That seems more like what I thought, but still semi leftist.
By funding and supporting artists it could have a similar effect to public works funded by the government, helping by putting money into the economy, among other things.
Or we could use that money to fund museums or construction or maybe even feed starving kids. But hell, what do I know? [editline]11:02PM[/editline]
Don't talk about art, you're not an artist and you don't know what you're talking about
Oh sorry I forgot that the common people aren't allowed to be involved in art any more. [editline]11:06PM[/editline]
I hate "Abstract" or "Modern" art, it's perversing the ideals of what is considered art to our future generations. No skill or talent is needed in Modern Art, and it's straying away from the true definition of art.
More effort and emotion than any crap Damien Hirst does. And at £5 a copy, it's cheaper too. [editline]11:07PM[/editline]
Anarchy Burger, hold the government.
But then what will regulate the businesses?
I honestly thought I would be more authoritarian. I guess not.
I can spend several hours making something shitty. Effort is irrelevant. The "point" of art like throwing paint over a canvas can be anything. It could be a statement about how life is not as orderly and crafted as some suppose, or a rebellion against the current conceptions of what a painting should be. The fact people pay millions for it is no fault of the artist. Hell, even by making a "meaningless" piece of art, you are making a statement.
Except now that's the majority of the art scene. Fountain was created as a joke and to challenge people. Compared to the absolute shit Tracey Emin and the rest of the YBAs spew out it's tame. To challenge the current mainstream of art we'd need an oil painting of Jesus on the Cross.
More effort and emotion than any crap Damien Hirst does.
Damn you forever for making me google that man.
I'm over here with everyone else. Economic Left/Right: -2.50 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.26
has anyone gone for top-left/bottom-right? how the fuck would that even work?
Top-left: Government regulates businesses and society. Bottom-right: Government doesn't regulate business or society.

This test is a terrible test of your political standing. Too many questions take a moral position and apply it to your position on the government. Many people believe things for themselves, but still believe that the government should have absolutely nothing to do with it. ... and lets say I do believe astrology accurately predicts things (which I don't). What direction does that put me?
I fall in exactly the same square as Ghandi. Hmm I thought I would be more on the facism side.

Lots and lots of Liberals on here. Pretty much already knew that. Heres mine though I consider myself more Libertarian. I'm mighty close to Hitler.
I like it.
You guys do realize being close to the center is a bad thing, right? It means you don't think ideologically, and you are either indecisive or just have no logical thought process behind your political beliefs.
socialism would be good if it didn't have all the socialism
Let's drown it with American Capitalism.
Economic Left/Right: 4.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.97 Am I the only purple here?
Economic Left/Right: -0.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72 I'm like the lowest here, but I never considered myself so close to the left-right border. I guess you could say I'm socially liberal.
What's the point to those? Where's the soul there? The artist just dumped a pot of paint over a canvas. Where's the effort?
just because you don't take the time to understand it, it doesn't mean it is meaningless with that attitude we'd never have any music except classical music and no art except classical art [editline]10:00PM[/editline]
starting bid at $900,000
why 900,000, is that the cost of a brain transplant?
Or we could use that money to fund museums or construction or maybe even feed starving kids. But hell, what do I know?
I would agree that practical problems should be solved before decadence. However it may be argued that decadence does lead to innovation. That would lead to better solutions to the practical problems.
Or we could use that money to fund museums or construction or maybe even feed starving kids. But hell, what do I know?
what does that have to do with art?
Oh sorry I forgot that the common people aren't allowed to be involved in art any more.
the point was common people can do art
what does that have to do with art?
I think he means versus government investment in art.
I think he means versus government investment in art.
like in the US? because that's totally state/local if anything
We should try to correlate this data with our year of birth, sounds like the leftists are going to rise with the new generation
Why are people rating me boxes for being a bit to the right?
[editline]12:08PM[/editline] In b4 'lolcommie'
lolcommie ...wait

I prefer to just avoid politics.
