• Intelligence: how it alienates me.

There's more to life than just proving how clever you are you fucktwit.
I don't think the OP is smug or on a high-horse at all.
The fact he is claiming that he is 'intelligent' is a smug claim. He tripped on the first hurdle. One must first understand that intelligence does not account for how clever you understand yourself to be. It is an umbrella term. The OP is not intelligent in believing that he is completely intelligent. This is a moronic claim to begin with.

The OP is not intelligent in believing that he is completely intelligent. This is a moronic claim to begin with.
If Stephen Hawking claims himself to be intelligent then that doesn't make him unintelligent. It's blatantly obvious to everyone that he is immensely intelligent. Regardless of whether or not the OP is intelligent: he sounds like a cunt. If you're REALLY intelligent do something useful with your life. Become a scientist or a doctor or an engineer or something like that. There's a lot of self-proclaimed intellects at my school who are really fucking idiots that, by their own admission, don't plan to do much with their life's at all. In the end I suppose it's what you do that matters and that's what defines you. We can all sit around and pretend to be intelligent, but unless we actually DO something with our intellect it's just squandered brain power.
I felt this way Then I graduated from Highschool, and went to Uni etc I was like "FfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu..... I was a douche, but, but so was everyone else. More so, infact. Ah well. Life."
I'll admit there are alot of idiot kids in school. It'd be one thing if they were approachable, but instead attempting to hold the door for them or infact sitting next to them in class provokes a "YO SON YOU'RE FUCKING GAY, STEP OFF, I'M DEAD ASS YO, YOU'RE LIKE MAD FUCKING DUMB." Some of their dumb questions, disruption, acts of vandalism, lack of respect for women, themselves, general lack of hygiene and the fact that they can't dress themselves or speak properly is almost excusable but they're not even friendly. [editline]03:53AM[/editline] Infact the Freshman at my Lunch Table threatens to cut his friend's whenever they joke around with him. From my understanding, and from what his friends have told me, he has a knife in his bag. If he threatens to do it one more time, I swear to god I'm going to have to report him to the Office.
Any truly intelligent person assumes those who surround him are capable of an equal intellect. Only the conceited alienate themselves in a facade of superiority.
Quite profound, eh? Nice one Lankist.
You know, a Freshman wanting to beat you up for ratting on him isn't that bad. But the fact that he's under the influence of drugs, comes from a troubled home and has a knife in his bag does concern me a bit.
To the OP: Never, NEVER post something on Facepunch you've thought a lot about and expect good results. This applies to everyone. My post is surrounded by other Oct 08'ers
OP, you just made me realize one of my freinds is a huge asshole like you, thanks
I smoke, I drink every friday and saturday and I do weed. I am also in the in the 3rd year of college studying engineering, play in a rock band and have a hughe crapload of friends and groups. I have only a few really close friends that (like you said) 'get me', but that is more then enough. I would say I am pretty succesfull while following the herd by smoking, drinking ect. I usually dont go around and tell evryone how succesfull I am like you do because that makes people hate you. (exept for now then) If you get to know people you will find that they are actually smarter then they seem, alot of people hold up a facade telling evryone they are smooth-going and don't care about annything while they do. EXTRA: I did a minor in Evolutionary theory. If you would look at Being succesfull as a human being, the defenition would be: Make sure your species and race survive above all and try to get all your genetic code into as many quality women as possible before you die.
Arrogance: how it alienates me. ^ Actual thread title
I just-... I can't-... I honest to God can't say a thing about the OP because I'm so overridden with the urge to mutilate him. By the way; you don't deserve your girlfriend, that is if she's real, in the slightest. Or your "friends." Or- -fuck it, I'm just going to go back to hoping you're a troll.
Oh god, i laughed so hard. OP.. Drinking is cool, smoking is 50/50, sex is great. You are blocking out life if you haven't tried this. Tool!
Wow, whoever made that pic is a genius!
Another thread made by an egotistical teenager thinking he's 'smarter' than the rest of classmates, when he's really not. Get over yourself and enjoy life. If you can't stand people in your school, find friends somewhere else. I also love how guys who can't get a girlfriend try to debunk "love" as "nothing more than a chemical in the brain". Lonely much?
I'm sorry, but why is it wrong to not want to copy everyone else? How is it egotistical for wanting to make the smart choice instead of being a mindless sheep? Sounds like OP is tired of being harassed by morons who can't make a simple decision for themselves. [editline]10:45AM[/editline]
We're not judging him by his lack of girlfriend. We're saying that people who claim that "love isn't real" or is just "a chemical in the brain", have obviously never experienced love and are sad people for assuming that just because they haven't found it means that it doesn't exist. Especially something as obviously existent as love. Also, I'm pretty sure OP isn't a troll. He wouldn't be defending himself so much if he was. He's legit. Which is worse.
Yes, you are. Love is a combination of psychological effects in the brain that cause us to become attracted to others, if you are actually trying to say love is a physical force then you're dumb. All these people calling the OP arrogant, do you honestly believe everyone is equally intelligent? OP might actually be smarter than his peers. Stop being so god damn mindless people.
