Yesterday I witnessed several people in my new gym wear a lifting belt. I can only guess it was more as an accessory, as they all had it hang loosely around their waist and only performed some shitty circuit exercises on machines (or bench press on the smith machine). If it weren't for our local Russians, I'd be the strongest guy in the gym in no time.
usually strongest guy in the gym crew. only time someone is stronger then me is either there a huge fatass manlet powerlifter fatfuck, or thats about it. Technically some people could probably beat me on squats but I no longer own a pair of knees.
stats bleach whats strong fer yer gym
well here at the local ymca, benching anything over 2 pl8s lol you know whats funny, for the most part my highschool class had stronger kids then most of the d1 football players at my school. One of my old teammates, who's going to be a junior now in college is benching 440lbs , the dude only weighs 210. i'm bout 240 in that pic, haven't been lifting much lately, can't squat for shit, can't even do body weight squats without my knee snapping up
what happened to your knees nigga
there are literal Olympians at my gym you guys have no clue...
If it weren't for our local Russians, I'd be the strongest guy in the gym in no time.
in my gym everyone is russian
what happened to your knees nigga
years of abuse and probably overtraining on squats. There was a point where I was squatting to a max about everyday, training like clarence kennedy who guess what, blew out both his knees. the icing on the cake was the plyometrics and sprints and running and shit I had to do in college. I'm already way overweight for my frame, my family doesn't have good knee genetics so that fucked me up even more.
Safe to say I've been making progress this past eight months. Yeah I'm in my undies, but I love my butt-huggers.
na, coffee doesnt even come close to pre workout. lets beef real tea for a moment
mix instant coffee powder/grounds with cola soda of some kind. I use pepsi max. el cheapo pre workout. Don't mix it like hyphy mud because that tastes like shit, instead i pour it in, let the foam come down, fill it up some more, foam down, fill it up some more. now you have 500mls of tasty packed with caffeine. for real fuckin cheap.
^used to do that for a while is actually really nice On the topic of knee's I'm starting to get regular pain in mine even just from sitting down and standing up, I blame texas method. But on the other hand my 5rm for deep squats has gone up by about 20kg in the last 3 months, I havent seen this kind of progress since I started out. [editline]19th August 2015[/editline] Also went to a class at an oly club yesterday, the coach seemed like he knew what he was doing, corrected some stuff with my snatch like my foot position and not pushing my knees out enough on the first pull. I think I'll join up, its €95 for 6 weeks of class, €60 joining fee, then €55 a month to train there.

Training is a nice thing and shit it's been eight months since january?
Gonna assume you were a bit overweight? For me since January I've gone from underweight to proper weight. Training is a nice thing and shit it's been eight months since january?
Not overweight, just shitty eating habits and very minimal training.
call me crazy but i think anything over 12% bf in a young male is "overweight" I think part of the problem is we have a warped idea of normal. Young men should be relatively lean without concerted effort. The situation presently where the average is a young man carrying considerable fat around the midsection is one part of the reason androgen levels are far lower than just a few generations ago.

lol at anybody who thinks people in the past were all ~ fuckin shredded ~ seriously, get real Roman legionaries were chubby as fuck, as were most fighters and athletes throughout history
It depends on your lifestyle and what you do day-to-day.
Yes and the average lifestyle in 2015 is one of over eating and under moving. One only needs to take a look at a picture from the average american beach in say, 1955, compared to now, to see the obvious. The average man is f-a-t. In older men, this is expected and even normal, in young men, love handles and a midsection lacking any definition whatsoever should not be considered "normal" [editline]19th August 2015[/editline]
lol at anybody who thinks people in the past were all ~ fuckin shredded ~ seriously, get real Roman legionaries were chubby as fuck, as were most fighters and athletes throughout history
I never said anything about being shredded, don't put words in my mouth. I said above 12%. 12% bf is much more than most people think it is. The average dude who thinks he's the fabled "10%" eyeballing it, is actually usually closer to 15%. 10% bf is very lean. And no, you won't find very many examples of chubby athletes. Fat activists like to use warped examples like the odd painting of a fat gladiator or Rubens famous paintings to justify their world view (conveniently ignoring the very word "rubenesque" was an oddity to describe women who resembled ruben's paintings, otherwise you wouldn't need a word for it because it would be normal. Ruben was chubby chaser and other paintings from this period reflect it). boy those old time athletes sure were chubby [editline]19th August 2015[/editline] fighters, lean and sinewy. Try to comprehend how many calories it would take to produce marked fat gain in a men who are not only spending most of their waking hours active, but also training and fighting. And its not like they could cruise down to maccas for an easy 3000 calorie feed [editline]19th August 2015[/editline]
poverty af lmao you drink that while u chill in your cardboard box
this might be ur best one yet lmfao
I think it's about time to post this [t]http://i.imgur.com/0CY9YaB.jpg[/t] so contrary to popular belief, half-squatting will actually fuck your knees over much more than a proper squat
I talked with an instructor today, he said once I start normal squats (I'm transitioning from goblet squats) I shouldn't squat below 90 degrees, or at least have a bench to limit the angle (which could be more than 90 degrees thinking about my levers) because of "safety reasons." Who do I listen to, the flesh and blood person in front of me or you potentially well informed strangers on the internet
I really don't know where that myth came from and why so many people buy into it ultimately it's your choice, but limiting your ROM will eventually impact your mobility, maybe to the point where you won't even be able to do a full squat at all which is kinda embarrassing tbh
Don't have to listen to anyone, read up studies and shit. Though that's what most of us here have done and came up with the same conclusion [editline]19th August 2015[/editline] Also remember that instructors can be very, very poorly informed. I know of some who don't even know what a low bar squat is
Personally, unless you're like, in your 40's and 50's, you don't need to worry that much about your knees exploding. You're in your 20's and in your prime, you're meant to take up some abuse.

So no, don't go crazy, you can build yourself without fucking up knees. I'd imagine taking steroids is safer than fucking your knees.
Just play it safe, I only squat once every five days, still get progress too.
What actually is it that goes bad in the knee? Tendons?
If I had a dollar for every kilo of weights people leave loaded on the barbells at the racks in my gym, I would have so much money that I would be more-attractive to chicks than any bodybuilder in the country. Plus I saw a new one today; someone taking a barbell out of the racks to deadlift and leaving it loaded on the floor without returning it to the rack.
What actually is it that goes bad in the knee? Tendons?
meniscus and ligaments both have very poor blood supply
theres an easy way to avoid blowing your knees out: stop trying to lift for ego. [editline]20th August 2015[/editline] ego is the biggest impediment to progress in any sport
I need to be careful more than most I think. I had Osteochondritis when I was younger (muscles and bone growing at different rates, causes inflammation of the joints) specifically my knees. I should have grown out of that by now (or hopefully stopped growing in general), but being so tall I think puts my joints under more stress Right now I'm squatting three times a week, but that's the only real leg exercise I'm doing. I'll do some reading and try and discuss with the head instructor when he turns up next week
