I'd rather not have my public healthcare pay for some shitbrain who can't operate a seatbelt.
That's a bad argument because it can be extended to outlawing extreme sports, general acts of stupidity, and other things that aren't (and shouldn't be) illegal
Atleast benefit is gained from said sports. Absolutely nothing is gained when seatbelts aren't worn
This thread in a nutshell: My uncle is a police officer who patrols my upper-class white neighborhood and he's really nice to me, so all the stories of police abuse that can be verified with hundreds of eyewitness and internet sources are all just angst ridden teenagers complaining!
Nice job using a generalization to justify another generalization.
Every sector of society has some prats, no reason law enforcement is any difference. If you think about the millions of crimes solved each week compared to the very, very few incidents of the police doing something wrong it is very unfair for people to judge all police negatively. I would have no problem with the police ignoring to any emergency calls from people who think the police do a crap job.
That's a fucking stupid mentality, why would that be in any way a good idea? What if they're reporting a housefire/robbery/etc?
People should be able to make the decision to wear a seat belt or not.
So I guess those people would automatically opt out of life support when they are vegetables in the hospital.
I live in a city with very little crime. So I never really see the cops. Fun fact, my city's population is only 8% Black according to the census.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Pasadena,_California#Adjacent_Localities 3% here. :smug:

Are black people extinct in 90% of California or something?

I once had 3 squds storm my house, because some tresspasser saw me with a fashlight. One of them told me that I could hve been shot! For carrying a flashlight around my house. The lead was nice tho. Btw, they were about to leave when I went outside to see what was going on :downs:
I told a cop to (Politely) go fuck himself when he asked to search me. I don't want him going all TSA on my ass. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline]
1.87% Beat that :smug:
Not even fucking listed on my demographics, but Greek is at 1.9
As long as you're not a jackass to the police, then they don't overreact and return the jackassery in subduing you.
A good amount of police around here run stop signs all the time, outright harass Latinos, toss marijuana seeds into cars, pull over people for DWB (Driving while Black/Brown), and general just be as big of an asshole as they can be. There are two police officers I know who are good, sane people. I don't know how they can just stand there and let half this shit happen.
seatbelts should be mandatory simply because your idiotic lump of unbuckled meat can kill other passengers in the car when it's flung all over the place during a crash.
seatbelts should be mandatory simply because your idiotic lump of unbuckled meat can kill other passengers in the car when it's flung all over the place during a crash.
I don't know if this really happens or not, but it's a frightening image.

I have huge respect for the police, without them there would be an overflow of crimes.
I have huge respect for the police, without them there would be an overflow of crimes.
what do you think causes crime in the first place
Poverty, mental health, education, childhood to name a few. You sound like you're implying cops cause crime (?)
hey guys i believe im only endangering myself, can i drive down neighbourhood roads at 110 mph? it's my life after all thanks
I hate when nan yells out "FUCK THE POLICE" in the middle of church.
I don't know if this really happens or not, but it's a frightening image.
It does. I have been to a car crash where the father was sat behind his son in the car and the father wasn't wearing a seat belt. He killed his son because the father's body caused the seat to buckle forwards and crush his son.
Police broke my '71 moped :smith: . Mopeds over are not allowed to go faster than 45km/h, people usually tune them to about 80 km/h so police check the speed your moped can go with a rolling road. Now I have a moped with manual transmission and this guy couldn't shift and went about it like a brute, now I can't get it into first gear any more. Cost only €35,- and an hour or 2 to fix but still it's heartbreaking to hear the little thing scream for mercy. Went to the police station the next day to complain about it but they said it's "voluntary", if I had refused they would've taken me to the police station and tested it there I would've gotten a motorcycle cop handling it and any damage done would be paid for.
Adults should be allowed to choose between using a safety device and slowly dying in their overturned car, if the state believes not enough people are using seat belts they should turn to PSAs rather than outright outlawing the choice not to wear a seat belt.
You are also endangering others with your lack of seatbelt, if only because your corpse flying out of the window could kill someone. Likewise you are most likely going to incur greater medical costs and if you do survive, the likelyhood of you being maimed and thus costing society a bigger expense once more is far higher. Enforcing seatbelts is a reasonable choice and does not infringe on your rights of freedom of speech or acting. But it exists to reasonably protect you as well as others on the road. Similarly as speed limits. Or do you consider those to be infringing on your rights as well? You have to keep in mind that to get people to do something you usually need an incentive - either positive or negative. And considering you cannot expect the state to give you a positive incentive you must have them enforce them via negatice incentives. Though insurance companies do actually often give out positive incentives as a nice comparison.
i think cops should have the shit scrutinized out of them at all times and if they fuck up (badly i mean) they should immediately lose their job. when someones got a gun and the power to fuck peoples lives up with jail time they better make sure they don't make mistakes. also, fuck cops i'm a fucking rock star
There was a cop who stole all this weed from confiscation, made brownies with his wife and thought he was OD'ing so he called 9/11 and they let him resign without punishment, lol.
lol yeah i remember that. that's another thing, how the hell could someone that stupid become a cop? they need to have far more stringent requirements to become a cop. when one of my friends asked a cop about becoming one back when i was at school he told us you just need to be fit as he became a cop after leaving school at 14
You don't have to even be that fit IIRC, the only thing stopping me ATM is a manual(stick) drivers licence. :/
