Just started Stronglifts 5x5. I haven't been in a gym for more than 3 weeks. Does anyone have any experience with the program, any success stories?
So my cat fucked up the resistance band I was using for rows. Does anyone know where I can get a new one? Or if there is another exercise that does about the same thing. May have been doing it wrong as well as I was pulling at my waist across as if I wanted to hit something at the other side. I have another question, will taking drugs mess up my gains. The ones I'm wondering about are smoking, concerta, and pain killers. I already read up on alcohol and now I only do that on a saturday and don't drink past drunk. They don't affect my eating habits at all and I still eat healthy.
Girl pukes while deadlifting...and still fucking gets 3 pass lights for lift lmao Part of me was thinking "hey, maybe she was just nervous", but shit, that seems unlikely!
Her damn back is so curved in all of her deadlift vids. Idk how people even round that much without snapping their shit up.
Her damn back is so curved in all of her deadlift vids. More looks than brains, but I still admire her effort to some degree. I'm guessing she still isn't hitting the degree of curvature to hit a direct injury, and some people get away with it relatively fine. Plus I'm gonna take a wild guess and think that female flexibility comes in to play. But even still, it can't be ideal for her. After all, she barely sits and uses way more back than hips.

But yeah, it's a nice program. I like Starting Strength because it's 3x5, so there's less fatigue in later sets.
^^I've gotten a few people into lifting now and thats one of the problems I've found with linear progressions like stronglifts. Ideally if you've never lifted before you should spend your first 2-3 weeks training 3 - 5 days with just the bar doing loads of volume, practicing good technique and doing lots of stretching and foam rolling after. What are those little micro reps he's doing beforehand and after?
Damn, going hard enough to attract a crowd and everything.
What are those little micro reps he's doing beforehand and after?
According to him, that's his warmup. By doing tons of those tiny reps, he forces blood flow into his muscles, gets into the right rhythm, and ultimately prevents snapping his shit up with the heavy weight.

Jump roping seems to have a similar effect for my squats and Oly lifts. I immediately notice on my 2nd and 3rd sets of jump roping that the jumps feel smoother and easier, while my legs feel looser and more mobile. In short, warming up makes a very noticeable difference. Don't skip warming up you farks.
I'm getting pretty close to my goal now. currently sitting at 83.6kg / 184.3lbs (last Monday weigh in). odd to think I'll have lost 22.5kg in just 3.6kg, or it's more like 19kg since that's when I started but I'll just say 22.5kg since it's the bigger number. I'm thinking I'm a lot thinner than I actually look right now. I imagine there's a lot of excess skin considering I've lost as much as I have in just 4 months (hey 4 months today, woo). skin probably haven't had the time to keep up yet. not sure if what I'm writing is correct or not, but that's my assumption at least. is there an easy way to differentiate between fat and excess skin? does it feel different if you squeeze it or something? if my issue right now is excess skin, how would I go about "tightening" shit up? do I just wait, does the body gradually eat away the skin eventually? I think I may want to get the skin "skin-tight" before I decide to lose more weight than my initial goal, I don't want to end up losing too much.

The excess skin is there, but it's definitely shrunk. I think for most people, it either takes a really long amount of time, or you just get surgery to chop it off.
Once ur skins stretched ur fucked, lose the weight slowly or face the consequences.

I've only seen it and read stories about it when people have lost way more than I have but I can imagine it occurring for those who aren't obese as well, just far from as severe. I'm worried it might be a little hard to stop the weight loss if there's too much excess skin. I'll look fatter than I am so I'm going to feel more inclined towards losing more when what I should be doing is maybe gain muscle instead to fill the skin back up.

I'm not a dermatologist or anything, but anecdotally you'd probably want to just lose your weight down to a threshold and maintain it for a while. For instance, if you went from 100kg to 80kg in bodyweight, it seems logical to do high protein maintenance at that weight for a year or so. You'd be able to make good hypertrophy & strength gains, and you wouldn't feel too terrible about your skin either. Of course, this also depends on how much it affects you. If you plan on dropping 40kg in bodyweight, it'd be better to do it over 3-4 years rather than 1-1.5 years(I'm assuming you're in your early 20s and your skin elasticity is still up to par).
I lost 50kg and I had very little excess skin. I was a bit soft in certain parts but I wasn't actually flabby, you couldn't see shit with the naked eye, you just had to touch around my waist area to see that some places weren't as hard as others. Unless you're MORBIDLY obese too, any excess skin you will have shouldn't be stretched to the point where it can't go back to normal. [editline]22nd February 2016[/editline] Oh yeah I also lost that in 2 years. To be honest, excess skin shouldn't worry you.

I'll have to decide that again once 75kg is hit. the weight is really getting hard to shed now too. I feel like I'm doing a good job but looking at my the average calorie intake the past few weeks it looks like I'm cheating more than I should. it's not severely bad, far from maintenance, but it's not my calorie goal. I think it's still going down? I'm not too sure to be honest. I've been meaning to get back to the gym after soon being absent for 3 months, I think it'll really kick things back in gear. unfortunately I keep delaying it but I don't really have a excuse anymore.
Just remember weight loss slows down abit the lower you get, and not doing any exercise on the side doesn't make it easier either. TBH I would never cut without lifting, you're gonna lose muscle mass.
Hit 4 pl8 deadlift today, added 25kg to my deadlift in the last 10 weeks, lets see how long I can keep this up for.
Nothing like getting back to your original strength. KO'd 2 pl8's for 3*7 Squat
Got sick, dropped 15lbs. Just trying to get back to where I was, shit sucks.
Did legs yesterday, decided to just make it a day of hard powercleans 135x5 warmup, 185x5, then 225x3 for 8 sets. We movin up! After this I decided against what is probably correct that my legs weren't worked enough so I burned out with 225x20 squatting lol fuck legs hurt
225x25 reps for 3 sets fucking sucks, but dat quad pump.
225x25 reps for 3 sets fucking sucks, but dat quad pump.
why???

Unless you're on gear no Naturals get the most out of low volume heavy weight
