• Disk cases: We need improvement.

And then there's the cases normally used in TV series boxed sets where there's nothing to press down to ease the dvd coming out, and you have to almost bend the dvd at like 30 degrees and then it comes out.

I mean of course they won't withstand an ass falling on it, but it protects from the usual stuff like scratches, books being placed on them etc. I have a ton of those cases that hold my music.

I use this: It holds about 120 disks and keeps my stuff organized. But cases are really awesome.
Why do we care what type of packaging a program comes in? DVD cases are fine by me, they don't break as easily as jewel cases, and they don't waste space like the huge double DVD cases. However, the Bluray disk cases are a bit nicer, as they aren't as big, and are smaller in size than the "half-DVD cases". The reason most commercial cases are thick however is due to the company promoting or selling the disk needs room for promotional leaflets, as they are greedy and want to barrage you with advertising even after you've purchased their product.
seriously where did you get those if you don't need them you could ship a couple to my house :buddy: wait you're in england aren't you
I have them to send my dad's DVD's away, he is a wedding photographer and when people wan their pictures on CD or DVD they get them in one of those cases. Also i live in Scotland so if you livve in the USA i can't be bothered sending you one. [editline]06:48PM[/editline]
It made me sad seeing all those strewn about on the floor. I'm not sure why. :frown:
Originally i was making a tower out of them but after it fell over 3 times i was like "Fuck this" and just took a picture of them after they fell down.
Movie, game, and software manufacturers need to take a look at their neighbour, the music industry: Digipacks: Even cheaper digipacks: Bonus fun fact: The data surface of that disk is black too! They don't fuck up the disks, they're durable, and cheap as fuck to manufacture. (Metal record labels use them a lot because they don't have any money)
Fable did that, at least for the PC version I have.
who cares you got something to hold your case BE GRATEFUL
Up until a few years ago they used to put out those AOL trial CDs on supermarket counters for free. I used to take one or two at a time so I could use the case for my games.
I remember a game from long ago called Sheep, which I was addicted to like a mad man. One time, I wanted to play it again. However, I put too much force on the CD and it broke. My life drastically changed. :suicide:
The same thing happened to me but with a rental copy of Spyro 2 from Blockbuster :smith:
I vote we design a levitation device that magically floats CDs in the air so they never get scratched. :buddy:
Are they expensive? They look like they are.
not really. they're just a soft plastic case with 2 pieces of plastic for support and one piece for the ejector.
Speaking of shitty cases: What's missing from the above picture? :downs: Talk about a shitty case. Paper sleeve, paper everything except for a thin plastic piece that holds the disc in with ye olde jewel-case style clips. I hate the paper parts because they're already deteriorating like crazy, even though I hardly ever touch this case.
Don't forget, retailers generally prefer larger cases because they make it more difficult for people to steal them (at least in large quantities). I prefer the dual-size DVD cases that PC games come in; easy to find, difficult to damage, and plenty of room for manuals and other goodies.
These work fine for me, although they tend to slip around when stacked
http://filesmelt.com/dl/dickcase.jpg i love these [editline]01:47AM[/editline] i call it, the blob
everything will become digital over the next 10 years.
http://filesmelt.com/dl/dickcase.jpg i love these [editline]01:47AM[/editline] i call it, the blob
is that a fucking pancake
everything will become digital over the next 10 years.
Considering you can still buy vinyl records, that's a big negative
http://filesmelt.com/dl/dickcase.jpg i love these [editline]01:47AM[/editline] i call it, the blob
It's disk cases, not dick cases. I know c and s sound sorta the same sometimes...
I think Digipaks are slick.
So I just bought the Muppet Show, and guess how the discs are held in? These fuckers. They are just that design, on a backing of plastic. To get it out, you have to hold the corners of the case, as it's impossible to get the disc out if any solid object is behind it. So you have to push that in until it bends the plastic enough to release the disc. But, that's only for the outside two discs, there are two other discs in the centre, as I mentioned before, you have to bend the plastic to get the disc out, well these two centre ones are positioned like a Venn Diagram, so you get to bend the other disc as well, instead of just the plastic, but then also the plastic on this centre piece is thicker than the case, so you have to use even more force just to get out the disc. As well as all that, this one is broken, so the disc just jumps off and drifts happily around the case. I'm going to go watch Kermit the Frog sing now. Edit: Or watch him dance.
Only one like it I've ever seen. Glad I picked it up when I did.
If everything started shipping on USB drives (or something similar) that'd be :krad2:
don't hate on digipacks, digipacks are the best thing to happen to disc media imo
They probably would be if they didn't use bullshit paper construction and shitty extremely breakable retainer clips. I know it's more than possible to make something out of rubber that can securely hold a disc in place, or hell, even nylon, but acrylic's too damned brittle for that shit.
maybe you just shouldn't be a clumsy disoriented oaf when handling things
Or, we need to make the transition to solid state media and stop fiddling with optical storage.
This. Why are we using optical mediums when cheap high capacity memory cards abound? Just make it read-only. Also would load faster, and could skip to any part of the movie without delay. More robust than discs, which scratch easily. Memory is becoming smaller and cheaper, I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we stop using disks altogether in a few years.