The OP's outlook on emotions remind me of Dexter.
:what: How'd you even get a girlfriend with that attitude?
I think he means Boyfriend...
The OP's outlook on emotions remind me of Dexter.
>Implying OP is a psychopath. There is nothing wrong with seeing life objectively. [editline]10:53AM[/editline]
I think he means Boyfriend...
Oh and now he's gay apparently, nice to see that the so called 'reasonably intelligent' people in this thread have to resort to petty insults and unfounded accusations. Really, is the OP the one who's arrogant here? [editline]10:55AM[/editline]
Intelligence doesn't alienate you. Your arrogant belief that you are better than everyone else/thinking you shouldn't waste time with them does. [editline]04:56PM[/editline] You're just a manly man who doesn't feel pain.
Except he never said that he thought it was better than anyone else, he only wants people to respect his choices.
OP has a FEW valid points but he's mostly a fucking MASSIVE dick. Being distant with everyone is a psychological problem... getting into fights (social) etc. You're not better than everyone. Get off your high horse (evidenced by most posters), and accept people for who they are. Don't over-analyze life.
^ ITT: If you don't like everyone and you don't get into fights, you have a psychological problem.

Hey bloodshed. , thanks for saying "I hate everything because it's either stupid or a hormone"
I think he means Boyfriend...
Intelligence: how it can appear in a thread and slowly melt down into gay jokes. Expecting troll invasion.
I'm sorry, but why is it wrong to not want to copy everyone else?
This is what I've often wondered myself, it seems if you don't "fall in line," you're out of luck. You'll never click with the majority of people. That doesn't mean you can't be friends with them, they just won't be the friends you can share everything with.
How is it egotistical for wanting to make the smart choice instead of being a mindless sheep?
Because when someone tries to get out of line, they get punished. That is the world we live in.
Sounds like OP is tired of being harassed by morons who can't make a simple decision for themselves.
Yeah, I suppose. It's not really me getting harassed, I just see the world getting dumbed down, and no one is realizing it...
Yes, you are. Love is a combination of psychological effects in the brain that cause us to become attracted to others, if you are actually trying to say love is a physical force then you're dumb.
This is true. If I don't want to fall in love, I never will. This applies to everyone.
All these people calling the OP arrogant, do you honestly believe everyone is equally intelligent?
Yes, it seems everyone here is so busy being modest, that they're not actually saying, (or maybe they really are just that modest) what they really think.
OP might actually be smarter than his peers. Stop being so god damn mindless people.
Lol, some maybe. I think I have the right mindset, that is all. I don't think I'm more intelligent, I just think my mindset is in the right place, and people don't understand.
Hey bloodshed. , thanks for saying "I hate everything because it's either stupid or a hormone"
Anytime, bro. But I never said I hated anything (except when my GF says "I love you," and that is because I don't feel the same, but I don't want to hurt her because I like her as a friend).
OP could have saved himself a whole lotta paragraphs and just said, "I have aspergers."
Not really, it doesn't control me. I still make the right choices by not insulting everyone. These are feelings only FP (and my closest friend) know. You guys should feel so special. <3
You're probably not smarter than the average person, but rather slightly more knowledgeable. You even admitted it yourself ('Common Sense 'smart'). There is a difference between the two.
Not really, it doesn't control me. I still make the right choices by not insulting everyone. These are feelings only FP (and my closet friend) know. You guys should feel so special. <3
Warm and fuzzy.
But recently in my life, it's really hit me how different people are...
Being different is good. Don't be a communist.
dying from lung cancer.
An Intelligent person would actually ask themselfs if smoking really is a direct cause of lung cancer. and you should also consider the logic behind this argument... or rather the lack of. -If you smoke then you get lung cancer. -Not everyone who smokes get's lung cancer Strawman argument.
I've talked to so many people that say they drink because their friends do.. Is this really how stupid people are? They claim it's not fun, they just do it because their friends are.
Again, Logic. You generalize all the people that drink based on your friends. A converse accident fallacy. Second, when people drink they generally feel less shy and thus can make more relationships faster.
I will smoke weed, it doesn't negatively effect you like smoking cigarettes and drinking.
Again, you should investigate your claims a bit further. The fact that weed is illegal and cigarettes aren't should make you a bit skeptical about your claims
Why does being smart make you different? How did people get like this? Why are people so stupid?
I am not going to call you stupid. Maybe you are a smart kid. I don't know. But I doubt you know the people you refer as stupid well enough to make such claims about them. Intelligence comes in many ways. Creativity, memory, spacial ability, etc. Many of which you won't notice by watching them get drunk.
How do people figure smoking makes them cool?
It started with Hollywood. The bad guys always smoke. Maybe even Jazz clubs being famous for their thick smoke fog.
Don't get me wrong, hanging out with people is fun. And I do stupid stuff (I'm not a buzzkill), just not stupid stuff that gives me lung cancer.
Again, strawman. They are also many other causes for lung cancer.
I feel as though people are too concerned with fitting in to have common sense.
