also I'm sorry if there are too many large clusters of black squares, but due to the way I designed the puzzle it was kinda unavoidable

they are?
I don't really know all that much about how crossword puzzles work tbh, I thought you just slap a few words on a grid, have them intersect with each other and the rest you fill in with black squares while still retaining symmetry (+ or - minus a few rules that vary by geography)
Shouldn't have two words running parallel unless they are separated by a line of black.
You can look at this for reference

okay well then just pretend the contiguous white grids are racially-segregated areas for authenticity
now make a sudoku about intersectionality

What makes you place black squares in lower esteem than white squares? Why did you immediately assume that we would be indignated by said black squares? Black squares are just as visually pleasing to look at as white squares and to suggest otherwise is racism against them. You of all people should know this.

I entertained the notion of using Dr. Gestapo's coloring book idea and using gay rights as the theme but unfortunately I can't draw for shit

Although then again even if I could draw, there aren't too many icons or situations that pertain to the LGBTQ struggle that I know of aside from the Rainbow and the symbolic image of two people of the same sex showing affection for each other
[editline].[/editline]
maybe the image of a crazy Christian pastor virulently condemning homosexuality while a young boy dejectedly looks toward the ground
[editline].[/editline]
or a man eying the women's clothing section at Walmart while his girlfriend's attention is turned away
[editline].[/editline]
I have to get in touch with my inner-gay first
