This seems completely made up Source? Something like that would be all over local newspapers
i remember reading about it, in fact there may even be a video one moment [editline]16th May 2011[/editline] also reminds me of that cop who chased some kid on a bicycle, drove up right behind him and tased him from the window surprise surprise, the kid fell off the bike, right under the car and died
I don't understand why people are making such a huge deal when they ask you to search your bag in a store. Only thing you're doing is making yourself look like someone who did steal something and it's wasting both your and the store manager's time. Just let them take a look at it and hear them say "OK" and walk off. Cops are generally nice here as long as you have an ID with you. I've seen people getting fined for small things like throwing shit on the ground, or even cycling through places where you are not allowed to cycle, probably because they didn't carry an ID. Then they get fined for not having an ID + the original fine. I've been stopped for both multiple times and each time I got away with just a warning because I apologized and picked up the thing I threw on the ground. They say 'Alright, this time only a warning blabla' and you thank them and go.
That's stupid. You shouldn't get a lesser punishment for carrying ID..
if i'm not mistaken, it's this incident http://www.toledoonthemove.com/news/story.aspx?id=457181 video in question: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=dd7_1274051429 [editline]16th May 2011[/editline] of course not to say that all police are like that, there's stupid twats everywhere. i guess it's just more scary because the few stupid twats that are in the police are in a position of power and have weapons.
I did work experience for a week at my local police station here in Sydney Australia. Its a hard job, they get shit pay, long hours, little respect and not much for career wise for them People that join the police force really do join up to make a difference in their community's. I have a great deal of respect to our emergency services and military forces. But as people have seen, police abusing their powers and losing the plot do deserve to lose their jobs and get punished. But maybe we should also look at why the became like that in the first place? Because they sure as hell weren't like that when the signed up?

I've actually had a few run ins with the cops here and there. But still consider them to be extremely important for the public good. Though as stuff goes State cops > Town cops. The difference between the two is usually unbelievable. With the townies often not knowing which laws they should be citing in which situation or what they ought to be doing etc etc. Whereas the states tend to know their shit. I still laugh though at all the videos of the police "abusing" women and teens. In almost all the cases, you see the police officers make a pacifier move which is use on everyone regardless of their gender, age or state. It's usually something they are trained to do no matter what. Same goes for riot cops most of the time. The moment you are seemingly violent their training hits in and they pacify you again. Once more no matter who or what you are.
I don't understand why people are making such a huge deal when they ask you to search your bag in a store. Only thing you're doing is making yourself look like someone who did steal something and it's wasting both your and the store manager's time. Just let them take a look at it and hear them say "OK" and walk off.
In most european states these things essentially fall under constitutional rights to some regards. Which can under normal circumstances only be breached via a legal process. Hence a cop walking up to you and going show me your bag is wrong. Just as wrong as a security guard doing the same. The correct action would be for the cop to come up to you and claim that there is a suspicion that you may have committed a crime and ask you to let them search your bag. If you are to refuse this, they then have a full right to detain you. Obviously, even though the security guard doesn't really have any right to do it, as long as he asks nicely and says that someone is worried that you may have taken something, if he could take a peek into your bag, most people, including me, would show it to them. That's why you hire security that knows how to act with people instead of merely brainless brawn.
I think the police are reasonable some times and jerks some times. I guess they're a necessary evil?
Well I mean, it kind of sucks they banned guns, but the way I see it, no one should own a gun. There is no reason to, unless you hunt.
self defence isnt a reason apperently [editline]16th May 2011[/editline] my fathers bike was stolen once, so he called the police and got "lol sorry you werent there at the time cant do anything bye"
Well I mean these polices are here to help. The ones I actaually dealt with were the calmest people ever. I got a fix it ticket one time, and the cop gave me a choice of getting a fix it ticket and/or a 200 ticket. I just asked for the fix it ticket because I wanted to keep my car. Nice guy though. But it depends on the area. San Jose for example. There only little handful of good cops. The other cops go after the stupidest violations, while higher violations are always looked over.
if the police want to search your stuff, they have the authority to in public. let them do their fucking job
No but seriously I have heard of some police officers doing some seriously fucked up shit. I mean obviously the majority are good hardworking men and women who do their job well, but I think some just get kinda power hungry i guess.