Wanting to fit in is something normal. But fitting in doesn't mean you are the same as everyone else. Everyone has their own personality. I do undertand that people like joining the bandwagon. But sometimes doing so makes the whole thing much more fun. Example: 4 people in a group want to play soccer. Then the rest of the group joins the bandwagon and they all play soccer. Much more fun than half a team playing soccer and half a team playing basketball or something.
But on the inside, I feel like I'm too smart (common sense wise, not 20+20=40 kind of way) to fit in with people. I feel like I shouldn't have to dumb myself down just so people don't call me a nerd. It's sorta annoying. I don't change myself, but certain words I would normally say, I hold my tongue around people because I don't feel as though they're mature enough to understand.
You underestimate your mates. Under the right circumstances you will be surprised by their maturity. In most cases.
I'm a very straight forward person, as-in I don't sugar code stuff. I prefer blunt people, if you have something to say, just do it (that doesn't mean be heartless, but don't sugar code everything).
I agree. I don't like people that think you are so weak and can't take the blunt truth that in some cases doesn't even bother you. But if they think you have heart problems then it's ok i guess.
People are controlled by emotions, they act on then. If they're mad, they act on it and regret it later. Why do people have such a hard time controlling their emotions? It's so easy. Just use your brain.
Emotions are what make us feel alive. Controlling emotions is very difficult if not impossible. If someone loved dies you aren't going to be happy no matter how good you control your emotions. The only way you could control them is by forgetting them.
People act on love, so, what is love (baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more)? A chemical in the brain. So why do people have such a hard time controlling their brain? Well, because people don't know how to be mature mostly. Love isn't exactly real, it's just a chemical. I've been in a couple relationships, and I've never really felt heartbroken. I mean, it sucks going back to your old lifestyle before meeting them.. But people also get emo and depressed (I will bash depression later, because that's the kind of awesome guy I am). I've never been able to understand "fairytale love" and how people believe in it. Sleep is a chemical, but we don't believe in a magical fairy that puts us to sleep.
Consiousness is a chemical. All your memories are chemicals. You underestimate chemicals. I doubt you have felt real love. Love has made people make great stuff. An example is the Taj majal. I have been in love many times and i have done some crazy stuff as a cause of it.
Loving your family is different, you grew up with them, they raised you, and took care of you, assuming you had a good family (doubtful, sucker). Love for your family should be unconditional. But for a person you met, love doesn't exist.
Now you contradict yourself. Love is chemicals but family love isin't. This makes no sense, which further proves my last point.
I feel like relationships take incredibly mature people, not people who let emotions control them. I hate when my girlfriend tells me she loves me. I can't stand it. Like all chemicals, the effect will go away. Don't waste your life thinking it will last forever. You have to force yourself to be committed, and if you're not mature enough to put up with it, don't expect it to last.
Relationships are based on emotions. You are with someone because they make you happy. You don't need to control your emotions in a relationship. You need to express them. Your girlfriend telling you she loves you is something great. On the other hand, your pesimistic attitude that love will go away is not great for a relationship. You need to give 100% and have faith in you two as a couple and maybe your relationship will last for many years. In my opinion, it's worth trying even if you fail many times.
Sometimes it sucks being like this.. I've always said I was different (and compared to MOST people, I am different). Sometimes (aka never, just feel like saying it because I can) I wish I could just be like everyone else. You know, dumb, and a sheep. What an easy life that must be. Being like everyone else.
You should consider the fact that everyone is different. Even if they all wear the same clothes and listen to the same music deep inside they are different and with time you will notice. Secondly, being the same doesn't mean they are dumb. A high IQ congregation, or though being the same in many ways, technically they aren't dumb.
I don't change myself to fit in, I am myself. People like me because I don't care what people think. I call stupid people out. I'm random, and pretty hyper (not ADD annoying type of hyper). Somehow I fit in with everyone, by trying to fit in with no one. It's odd how that works out.
Maybe lots of other people are doing the same as you. Maybe you just don't know them well enough.
And now, to add the conceited icing to the conceited cake... I think if everyone had my mentality, my mindset, (not be me, but think more like me) the world would be a better place.
Contradiction and nazi like attitude. Previously you say how good it is to be yourself because it's dumb to be like everyone else and now you want everyone to be like you. Wouldn't that make us all dumb? This makes no sense and the fact you think the whole world should follow a certain ideology (yours) is scary if not an insult to humanity.
To clarify, I'm not self-centered. I'm probably one of the nicest people you will ever (assuming you met me) meet. But I'm very straight forward with people.
You have proven yourself wrong with your previous statement. You have a lot of egocentristm, which translates to self centered.
I'm 18, I'm a Prep, maybe that's why I'm "conceited." In the end, I think I'm right though, I think people are just stupid. Or maybe I just matured too fast, and now it's me who screwed up. Or maybe I just think I'm too mature (hah). Who knows.
In my opinion you aren't mature. A mature person doubts their own thoughts seriously at least once and certainly doesn't call the people around them stupid unless they know how they react in every situation possible.
I really want to know how many people agree with me though, and feel the same as me. Because I know I'm not alone.
Certainly. Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and Stalin where all like you.
