Some commonly heard comments are:
"Emergency room patients under national healthcare systems have to wait for HOURS to receive treatment."
"The countries can barely afford the system they run, and are taxing the living hell out of the citizens."
"Doctors that work in these systems are underpayed, and are therefore not motivated to do well in their work."

etc...
Do you feel comfortable with your systems?
1. lines are pretty much same as in the American system
2.taxes i here are pretty much same as they are in America
3.doctors don't get much money as they get in American system but still more than average citizen
Yes I do.
I think the NHS is good.
If it wasn't for the MPs draining our taxes (fucking glad they got caught), then taxes probably wouldn't be as high.
I'm completely satisfied with it. Damn americans need to stop bitching, it's a great system. :argh:
(England)
I love the fact that when I manage to injure myself in some dumb way, I can just go to hospital and not worry about bills etc. The wait is a punishment as far as I see it for being stupid enough to get hurt in the first place.
People who are really fucked up generally get bumped to the front of the line and everyone understands this.
The healthcare doesn't work in their countries and it wont work in ours.

It obviously does work. Everyone in the country can get healthcare, not just the privileged few. You'll still be able to have private healthcare if you want, but free healthcare should be something available worldwide, regardless of how much money you have, you should be entitled to life.

Everyone as in the drug addicts who don't do shit? Most people have health care besides Homeless and Drug/Alchohol addicts. Most Homless happen to be drug/alchohol addicts as well. But there are some who really need help.
Also, good for nothing criminal scum get HC as well.
People who actually do something should get Health Care...granted some good people happen to be homeless, but they can be helped.

It's a human right to get health care, just because they don't contribute to society does not mean they should be treated as shit in your toilet. Most of them DID contribute to society at some point, or WILL contribute at a later point in their lives. The health care we have does not add a noticeable amount to out taxes, so why should we really care?
Once again, Americans who oppose this system are greedy fuckers who wouldn't save a mans life if they saw a dollar.
I agree, what kind of person really puts money as a bigger priority than saving lives. Oh, you can't pay for this $150,000 life saving surgery? Well just go die slowly then :downs:
[editline]09:18AM[/editline]
Shit what was that movie where the dude takes a hospital hostage to get his son a heart surgery?
found it, John Q. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251160/
You do know that if a person is in critical condition, they save their life and than access their income and basically tell say you have to pay THIS much depends on how well you're doing.
So if you're poor, you either don't pay or pay very little.

Hey, let's generalize all Americans because we're fucktarded like that
:downs:
i like reading these kind of threads, because people care too much.
but,let me say this,i have dual citizenship and i know what socialist based health care vs private based health care is like from experience...and i hate private.thats all i am going to say ive had enough arguing about it and i could care less if you sound smart in a argument because it can not beat my experience
btw not a lot of people can actually afford health care in America so shut up
What are you on?
The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that 15.3% of the U.S. population, or 45.7 million people, were uninsured at some time in 2007. More than 38% of the uninsured are in households earning $50,000 or more per year.
So not only do most people have health insurance, a large percentage of those who don't are more than likely able to pay for it if they did.
I am fine with the healthcare in the UK
Also, here is a site with anecdotes of medical experiences from both sides of the system.

Just click "another?" or "Two more stories" to find some more.
It seems pretty biased.
I'd like to know how they match up stories.
Here in America we have SUPER MILITARY INSURANCE. I don't have to worry until I'm 18, its either enlist, or lose the insurance. :clint:

Hey, everyone, I've got this great idea! Let's put redBadger in charge of deciding who deserves to be treated for their illnesses, because he clearly knows the circumstances behind everybody's life story!
The UK nhs seems to work pretty good.
if you go to a hospital and have to wait then you obviously dont have a serious issue and waiting isn't a problem. (it's not usually hours either)
if you DO have a serious issue you get treatment straight away, theres no waiting for that.
How I see this is, if you got a serious issue and are forced to wait, something is wrong with your healthcare.
i like it
The treatment that the NHS gives is good, but the waiting times for appointments can be long as fuck.
About 3 to 6 months for appointments can be annoying as hell.
Mine works fine.
1"Emergency room patients under national healthcare systems have to wait for HOURS to receive treatment."
2"The countries can barely afford the system they run, and are taxing the living hell out of the citizens."
3"Doctors that work in these systems are underpayed, and are therefore not motivated to do well in their work."

My only answer.
I love the NHS it's never failed me in my 18 years of living.
Very. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Of course I do, though it could be much better.
Considering the fact that most of Facepunch is too young to even have to pay the taxes that allow for their universal health care, they really don't have much of a say. Yea, you can say alot of things are great when you aren't paying a cent for it. Not that I think that universal health care systems are bad, it is just that most of Facepunch doesn't grasp the whole picture.
Fuck me, I edited but didn't put back in a piece I accidentally deleted.
Why do all Americans think we have to wait forever to get to the emergency room!?
Hey, let's generalize all Americans because we're fucktarded like that

Sorry brah, I missed a bit off in my rageposting.
Canadian Health Care FTW. It's not "Free" but atleast the taxes allows you access to a hospital or doctors office if you just have that health card in hand. Sure the health card can be prone to fraud. but usually they are caught, and will have to pay the American way after. Also, Wait times depends on your status. something minor can be held longer, while life threatening gets the almost now. OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) saved my ass when i was 5, and that was the surgery I can't remember.
