extremists (there are a few on here) are actually okay, they're just frustrating because they're so militant - but at least they don't make us look fucking dumb. There's a big correlation between radicalism and lack of education and funds. Basically, I'd say about 70% of each party consists of stubborn fucks that don't know what they're talking about, and then the remaining 30% are the educated, split into halves of moderates and far left/right. [editline]02:16PM[/editline] test to see if someone is a new wave liberal: Ask them if they support obama if they mention the word change once, they're a new liberal
i love you.
Ontop of which, I am in Athiest.
I think Atheist wants you out.
this was on another thread, but the part at 4:30 is really why I hate republican extremists. well in all honesty I hate all extremists.
Bitches don't know about my MODERATENESS.
because Republican's are a bunch of jokes?
We have a peculiar habit of stereotyping a whole group by looking at its most extreme members.
I agree with a smaller government and less government influence on daily life, but I also have many democratic viewpoints. I am a moderate libertarian.
The "core fundamentals" of the party have drastically changed since foundation, or at least in practice.
We have a peculiar habit of stereotyping a whole group by looking at its most extreme members.
Except they aren't extreme, they represent the mainstream trend of the party. They are the ones elected to be it's leaders, or the spokesmen that the party's constituency watches to TV. You can't dismiss Bachman and Limbaugh and Beck as fringe when they clearly aren't.
I like where this thread is going. I have alot of republican nuts here who dont know what they talk about most of the time. [editline]04:01PM[/editline]
There are always exceptions to the sweeping generalizations. But unfortunately for you, the "republican stereotype" is going to persist and you choose to be a part of that generalization by stating that you're a republican, no matter how different you are from the said stereotype.
Exactly, couldnt have said it better either.
Am I a republican or a democrat? How about I'm a person who doesn't feel the need to arbitrarily align himself with a stupid "team" to give strength of numbers to stupid opinions and not think for himself.
We have a peculiar habit of stereotyping a whole group by looking at its most extreme members.
and when you have a whole party of extremists, it becomes the norm welcome to the Republican party
According to the Bible it's also moral to stone people for homosexuality or adultery. Check out the story of Lot and the whole Sodom & Gomorrah thing. Shortly after Lot leaves the cities and his wife turns into a pillar of salt, God has Lot's daughters get him drunk and rape him so that they can carry their father's seed! FUCK YEAH!
You sound like a closet liberal.
Democrat Lets break them down for someone that is on the fence line. Corruption http://wbal.com/apps/news/templates/story.aspx?articleid=19396&zoneid=40
Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon has been indicted on public corruption charges. Well they love you to pat taxes but they don't pay taxes. Here is a quick look at the Obama nominees that have tax problem: Who: Tom Daschle: Health and Human Services, White House Office of Health Reform (new position created by Obama) How much owed: Over $100,000 Length of time owed: Various since 2005 Prior positions: Senate Majority Leader, Senate minority leader, Representative Who: Timothy Geithner: Treasury secretary How much owed: $17,230 when he was caught in an audit, $25,970 once he was nominated (the statute of limitations was up at the time of the audit), $4,334 in additional taxes, and $1,232 in interest for infractions after the transition team did an audit Length of time owed:2001 and 2004 Prior positions: International Monetary Fund, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Who: Nancy Killefer: chief performance officer (new position created by Obama) How much owed: $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help Length of time owed: Filed in 2005 Prior positions: McKinsey & Co, Assistant Treasury Secretary for Management Who: Hilda Solis: labor secretary How much owed: $6,400 for a tax lien on husband's business Length of time owed: Some as long as 16 years Prior positions: Representative (unknown if state or federal), Board Member: American Rights at Work (socialist group) And don't forget House House Ways and Means Committee chairman, Charlie Rangle who is not an Obama appointee but the guy in charge of the tax code: http://creepinglunacy.com/2008/09/22/1222058173022.html
Defense Democrats are all for defending the country. We just can’t use force to defend US interests but we can use our military to deliver pizza. Economics Democrats get a pass on economics because of the myth that the "New Deal" ended the Great Depression. Spend 15 minutes in an economics class and you know the Democratic Party gets a failing grade in economics. Democrats are called "Lemings" for a reason they follow the leader until it leads them off a cliff. Don't be a Leming.

WTF, I think Nascar is the most boring "sport" ever invented, and I'm fucking married... Also who the hell taught those dumb hicks that THROWING ROCKS AT PEOPLE was a good thing to do if you disagree with their opinion?
I like Ron Paul. I hate Fox News.
HURF DURF MINDLESS PARTISAN BULLSHIT :downsbravo:
IRONY: When someone attacks people they disagree with as being "lemmings" and then uses a bunch of mindless and ridiculously biased and inaccurate bullshit that was clearly pulled off a far-right website. There are corrupt people in both political parties. There are prominent politicians and economists who owe back taxes in both political parties. To think that a list like that is an indication of the party as a whole, or somehow indicates that the opposite party is "better" is pure idiocy. You have a brain. Try using it.
