haha what
i'm a full-time uni student with a part-time job and am living in the dorms
still lift 4-5 times a week
i've just started at uni and going almost every day to the on-campus gym, was thinking of trying some of those protein powders but i'd like some professional advice from you guys first, which one should i buy for just muscle gain and bulking?
This amount of activity seems only possible (to me) when you're jobless and live with your parents.
The problem is the tradeoff of work, sleep, social life, and exercise. If you work a standard 9-5, then by the time you get home you'll have roughly 6 hours to dick around. Minus eating, cooking, you'd have about 4-4.5 hours left. Do you exercise with it? Or do you go hang out with your pals at the bar? Or do you play games because you've had a rough day and just need a night off?
This is probably why most people get fatter more easily than they think. A fixed routine can easily get to you.

depends on how many hours. Planning is essential.
how do you guys injure yourselves damn
the worst ive had was a mild case of tendonitis and it wasnt even because of lifting lel
fingers arent actually broken just got hyper extended, just about able to move them in full range of motion, hopefully theyll be fine in a few weeks.
gonna try deadlifts/ rows with straps tomorrow
Nah no supplements. The only thing I take in extraordinary doses is four cups of coffee per day. Should I or shouldn't I be taking vitamin B2?
If your piss is like a really eye catching bright yellow color its usually the metabolites of B2 and nothing to worry about.
If your piss is just regular yellow don't worry about it. People who tell you to drink like 10 liters of water a day are retarded. Over hydration is probably more common than dehydration, displacing minerals, sodium, potassium. There seems to be these pervasive myth in athletics that there is no such thing as too much water.

He's doing 4 hours worth of exercise a day though, that's not feasible for most people working and/or going to school.

Full time student at university, go out every weekend(Friday and Saturday) and get borderline blackout drunk, and have a relatively active social life. Also live with two loud ass retard roomates. Don't technically have a job though

I don't lift on weds usually, only practice for like 2 hours of throwing and some light running. Saturday I don't do chit and on sunday I lift hungover as fuck for like 1.5 hours
lol @ people who pretend they are so busy that anything more than 15 minutes of actual activity is impossible
the average person who whines about how busy they are spends easily 4+ hours playing video games, watching shit on TV or browsing the internet.
reminds me of my roommate who wonders why he's pretty overweight
brb everytime he says "im goin to the gym," goes for 10 minutes, comes back and buys weed and 2 boxes of Papa Johns + 3 bags of chips from the vending machine and spends the rest of the day playing NHL
and then i actually see him in the weight room. runs on the treadmill for like 5 minutes, does one of those isolation machines and like 10 pushups then leaves. just come on
[editline]d[/editline]
also i swear he farts every time he turns in bed
[editline]d[/editline]
the worst part though is when he says how he "hates the gym, but it's the only thing keeping me from getting fat" :boxhide:
People are fucking idiots. If staying healthy and taking care of your body isn't important to you then you need to get your shit together.
My one roomate is always talking about "hey man I gotta live my young life to the fullest" but is more miserable than possibly anyone I know because of all the stupid decisions he makes. Complete fucking idiot.
If I think Im starting to mess up my rotator cuff should I just cease overhead stuff for a while? Before itd just be a bit cracky after pullups but now theres this very slight sharp pain that comes and goes. I feel like this happened to me in the past and just staying off the shit that aggravated it helped. its had me a little worried though since from what ive read the type of pain im describing tends to be more serious. itll prolly be fine with rest but for anyone whose dealt with rotator cuff stuff, any advice you guys have about the onset of these problems would be welcome
[editline]7th October 2015[/editline]
i suppose doing those rotator cuff exercises might be the best course of action?

I have friends that bullshit themselves into thinking they can get that 'rave body' by doing half-canned workouts at the recreation center for one fucking month
The inner-demon in me wants to yell and berate at them.

Lol this generation will go down as the worst in modern history only because of a constant childish need for novelty, short term pleasure and a rampant self rationalization mechanism that prevents them from ever feeling guilty about doing dumb shit and changing their behavior accordingly.
I've met loads of people in their late 20s, early 30s who still act like high school kids. Part of it is our media fueled culture that sells people a lie that amassing material belongings and hedonistic behavior is the key to happiness, but its also a pathological lack of responsibility.
i said yolo tho, so everything is okay
What would you guys recommend as a good starter routine for a 3 times a week gym go-er?
I'm 5'10" and 200lbs(ish) so I want to focus mainly on weight loss for now, but at the same time I want to get started with lifting. My problem is I just tend to feel like I don't know what the fuck I'm doing which puts me off.

this
my roomate takes no responsibility for anything. The worst is when he's drunk or on uppers, it's like the reality of the world doesn't apply to him and he can do as he pleases without consequence. Now normally I wouldn't give a shit but I live with the idiot(bad move on my part). The other weekend he beat up some kid because he was on drugs, who guess what, is friends with my friends and now it's all one big mess.
I know for a fact I'm going to have to beat some sense into him. He doesn't clean up after himself, is constantly leaving the lights on or the door unlocked or his car light on or forgets to pay bills or some other shit and NEVER takes any steps to correct his actions despite me and my other roomate CONSTANTLY telling him.
/end rant

Compound lifts will burn more calories, and doing weights will tell your body to maintain muscle rather than fat (so hopefully you only lose fat). Keep it simple, do something like this each workout:
- bench press
- dumbbell rows
- overhead press
- pull-ups/lat pulldowns
- squats
5 compounds can be a lot, if it's too much do squats every workout and one push (bench/overhead) and one pull (rows/pull-ups) each workout. For each exercise aim for 8 reps for 3 sets, not including warm-up reps at a lower weight.

Fair enough. I guess I'm really shit at efficiently using my time, heh.
broke my ring and pinky fingers yesderday, cant do any pulls, how 2 train lats/do oly?
straps and cables for lats if you can manage
cable pullovers for example, great for lat isolation, can do without using fingers at all with a straight bar revolving attachment
might be able to manage seated rows too (with straps), idk man depends on the cast (if there is one)
Went into gym today, did a few squats the tried doing deadlifts. I was able to do 1pl8 with straps so i might try doing rows with it next week or pull overs as above. I'm getting a lot of ROM back in the past few days but my fingers are still sore and swollen.

no longer natty as you used straps
no longer natty as you used straps
only one thing to do now, might as well
I would never use them because forearm pumps are my favourite of all, but straps are a godsend when you start tearing calluses. Can hardly go without them for my working sets otherwise I risk ripping something apart
no longer natty as you used straps
Did he inject one protein also
i just eat my calluses
yum
I don't think there's a better feeling on earth than peeling your calluses
I don't think there's a better feeling on earth than peeling your calluses
Except for when the skin isn't dead and you end up trying to peel them off becoming your main workout, you could leave them but you got that slight rip in one so you're now obsessed with pulling them off. :S
I love it when my calluses aren't beginning to show any ripping or peeling, they look awesome
I don't think there's a better feeling on earth than peeling your calluses
I'm not the only one!
hate taking days off but feel like my head would explode if I even so much as thought of the valsalva manoeuvre lol

Basically it.
I love to follow the mantra of there is a difference between being alive and living, but the stupid people seem to think that difference is more about low risk comfort activities. They are ok with living wayyy out of balance, because it makes them happy, in that moment. Instead of a decent amount of fun time mixed with solid work time, and not just wasting time frequently on random bullshit, lots of kids with put too much time in to bullshitting around.
