What I like about your work is how it is a direct contradiction towards the theme. :v: If an old book is put into a new shelf that makes it remembered. Had it been in an old shelf in some abandoned building with dust on it, then it would have been old and forgotton. But this was just an old book that was remembered and taken care of.
yeah that plus the name of the author backwards ;)
Thanks for the votes guys :) I had lots of fun doing that piece. Concerning prizes, I'd probably go for the 'hold out' (or nothing), because I entered solely for my love of art :smugdog:
Because I entered solely for my love of art :smugdog:
Why would you enter a contest if you just love doing art? Sounds mean. "I'll enter this contest here and not take a prize ruining it for the others who wanted a prize". you bully. :v:
The :smugdog: was to meant to show that last bit was a little jokette. Conveying what you mean is hard when typing. Explaining myself: It makes more sense for 3D to get the book and photography to get the programs so I went for the only other definitely available prize.

That is my serious face.
That is my serious face.
Failed at :v: did we? small V, not big. This is my serious face :hampants:, whatcha gonna do about it?
Failed at :v: did we? small V, not big.
*shakes fist*
Thanks guys, and thanks Lazore. Yours was awesome, by the way. As far as grabbing prizes, it would make sense for 3d to get your mental ray book, no?
It would make sense for the 3D side of things. Even if you're an avid VRay user, my book is helpful. Hell, the equivalent VRay book has a review that actually suggests you read OURS instead and adapt what you learn :v:

vray book from above - [link] My Mental Ray - [link]
:byodood: Your book must be good. I think I might buy it
JoeyZ should have gotten way more votes than that.

I liked joeyZs too.
I feel loved.
I liked yours too but it felt kind of irrelephant.
Damnit, Dai, why must you make me feel more and more inferior. :smith:
Hey so when's the next contest? I was swamped with stuff to do that I never got around to doing anything, but maybe next time. [editline]04:45PM[/editline] Oh and congrats to the winners.
Damnit, Dai, why must you make me feel more and more inferior. :smith:
We all loves you :buddy:
Well howdy, second place. I'll play to that tune, yes sirree bob. [editline]11:19PM[/editline]
Why would you enter a contest if you just love doing art? Sounds mean. "I'll enter this contest here and not take a prize ruining it for the others who wanted a prize". you bully. :v:
I was actually planning on doing the same thing in his situation.
YAY you guys did great.
So yea, mailing a guitar is a pain in the ass, and there are fees involved. If I can somehow set it up to where the mailing can be simple and find a way for somebody to help cover the fees the soonest I can mail the guitar is around september 5th. The less bulky items shouldnt be as big of a problem anyways and those ones are most certainly for sure on the rack to be given away as prizes. On the subject of the Adesso tablet, just so you know it is nothing special and is pretty much a very simple tablet, so it would be more grouped to minor.
THERE you are! :buddy: alright, so let's list this out really quick as to what you think is available with minimal shipping. We can hold a "major winner" voting session for a day to see who gets any of the more major prizes.
My idea of the theme and everyone elses was really different. I guess I took it too literally and all I could think of was decaying buildings/machinery and post apoc stuff. (not a complaint)

Although I didn't win, I feel glad I went ahead and did a painting anyway :)
I'm happy I got to finish that piece of shit.
Just wondering but c&c for the photo I did?
Sure thing. I liked the idea you had going, but the one thing that kinda ruined it for me was the flash, with the subsequently bright grass up front and very flat looking overall surfaces. I want you to practice going out and doing night photography where you don't use the flash on your camera, rather you let it do a long exposure and do something like stand off to the side and shine a flashlight on your subject, or if you have an external flash set that off. You can get some nice dynamic night shots with the right light and timing. :buddy: Also, where's our winners at? I need to know (via PM) who's waiting for what now. I can send out the book, just give me a mailing address (please oh god live in the US), or let me know what email to send you the shared key to Topaz, or what you'd like for commissioned art. OR, whether or not you wanna hold out for major prizes and the sort. Chains, do you know what's officially available?
Just wondering but c&c for the photo I did?
Really digging the silhouette in the background, the skewed cross with name on it looks very nice. Sticks works but could just as well be removed from the photo, ceramic vase looks out of place and should have been removed, at least with that grass in front of it which makes it seem like a completely random object just laying there. Should have pressed down the grass in front or cut it with a scissor or something because it looks horrible with the flash. You should re-do this picture in the same place and angle if you can, cut the grass and take the photo on manual with a long shutter speed so that you have both the flash and natural light blend in on the picture. Also try to take it without flash at all (it's almost always the best option). Find some rocks, take with you some books or whatever that you can place the camera on so that it doesn't become a blurry mess when you take the photo with the long shutter speed.
CC my shot please.
CC my shot please.
It's a snapshot, simple as that. I liked it better before you cropped it, but I do like how you cropped away his luggage, if you kept it like the original, but cropped the bottom like you did with your final submission then I think it would look better. It's a photo that doesn't really speak for itself, you need to have the thought process with it to really get it. The title doesn't really help either. It just tells us that he's old, not alone. The photo does not imply that he is alone either even with the fancy pantsy isolation of colours. It would probably work better if he was the grey one and everyone else in colour, but it could also look really terrible.

I really need to get my a into g and learn how to use the manual settings. When I find some more time I will try out your suggestion and then post it into the photo thread.
