I immediately went to look at my nearest airport. All the planes were deformed :v:
Holy shit, this is awesome. To think, some day we'll be able to take a game like GTA and import a city into it and have the game fill it with vehicles, high resolution textures and etc.
Very impressive. A step in the right direction for maps.
pessimistic rated your post optimistic
i wonder how much it costs to get poster that large on times square
Damn, Ninja'd. I saw that too, had a giggle!
Looks like a neighborhood...
So people set up a bunch of tents and call it a neighborhood?
That was my joke, they look like frigging tents.
Numnuts

It's very inspiring to look at places with this if you're going to map urban areas. And obviously not just such areas =o

Because America.
Also does anyone know what that little person looking button does?
This is amazing! Kinda hoping some of the big game producers have similar technology already as well. We've had so many games in cities "based loosely" on real cities, and a few games where you have small bits modelled on reality, but a whole city would be awesoem.
Edit: Not so thrilled on the plugin itself though:
"Can access all data on your computer and the websites you visit".
It seems to mess up when making the trees 3D too. They just look like giant green pieces of shit.
Trees are giant green pieces of shit.

Imagine rendering an entire city down to its minute details with this mapping technology combined with this engine.

I am not 100% computer savvy, so I will not pretend to know the ins and outs of the difficulties of rendering large cities in games. My point was simply that if you look at the GTA games, or one of 100 different FPS games which have large individual levels (hell, even assassins creed), it's be super cool to have the external bits modelled on things we can go out and see and recognise in real life. Granted, none of those are literally city-size, but at the rate technology is advancing, it can't be that far off.
If they ever manage to map the whole world in 3d, imagine that google earth war RTS game, only more refined and in this map viewer.
