No, it isn't the thing. You're not bound to at least try pulling. That only happens if you develop it as a bad habit while lifting lighter. If you don't develop that habit (someone teaches you how to deadlift correctly from the get go) contracting your arm isn't a instinctual thing to do at all. It isn't a form thing, it isn't a thing that happens when it's super heavy, it's a bad habit thing only people who either self-taught or were taught poorly do.
well by all means i try correcting my form as much as possible but not all of us have mark rippetoe watching over us from the heavens.
and yes, i have a few bad habits, but don't persecute me for it; it's not as though i've tried to curl while deadlifting. maybe you misunderstand me; i'm not saying i actively partake in trying to disconnect my bicep tendons from their proper place, but more of me cheating ever so slightly just to get a very heavy weight up.
i've never had any instructors, so the only critique to my form is the mirror.
Tearing the bicep has fucking nothing to do with being on the juice or anything like that.
If your arm is fully locked out, there is zero tension on the bicep no matter how much weight you're pulling or how much juice is in your veins. Bicep tears happen when guys are struggling with the lift and instinctively (like retards) try to help it along by contracting the arm. As long as the arm is kept straight and locked there is zero chance whatsoever of tearing the bicep.
Everything I've heard is that jooce weakens tendons or whatever. However like you said, I'm sure proper lifting technique and such no matter the scenario keeps it safe.
Steroids do not weaken tendons. You're simply misinterpreting information.
Tendon injuries can happen on gear because that cause muscles to increase in strength faster than the tendons can keep up. Tendons take time to increase in strength, even on gear. If the strength increase of muscles is way too fast, you risk putting a load on the tendon it hasn't adapted to yet. However, the tendon itself doesn't get any weaker, it's just weaker relative to the strength of the muscle it is connected to.
I guess winny can put tendons at risk for injury since it dries out the joints. But most of the time the joint pain will keep you from moving any kind of weight that can bust a tendon.
I concur. You will fuck your shit up if you contract your biceps while in a closed pack position like that during a deadlift. Considering that you cannot curl the weight amount you're attempting to deadlift, that joint position is essentially forcing the two bones to act as a single unit. If you attempt to break that unit with flexion, expect a tear and some tears.
why dont we all just use straps and double overhand and call it a day :u
First time posting on this thread, and a long time posting on this forum. I was reading the couple pages on deadlifting and was just curious how many times you guys DL a week? I have only been working out since last year November and usually only DL once a week. I lost 45lbs from November 2012 to May this year and have been trying to put on muscle now. I was 245 at 6'1 now at 200 6'1 trying to put on muscle with high weight and low reps. Only 19 did not lift at all in high school, just looking for some friendly advice. Also just read everything about shit I need to know, and no I do not do 5x5. I work out 5 days a week, chest/tris, shoulders, back/bis, legs, then sometimes do a day for core. So for DLs I usually try to do a lot of sets for that strictly because I have been told it is one of the best lifts. As for the rest of my lifts 3-4 sets of 6-12 reps. Usually 12-10-8-6 reps of as much weight as I can do.
I deadlift once a week too, 2 warm up sets followed by 3 ascending sets.
I deadlift twice a week.
On back days I knock out one or two machines to get warmed up, then pyramid up with DL's. I'll do 4-5 reps with 225, 2-3 with 315, 1-2 with 405, then gradually add weight pulling each weight once until I fail.
On leg days I will just knock out a few sets with 315 or something to hit the hammies and glutes, nothing too strenuous.
I do them for fun mostly. Not a staple of my routine. Just feels awesome picking heavy shit up.
Regular deadlift on back day, and stiff legged deadlift on leg day. So two times a week for me.

I don't understand how you can look like that at your height and weight, I looked like a starving victim back when I cut to 77kg and I'm 183 cm, not that much taller than you and yet you look pretty good at 69kg.
my muscles are styrofoam

but srsly i don't understand either, i get that same reaction a lot
i guess i'm pretty lean as well
small bone structure. Usually means you look a lot bigger than you are in pics. You look great tho no homer
A dude on my team is 370lbs and 5'10. He doesn't look anything over 300. He wears size 17 shoes though and is the widest human being i've ever seen. All about dem genetics
I weight about 93kg and I'm only 183 cm. Most of my mass is my penis.

Lol his big ass can move really fucking well for being close to 400 lbs. His shoes are like the quadrupled xl width too. Dudes bigger than shit, fat, but still one abnormally large human being. If he was 6'5 he would easily be 500 lbs.
When will it be my turn for super genetics? the amount of people I hang out with who posses retardedly good genes is absurd. brb my dude back home is benching close to 500 lbs at 18, brb other dude we used to chill with was dunking in 8TH GRADE weighing 270lbs(As an eight grader) brb brb im pissed
overhead pressed 170lb behind my neck last night, took a while but im getting more flexible and it makes it a hell of a lot easier and less strained.

squats are cool but dont neglect your upper body.
overall aint bad
Or maybe he just has decent lower body genetics, I know I do, almost all my mass goes straight into my legs and my upper body is much slower to catch up, I'd rather have huge legs and a decent upper body than the opposite though, chicken legs looks like shit.

Cutting right now, lost about 5lbs. I'm 200lbs now.
perfume
A little bit of progress, I find my growth a bit too slow to my taste but whatever, I'm not about to stop because I'm discontent about the speed at which i grow.
Been bulking for 3 months now and I gained about ~12 pounds, went from 170 lbs to 182 lbs and now I'm up to 185 because I started taking creatine so that water weight is adding up. My waist line is not increasing and it doesn't look like I'm adding on any fat so I'm assume I'm actually growing though I can't see any noticeable muscle mass increase, maybe it's just me, I don't know.