Most folks tend to interpret this as fuck you, we won't be doing anything at all. Not realising that there isn't really that terribly much the police can do.
wow, murderer what a terrible police officer specials shouldn't be on duty alone
Learn to read, the guy who he shot didn't die.

I don't believe that we should see police at all as bad. We should only see bad police as bad. Bad police misuse their authority, infringe on people's rights, hassle people needlessly, and use force when it situations where nobody could justify the need. These people in law enforcement need to get called out, and these people do deserve a ton of scrutiny. I think it's an issue that needs to be complained about, and a lot, but I don't see it as a way to stereotype all cops as bad cops because most aren't. I've had two experiencing in dealing with police. The first went fine and they were very respectful and so was I to them. The second did not, and the officer was very disrespectful to me. Neither abused their powers, but I have good reason not to like the second officer especially since he quoted me entirely wrong in his police report and did a worse job writing up what happened.
I by no means see the police as bad though even after a few run ins with some not so nice MET officers. They keep me safe and I respect that. The problem is they have to deal with rude fuckers all day and end up treating the genuinely respectful people like rude fuckers too. The youth have a picture of the police as brutal, unlawful pigs who will abuse their authority and the police have a picture of the youth as brutal, unlawful little shits who will constantly be rude. It's a lose lose situation but the police are here for a reason.
My mum works as a civilian in the local police station, so I've been around Police officers on a social level all my life and I've never encountered any problems with them. I have the utmost respect for the cops in my area. They do an important job. Sure, they might hassle you to move you on if you're loitering somewhere, and you might see this as a nuisance. But these are also the people who will respond to your calls for help if you ever need it. Something many other people would simply ignore.
I'm going to recieve thousands of boxes for this, but oh well. I've never had any bad encounters with the police, but I do dislike them for one reason. They don't have enough power. Like during May Day, there was this park full of underage teenagers drinking. The police should've just beaten them and taken them to jail, fucking useless bastards. Instead, they just took the ones who were most drunk. They should've taken EVERYONE, and they should've punished them very very harshly! Police is here to protect us. Unless you're a criminal, you don't need to give a shit about police officers invading your privacy or anything like that. If you care about it, you're basically a criminal because you're preventing them from doing their job. Their job is to prevent crime and you're preventing them from doing it. So, more power to the police! OH GOD THE BOXES, THEY HURT SO MUCH! MY EYES!

The only reason police abuse occurs is because they have power and authority, giving them more is only going to make it worse. The police are not here to protect us, they're here to protect the institution that they work for and they will routinely attack people who threaten similar institutions. They don't intend to prevent crime they intend to enforce their authority crime prevention is merely a side effect of that.
where i live, cops are bloody incompetent but their incompetence makes them fucking scary They once shot a kid on a motorcycle with a learners permit in the head because he wasn't pulling over next time cops please dont tell someone when he's listening to his ipod to pull over when you are about 1 km away then shoot him for not responding when he's listening to his ipod
The cop shot him in the head with a pistol from a kilometer away? If your departments made up of Navy Seals?
My dad is going to be a police officer when he retires from the military. Even he gets respect and disprespecet. I hope my dad will be the nice cop
Here downtown in Hot Springs, Arkansas when that skateboarder was put to the ground in that one video. I watched it from the deli shop on that street.
Those cops are fucking crazy...
All police-officers i've ever met have been very nice. Might be cause i always try to be as polite as possible v:v:v
All police-officers i've ever met have been very nice. Might be cause i always try to be as polite as possible v:v:v
yeah if you are stupid when dealing with cops they will give you a beatdown, and for a good reason.
British police are so much better than what I've read of American police.
yeah if you are stupid when dealing with cops they will give you a beatdown, and for a good reason.
Being a jackass isn't against the law and if you get a "beatdown" for being rude it's time to lawyer up
They're idiots. My dad used to own a semi automatic rifle (Australia), and when they became illegal, a bunch of them went to his house, and asked him to bring the gun to them. And they also wanted him to unload it. Then again, Australia.
You're complaining that police enforced the law in a peaceful, diplomatic manner instead of bursting into your home at 3 in the morning, detaining all of you, and just confiscating it?
My friend got snuffed in the face by a cop for no reason, my friend wasn't exactly where he should of been but the cop still had no reason to use force.
