put explosive on the bottom so when it hits the floor the explosives explode and stop the egg breaking.
also just to clarify: parachutes do not work

cushioning is where it's at. you can have a parachute if you want, but it's all about the cushioning.
stick it in your ass and then glide down like one of those squirrels

parachutes increase surface area and thus air cushioning :science:

yes
We do this at my school except we have to drop it off the top floor of a 3 story building.

i must make this.

for a static prop such as an egg the chances of students sitting down and actually attempting to make a parachute is just about unbelievable. Throwing a plastic grocery bag on and tying it to the egg isn't a parachute, and you know that's exactly what they'll do.
Make a box out of paper, then make a makeshift parachute with strings and more papers. Remember to put something soft with a contour curve cut out for the egg to sit it. and make the walls or box packed with packing peanuts.
Worked for me both years i did it.
For my physics class last year I just bought a tub of marshmallow fluff during lunch and put the egg in it. It worked it was just a mess to get it out and that probably wont conform to your classes rules.

it's not really hard to make a parachute at all what the hell
is fingerpainting complex, too?

I never said it was hard -- I was implying that no high school students are going to actually sit down and do it.

My friend and I did it, in the time limit, and it worked.
:colbert:
Did this freshman year. I took a box and got some big sheets of those plastic bubbles for shipping stuff wrapped the hell out of the egg and I got a 100%.

Wrap it 2 full rolls of duct tape
When I done this some years ago, all we done was take the egg and used a load of bubble wrap. We then went crazy with sellotape, and attached a parachute. Dropped it - unwrapped it rather quickly and we won the contest. Our prize was a bouncy ball and to pop the bubble wrap.
Just put it in a big bundle of newspapers with as much air in between the layers as possible, then pull a couple of strands of tape across it.
We had two hours to figure a design out and build it, i built mine in 10 minutes and it survived a 25 foot drop.
I had to do this in an Art class in High School, we started with a movie sized poster worth of paper, and tape. That was it
Make a Cone, stuff it with paper wading, put the egg in, Seal the top, Make a parachute with the rest of the paper, you're good to go
Encase the egg in Jell-o
When I did this, we weren't allowed to use parachutes or anything to get advantage of air flow, and the egg had to be exposed so it could "look" out, which rules out any type of liquid
:saddowns:

How long will it take to get the egg out?
I made a Triangular pyramid out of cardboard, put cotton balls all inside the pyramid and then attached strips of latex glove from the egg to the inside vertices of the pyramid and put the last side on. The glove strips acted as shock absorbers and the cotton balls to cushion.
Did this years ago.
Easiest thing to do is get a 2 litre plastic bottle lid, stick the egg inside it with some tissue covering the bottom so the egg isn't exposed to plastic, then use some string and some bin lining to cut out a parachute, then attach it to the lid.
Easy.
That sounds very efficient.
Put the egg onto here:

with under it
and make a parachute with and
Although I was thinking cutting the top of the bottle off instead, since what if the parachute causes the mechanism to jerk when it gets caught by wind resistance and the bottle cap tilts, making the egg fall.
Also, would the parachute unravel if it were folded into something that would fit into 30 x 30 x 30?
Wow look! it's errorproxy asking a question in the general discussion!
I don't know WHO could have seen this one coming!!!
(Also: Elastics suspending the egg in a box.)
Could you explain this?
Also: Elastics suspending the egg in a box.
I was thinking that, but it'd be hard to make.
I did this in 6th grade.
Fill the container with powder. It worked for us.
Also, if it doesn't work, just add water and vegetable oil, and you have brownies.

Do this.
